No worries! Family can be difficult to navigate around.

But wow, 10 years! And I love how Connor's journey mirrors Haytham's. When it gets too much in New England and New York, head east. Also loving the Kill Bill vibe.

I guess the Templars probably aren't on the lookout for him much anymore. So he actually does have a chance to take Lee down.

No the Templars aren't looking for him, but they know he's out there and will be watching their backs once members turn up dead or missing.

Connor better make sure his only target is Charles Lee, then. :)

NON-FW - Shattered AU - Frostbite Epilogue 2/?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-01 06:35 am (UTC)(link)

"I knew you would come for me."

The Assassin did not respond as he warily watched his target. It had been rather easy to break into the man's apartment. He had been surprised that the man did not have any security guarding him despite his wealth and fame. Instead of a dozen body guards, there had only been a single maid.

"Thank you for sparing her," the Alpha glanced over to where the servant was bound and unconscious in the corner. "She had nothing to do with my affiliation to the Order."

"How did you know I was coming?" Connor inquired as he slowly circled the room, away from the windows.

"How could I not after our last encounter. You had threatened to kill me, before you....?" His prey smiled mirthlessly and shook his head. "I have been watching my back for the past ten years, knowing an Assassin would resurface and take my life."

"I do so for my brother."

"Who was also my wife."

Connor snarled at the man as turned on him, bringing his hidden blade to a pale throat.

"He was your prisoner! I was there when Lee gave him to you. I watched as you ripped him away from me." The Assassin struggled to take a deep calming breath, knowing that if he would alert the neighbors if he continued to shout. "I know what beasts you Templar Alphas are, and what you expect your wives to be in the marriage bed."

Sad and non-fearful eyes looked up at him.

"You are wrong."

Connor's eyes narrowed as he resisted the urge to slice the man's neck.

"I loved Clipper," the Templar lawyer spoke sorrowfully. "Over the months he lived with me, we had lived happily as husband and wife. Yes, I was to keep watch over him by order of Charles; but I did not force nor crowd him. I respected Clipper and gave him his space... and I knew... I knew that he loved me as well."

Connor felt himself tremble. It had to be a lie. Clipper would not develop feelings of affection for an enemy who enslaved him.

"Then why did he die?"

James Collins looked down, and proceeded to stroke his wedding ring.

"Clipper died... because he cherished you more."

The Assassin drew in a deep breath, and felt the chill of the air settle in his bones.

"Explain."

"I told you before, that I did not cage him, and he was allowed out of the apartment under supervision. He and I... we used to love taking a stroll around the neighborhood every afternoon after dinner. It was during these times, I learned a great deal about my wife, and would find myself falling in love with him every day."

James' lips fell into a small wistful smile as he closed his eyes.

"He used to tell me stories of his childhood out in the country, and I admired how brave he must have been to be an Omega, leaving his family to forge a life for himself alone. He told me how he met you, how he had admired you for saving young boys from being forced to enlist in the British army..."

Connor swallowed hard, looking away. Was... was it true then... had Clipper told this man all of that? Had Clipper actually fallen in love with one of their enemies?

"You were his idol, and he both admired and adored you. That was why he hated himself for leaving you behind in that prison. One day he..." James hesitated for a moment as he opened his eyes. "He came across some of the members of your crew."

Neither David nor Richard ever told him how they were able to find him. Connor had not questioned them about it either; having felt all too relieved to be liberated from that small cell.

"When I discovered he had been slipping notes to those sailors for several days, I confiscated and destroyed them before my brothers learned of their existence. But..." a choked sob, and James did not bother to wiped away the tears that streaked down his face. "Charles found out, and there was naught I could do to protect him. I failed my Order... I failed Clipper... I..."

"If your feelings are sincere, then I hope you are reunited with your wife."

James immediately fell silent as a blade sliced deep into his throat. His body crumpled forward, and lay half-upon the table he sat beside. Those saddened eyes stared unseeingly up at Connor, a cold impassive look on his face, as he reached out to close them.

"Goodbye Mister Collins."

And then he was gone.

So that's how they knew to come for Connor...Clipper didn't break his promise after all. He came for Connor, just...not as originally intended.

RIP James.

