Desmond didn't need to point, because he could tell when everyone could see Altair. Kadar twisted his swing right around to look past Malik. Ezio’s head turned really fast, and he looked really hard at Altair, but the rest of him stayed really still. Desmond couldn’t see Malik’s face when he turned around, but he stood like his clothes were prickly and Altair didn’t look at him. Leonardo jumped up surprised, and then smiled so big that Desmond was sure he’d never seen anything like it.
"Altair? It is so good to meet you! I knew that Kadar and I could not be the only ones. How long have you been with Desmond? Do you go to school with him? Have you ever seen others like us?" Leonardo was standing in front of Altair so fast Desmond thought he saw a blur left behind on the swing.
"Hold on Leonardo, you know you should not bombard a new friend with so many questions. Did you not learn your lesson with Malik?" Ezio pulled Leonardo back a bit, and Desmond could tell that Altair was glad to have some space again.
"Ah, mi dispiace!" Leonardo cried out.
"What's that mean? Me dis-pee-atch-eh?" Desmond asked. Ezio didn't laugh at him, but he had that grown-up look that meant he wanted to. Leonardo only laughed a little, but Kadar laughed a lot, and Malik snickered too. Desmond stuck his tongue out at Kadar, and a little bit at Malik.
"An apology I think, though your accent is not so good Desmond." Altair answered and didn't laugh. Ezio stopped looking like he was grown-up not-laughing, which made Desmond happier, but he was looking at Altair really hard again, and that made Desmond feel a little funny. Malik was looking at Altair funny too, but he hid it better.
"I could get better. Leonardo, will you teach me?" Desmond asked. Leonardo looked embarrassed for a second, then excited as he nodded.
"Desmond, time to go!" Dad called from his bench, and Desmond could see that he'd already packed his briefcase which meant there'd be no 'five more minute's.
"We gotta go." He told Altair.
"We come here every Sunday morning. See if you can come next week." Malik said to Altair. Desmond waved to Kadar, Ezio and Leonardo, and smiled when they all waved back.
"We shall see what happens." Altair replied, walking with Desmond toward the street where Dad was waiting next to the car.
"Bye!" Desmond called, and ran over to Dad. He was tapping his foot, which meant no ice cream this time. Maybe next week.

There were times, during his long existence, that Altair wanted to kill everyone he saw. Times when the years stretched long and even his Vision couldn’t tell him who his enemies were. When he would hold his short sword in his left hand, his long sword in his right, and he would stand on a busy street corner contemplating how many of the oblivious pedestrians he could cut down before the first body hit the earth.
This was not one of those times.
“I dun wanna go to bed.” Desmond pouted and fiddled with a rip on his favorite pajamas.
“I don’t care what you want; I have an important meeting early tomorrow so you’re going to bed now.”
This was one of the times where Altair only wanted to kill one man.
“But it’s only six-so-clock. That’s too early, Dad.”
“Well I have to be up before four in the morning, so it’s not too early for me. Get into bed Desmond, or I’ll put you there myself.” William raised his hand, and Desmond cringed and scampered off into his room.
This was one of the times when Altair only wanted to kill one man; wanted to release his hidden blade, hold it to William Miles’ eye and push, but the moment the thought crossed his mind his body froze in place, and again he was denied what he wanted.