Yeah Clipper kept his promise and told the Aquila crew where to find Connor. Charles found out about it, and of course, killed Clipper and took his son right after he was born.

Clipper...

On the other hand, I am rather surprised Haytham let him take his grandson instead of raising him himself. This entire mess is Charles's fault, so I can't imagine he's too happy with him. I suppose he thought it would be too cruel to deprive the child of both parents.

A/N: Happy New Year! I think I might actually finish this miniseries today /crosses fingers/

The other Templar Inner Circle Members that fell to his blade were nowhere near compliant as James Collins had been. Doctor Mathew Davies had went to the trouble of hiring more body guards to protect him from the hunter who felled several notorious Templar agents in the area. But Connor had no trouble cutting them down, nor felt any remorse stepping over their cold corpses.

He moved as his leisure, as his prey stumbled about in a secluded alley way. The doctor's expensive clothing was caked in mud and other unsavory things, as he tried to scramble away from the imposing figure catching up to him. The old man was frantic, trembling fingers searching for ammunition for his empty pistol, only to end up dropping them onto the ground in fear.

"S...Stay back!" he shouted, not bothering to hide the terror upon his face before smacking right into the brick building in front of him. A dead end. Davies turned back, flinching at the dark cowl wearing figure that stood perfectly still and was blocking his path. "If... if you let me live, I will pay you any sum you desire!"

Connor's lips thinned.

"Unlike you and your predecessor, doctor, I have no desire for coins."

"Surely..." Davies' hands began clawing at the brick while as he forced a smile upon his terrified face.
"Surely, there must be something you must desire..."

"Indeed there is."

The corner of the Assassin's mouth curved upwards in a crooked half-smile, as ran the doctor through with his sword.

---

"Are you an eagle?"

Connor stared down from the tall tree he had been lounging in and met the wide inquisitive eyes of a young boy, who was straining out the window to get a better look at his reoccurring night time visitor.

"I have no wings," the Assassin pointed out with a small amused smile beneath his hood.

"I can see. I just thought you liked to hide them from people."

"Why did you think I am an eagle?"

"Well, you have eagle feathers on both your arms," the Alpha boy then pointed at the feathers beneath gus armbands, "and you live in trees."

"Ah... I see how you came to such a conclusion. But no, I am not an eagle. Though I wished to be one as a child. I am only a man who likes to climb and situate himself in high places."

The child looked disappointed as he stared enviously up at only friend.

"I wish I could climb like you do, but the servants won't let me; they're afraid I'll fall. Did you ever fall?"

"Oh quite often when I was still learning," Connor admitted with fond recollection. "But I never gave up. I was determined to see the land as a bird did... and it was well worth all the effort."

"Will you teach me how to climb then?" the boy asked hopefully. "I want to be able to be able to move through the trees just like you do."

The Assassin looked down, the hood obscuring his face for a moment of silence as he fondly caressed the icy cold trunk he was leaning against.

"Perhaps someday, when the weather is favorable," he answered finally. "You should go to bed now. It is very late and too much cold will make you ill."

The child pouted, reluctant, even as his smaller hands gripping the window to close it.

"But you're outside every night," he pointed out. "How are you not sick?"

"I am used to the cold."

"Have you no home to return to?"

His home...

Achilles' old manor, in ruins once again.
His people's land sold to pay off the debt in a war they had not been involved in.

Connor slowly shook his head.

"No... I have not."

A small mouth curved into a wide smile, temporarily banishing the sorrow that threatened to take a hold of him.

"You can live with me!" the little Alpha exclaimed. "There is plenty of room, and food, and the servants are very nice. I will have to ask father though, but I don't think he would mind..."

"Young master!"

The boy tensed, and turned towards the door where he saw the head maid in the door way. She stepped inside, holding out a candelabra to illuminate the bedroom. Suspicious eyes looked around before they settled on the lone Alpha who smiled guiltily back at her.

"Who were you talking to, Master Haytham?"

"Oh... no one, Mary, just a bird sitting outside."

"You were supposed to be in bed hours ago... never mind, please come away from the window. The last thing we want is for you to fall ill."

Prince Haytham Lee hesitated for a moment, before looking back outside. Those young amber-brown eyes flickered gold, and a smile appeared on his lips as he watched a streak of blue light fading into the distance. When his vision returned to normal, the small boy looked to his windowsill and saw a familiar eagle feather resting there.

He smiled.

"Goodnight, Ratonhnhaké:ton," he whispered before pocketing the token into his night clothes.

A short distance away, after avoiding the guards and their hounds that patrolled the area; the Assassin half-turned to face the large manor once more.

"Goodnight, riien:'a," Connor whispered back.

My son.

Yeah, Haytham took his grandson into consideration more than Charles wanting to raise his son. Charles probably would have died a brutal had he not rid the Templars of the Brotherhood and became the Commander-in-Chief.

OMG, loved this part so much! Little Haytham is so cute! And the air of wistfulness around Connor and his son...

I feel bad for poor little Haytham. He'll wind up losing his only parent, or losing all chance of knowing about his mother (unless Charles gets married, and then who knows how the stepmother will treat him). Poor little guy...

"In your haste to save the world, boy - take care you don't destroy it!"

Years ago, Connor did appreciate his mentor's last words to him when he stormed out of the manor to begin his hunt for those who brought about Washington's death. He had been arrogant and foolish; believing he alone could turn the tide of the secret war between the Assassins and Templars. Even if his aim had been true that day, it would have been too late.

The enemy was ruthless and cunning. They had predicted he would go after them as a lone wolf, and instead targeted his comrades before finally capturing him. Humiliated and violated him. It was painful to reflect back now, had he but listened to Achilles and formed a united front with his allies, the Brotherhood could have avoided such an end.

He would not make that same mistake this time.

"There you are."

Connor turned his head and regarded the tall lanky Alpha, covered in form fitting dark brown leather from head to toe, and a vicious looking hook protruding from his vambrace. The "Night Stalker" he had been infamously known as, a cold blood murderer who struck at night and instilled fear in the hearts of the people. He had been the scapegoat, that had blamed the deaths of such men as James Collins and Matthew Davies on.

The intimidating figure towered over the Master Assassin. One single visible eye fixated itself on Connor, as a hand raised... and placed over his heart in utmost respect.

"Mentor."

When Connor had returned to America nearly a year ago, he had thought to continue his crusade against the Templars alone. But after nearly having a fatal run in trying to take down a Templar Commander; the Omega knew he would only be repeating mistakes that had lead him to ruin.

So, he took the time to lick his wounds and recruit talented members into a new Colonial Brotherhood. A stronger Brotherhood. One that would remain resilient and strong without him.

"You need no longer call me that, Joe. You have earned your the title of Master and will be the leader of this Brotherhood. Please call me by my name."

Joe, as many Templars came to know and fear him as, met his gaze again before lowering the bandana he wear to obscure most of his face.

"Connor..." the Alpha spoke. "Your recruits have assembled and await your arrival."

"What of Thomas Jefferson?"

"He will be riding from New York with his followers to join us." Joe's quirked upwards a little in amusement. "Though I suspect he will be here sooner than anticipated once learning that you are here."

"Joe..."

"And it wouldn't hurt if you were more hospitable to him, mentor."

Connor rolled his eyes as both Master Assassins face the newcomer who scaled up the building to join them.

"Speaking on his behalf again, Caleb?"

"Just saying... it wouldn't kill you to give the poor fellow a chance."

No, it would not kill him.

Not him.

Connor looked away immediately as he dawned his hood.

"Enough. I do not wish to give him hope where there is none. Now, let us go."

Without waiting a response from his Assassins, Connor swan dived off the roof.

He had another revolution to ignite.

A/N: So... is this the longest epilogue ever?

Thomas Jefferson! I'm glad to see he's alright, out of this entire mess. And got the hots for Connor. :)

I'm impressed that Connor trained up a new Brotherhood in only a year. It seems he has learned caution. With his allies, it looks very possible for him to unseat the Templars. I wonder what will happen to his poor son in the upheaval...

I know you didn't play TOKW, but Jefferson was pretty awesome. So naturally he would be Connor's ally here as well. The other assassins are once again multiplayer characters, and Joe was probably one of the most feared (next to Connor I'm guessing).

NON-FW - Shattered AU - Frostbite Epilogue 5/?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-02 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Connor did not know if he would ever to be able to wipe away the stain that tarnished George Washington's name indefinitely; but today was a start. Today, as the people rebelled against their elected King, they also began to question the lies that the Templars had woven over the former Commander's honor. Not only that, he had finally been able to avenge the man he had loved.

"Well... ain't you a sight," Thomas Hickey drawled from where he lay on the filthy wet ground. He stared up at the Assassin who had at last landed the mortal blow upon him. "Nevah would 'ave expected you to come back."

"But of course I would. If not for me, then for the innocent man you murdered."

He crouched down beside the dying Templar who sneered back at him while clutching his profusely bleeding wound.

"Washington was far from innocent, Connah," Hickey rasped. "You blamed us for burnin' down your village all those years ago. But the truth is, boy, the real scoundrel was dear ol Georgie."

"I know."

Dull blue eyes stared at him, confused.

"I know and I have forgiven him," Connor then glared down at the dying man. "It is you and yours I will never forgive."

"An' who wants your forgiveness?!" Hickey spat at him before shaking his head. "If you think I'm gonna break down in guilt, then think again. You see, I don' regret nothin'."

Those harsh blue eyes were sincere as they locked onto his one last time.

"I 'ad everything' I always wanted... you...your hands will always be empty..."

Connor's expression was impassive as he reached out and closed the dead man's eyes.

---

"How come you don't visit as much?"

The Assassin glance down at the small dark head - sleek black locks that was darker than his own hair - as it was scrutinizing the board game laid out between them.

"Forgive me, Haytham, but my work inside the city has kept me busy."

Amber-brown eyes glanced up at him fondly.

"That's what my father says. He's been busy an awful lot lately. I... I don't think the people like him much anymore..." the boy's tone softened as his brows knit in confusion. "Which I don't understand, Ratonhnhaké:ton. Father's subjects, they liked him before, that's why they elected him."

Connor sighed, momentarily eyeing the boy's locked bedroom door, even though he knew the servants' schedule fairly well now. They would not check in on their young master for at least half an hour or so.

"People and their opinions change over time. When the war ended, the people of a new nation elected your father to help fix their problems for them. It did not work out as they expected and the conditions are no different than they were before the British ruled this country."

"But father is trying really hard!" Haytham protested. "He's a good king! If they would only give him more time..."

The Omega felt his chest tighten at how strongly the little boy - his little boy - defended Charles Lee; but his demeanor remained stoic and composed.

"Time is a lot to ask for when your family is sick and starving."

He watched as his son winced, perhaps feeling guilty of feeding the dogs his vegetables as he often did. His expression softened, and he reached down to thread his hair in those raven tresses. Haytham glanced back up at him, startled, but did not pull away.

"Change is not necessarily a bad thing, Haytham. The people only wish to govern themselves and create laws that will protect them."

The little prince considered this for a moment, looking thoughtful. "Then my father won't be king anymore, and the people will no longer hate or blame him."

Connor bit the inside of his cheek and started speaking before he could stop himself.

"You must love your father very much...."

Haytham Lee looked stunned by that statement but only nodded his head with a smile.

"Yes. Father is the best, and we'll always be together."

The Assassin lowered his head, the long dark hood obscured his face as he stared as his clenched hands. This was unfair... this was completely unfair.

"Ratonhnhaké:ton?" A small hand reached out and touched his own. "Are you alright?"

He raised his gaze up to meet his son's concerned face. Bile rose up in his throat as he was forced to lie to his little son, his flesh and blood.

"I am fine.." Connor took a deep and steady breath before gesturing to the game of Farona they had been playing. "Now, enough stalling, Haytham, it's time to make your move."

His son ducked his head, drawing his hand away from Connor's grasp. The boy couldn't help looking sheepish as he studied the board again, fingers hesitantly hovered over one of his pieces.

"Ratonhnhaké:ton?"

"Yes?"

"We'll always be together to, right?"

Warmth filled Connor's eyes, and he quickly closed them before any tears could escape.

"I will always be with you."

NON-FW - Shattered AU - Frostbite Epilogue 6/?

A/N: I do not know why I call this an epilogue, it's probably going to be just as long as the story before it.

"You should have not returned."

Connor stopped abruptly in his tracks on his way back to his horse after leaving the Lee manor. His shoulders tensed at the sound of that familiar condescending voice he came to know well during his imprisonment. The Master Assassin quickly spun around; just in time to avoid the fist aimed at his face.

His assailant, a large heavy set Alpha, tried again but Connor was ready for him. Moving with effortless grace, he dodged a few furious swipes before catching a muscular arm. Pivoting, he hurled the burly man headfirst into a large tree.

Before he could finish him off though, Connor spotted two more enemies rushing towards him. They were not like the man who attacked him before. They were faster and more agile; attacking the Assassin simultaneously and keeping him on his toes.

But all three enemies fought bare-handed, meaning they wanted to take him alive. A familiar cold chill ran down his spine. No... he would rather die than be taken prisoner again!

The Assassin immediately unsheathed his hidden blades. He allow one of the pair to strike him once so that he could grab a hold of the man shoulder, and stab him quickly in the chest. He promptly leapt onto the last man standing, and did not hold himself back piercing the man's flesh again, and again, and again.

He then rolled off the still warm corpse, and was climbing to his feet when something sharp struck him in the arm. The Omega grimaced to see the shaft of a dart sticking out of his limb which immediately started to go numb. Panic seized his heart; realizing that he has been poisoned. With one hard yank, he ripped out, before staggering to the direction of his horse where he had medicine vials counteract the...

"Aren't you forgetting something?"

Damn...

Connor had nearly forgotten that the owner of that voice had been standing back as a casual observer who rushed at him. He only heard the flutter of a cloak, before doubling over as a large fist drove its way into his stomach. Another blow to his back, hand him on his knees, wheezing in pain.

"Not... much of a homecoming, father," he muttered as the numbness from his arm began to spread through out his body.

The Templar Grandmaster chose that moment to enter his line of sight.

"I see you discovered a sense of humor living abroad," Haytham Kenway mused. "Do not worry. You were only injected with a sleeping agent, and it should wear off in a few hours."

He would have felt relief at his father's words, had he not been terrified where he would wake up. As his breathing started to slow and eyelids began to feel heavy; Connor knew he had to do something quickly. But what? He wondered as the Templar slowly approached him.

Without thinking, he activated the pivot mechanism of his hidden blade, and held the dagger to his face.

His father tensed.

"Connor, what are you doing?"

He winced as the steel pierced the skin centimeters above the corner of his upper lip, before it dragged down, leaving a bloody trail in its wake.

The stinging pain seemed to fight off the numbness for a time, as was able to avoid the outstretched hand that was trying to restrain him. Connor caught hold of that arm, before stabbing into it. The Grandmaster yelled in pain, and Connor used his enemy's brief disorientation to bring him to the ground.

"You should have taken my offer, son," his father's voice sounded distant despite the fact that Connor had moved above him, pinning the Templar to the ground. "You would not have to live as a fugitive and be but a stranger to your own child."

Connor shook his head.

"It would be trading one form of a slavery with another. Being just be a whore by another name. Death would be preferable than going through all that again. But not until I rid this country of your poisonous influence with my own hands."

His empty hands... Hickey's voice seemed to remind him.

"And what of your son, who is an innocent in all of this?" his father calmly inquired from where he lay still beneath the enemy who held a blade over his face. "You would leave him alone, without family, and at the mercy of men who hate his father?"

Connor shook his head.

"My son will never be alone," he vowed.

The Assassin retracted his blade. Then, with all the strength he could muster, brought down his fist; effectively knocking the Templar unconscious.

With his strength leaving him, Connor rolled off his father's unconscious body. He tried to put as much distance between himself and the bodies. Crawling on the ground, the Assassin could not get very far as he was rapidly losing the battle to stay awake.

Connor took a deep breath, and took a chance. The Assassin whistled sharply, spitting blood into the dirt as he did so. Moments before he lost consciousness, he felt the tremor of horse hooves pounding onto the ground, and could only hope that it was his own and not one of the patrols around King's land.

I couldn't bring myself to kill Haytham, he was probably the only Templar IC member who actually showed Connor respect wile he was imprisoned. Also, Connor's hatred for him lessened considerably after learning that he hadn't ordered the burning of his village, and of course Charles was acting on his own.
