Re: NON-FW - Shattered AU - Frostbite - Apple of Eden (alt. end ) 32

The songbird metaphor is really getting to me. Poor Connor will end up like that songbird...

Thanks, I think you inspired the idea in one of your previous chapters and comments of Connor having flown the coop with broken wings and then breaking them again as he beats at his cage.

I wonder if Charles will find that his music isn't so beautiful when the real songbird has already died?

/cries/ and all he has left is an empty husk. Though I wonder, if the real Connor fades away, I wonder if puppet!Connor will be cold and lifeless to everyone who isn't Charles.

I think inner! Haytham is thinking about decapitating both Charles and Davies at this point, though less Davies. He knows it's Charles that's the impetus for all this. :)

Heh, I love pissed-off-protective-daddy!Haytham. Curious though, is he trapped in his mind and watching the outside world like Connor? Then again he doesn't possess Connor's shield (that will eventually crack upon meeting Juno), so would he spend the first half hour of his freedom recalling all the things he's done that week?

No dream had such details, no dream had such vivid description. His children would conquer the world, through military force and through diplomatic alliance. No nation would be too far for them, and, who knew...?

LOL, Charles Lee Britannia already plans to expand his kingdom into an empire. Though already imagine their first daughter, if she's like the Alpha Charles dreamed of, would be very Cornelia-like.

Also, love the sweetness in this chapter, especially the mention of Charles wanting Connor to be more selfish (like him) and showering him with gifts, love and affection - but of course, will never give Connor the freedom he truly desires.

Though I wonder, if the real Connor fades away, I wonder if puppet!Connor will be cold and lifeless to everyone who isn't Charles.

Does his capacity for love and understanding come from real! Connor? Or does everything of him come from real! Connor? What will happen to puppet! Connor when real! Connor's not there anymore?

The ultimate question. Is puppet! Connor slowly becoming real and independent...or is he still simply a mask that Charles has created to suit himself, drawing upon the experience and personality of the real! Connor? Can he survive? Will he become Marianne the Flash in her cold practical logic and willingness to sacrifice everything? Or will he become nothing at all?

so would he spend the first half hour of his freedom recalling all the things he's done that week?

Connor probably has the cleanest break. For most victims, I imagine that the Apple melds their real minds. In effect, they'd be horrified by their actions but not truly understand that it wasn't their actions.

Haytham would probably be somewhere in between, not quite separated as Connor is, not quite completely unaware of the Apple's influence.

Yes! Just like Cornelia! :)

Cornelia was awesome, other than her racist streak.

You know, I just realized how well that works. Charles Lee Britannia. Genius!

So then would Haytham be Schneizel? And the Omega son Lelouch? So the Omega daughter would be Euphemia or Nunnally, more Euphemia than Nunnally, though, I think!

The thing about Charles is that he thinks he's generous. But if he's denying the one thing that Connor really wants...that's not real generosity at all. It's dark and patronizing and ultimately fatal. Charles has no one but himself to blame for anything that happens.

Re: Companion Piece to Apple of Eden (32)

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 04:06 am (UTC)(link)

Heh, I picture lil!Haytham might be a lot like Schneizel and Grandpa!Haytham, the Cornelia-like sister will definitely have Charles' temper and maybe his sadistic streak, the second son I totally picture as Omega!Lelouch who takes after Connor in his way of just being a kickass Omega, and the last daughter will be the most pampered and spoiled one of the bunch - kind of picture her more to be like Elizabeth Midford from Black Butler manga, who is cute and doll-like but lethal with swords:

cute:

Damn, the Lee royal family storyline sounds really interesting now. Imagine Charles getting sucked up into the Apple and it showing the daily lives of his children in the future.

Oooh Marianne!Connor <- that sounds weird, but I kind of like the idea of puppet!Connor becoming more than just a mask as Connor's true self fades away. Imagine him actually refusing Charles sex for indulging too much and not taking care of his responsibilities as a King.

Re: Companion Piece to Apple of Eden (32)

We could even name the younger daughter Elizabeth! Unfortunately, Lelouch wouldn't work (French-base or sounds like it) and Cornelia wouldn't work either (German-base).

Perhaps, for the eldest daughter, Victoria? Or maybe Boadicea?

No idea for the younger son.

Maybe the Apple will show Charles something... :)

Hmm...So Charles, instead of creating the perfect partner for him, ended up creating the perfect Queen. Beloved and feared, the crown above all.

That would be scary, indeed!

Re: Companion Piece to Apple of Eden (32)

(Anonymous) 2014-02-04 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Heehee, Elizabeth would be cute as the youngest then. Victoria could also work for the older sister, and as for the youngest son... maybe John after Charles' father? Or Ronald after Charles' head manservant?

Next part is almost done

NON-FW - Shattered AU - Frostbite - Apple of Eden (alt. end ) 33

Connor was extremely grateful to his beloved for leaving him in the care of such wonderful servants. Though, he had felt apprehensive at first. The Omega was not sure he felt comfortable with other hands that did not belong to Charles or a doctor, upon his body. However, these Omegas were very respectful and attentive to his needs.

First, they helped him wash up, because he refused to let his son see him looking and smelling the way he was. They did not even appear disgusted by the amount of seed that had dried upon his thighs (he would have to remember to apologize for breaking that glass plug his Alpha had commissioned for him), and applied salve to his bruises.

The young maid, Shirley, even suggested a little dusting of power for the bruise on his nose and quickly fetched more ice to reduce the swelling on his lip. A tall manservant named Will, held him as if he were a breakable porcelain doll, carrying him from and then back to the bed (even though Connor could walk) after a short bath. Finally the oldest of the three, Emma, who had been overseeing her subordinates finally stepped forward with a gentle smile upon her face as she helped him dress.

Though he was grateful to both Will and Shirley, he quickly took a liking to her first. Miss Emma had been the first to speak, telling him what an honor it was to serve her long-time master's betrothed, as she had served the Lee household nearly all her life and that they had been very eager to meet the Omega who had captured Charles' heart.

Connor could not help but smile at that. Even though he remained mute, she seemed to know what was on his mind. While gently combing the wet tangles from his hair, Emma told him stories of Haytham as a very young child.

She spoke of how much he adored playing with the animals outside the Lee manor. Not just the Pomeranians, but the horses, bunnies, cats, and chickens as well. He had even heard tale that his little son had adopted a turkey and named it Yusuf, and with some tears, had his new friend pardoned from being the main course of Thanksgiving dinner that year.

Connor's shoulders shook in laughter he could not express, but only threw Emma a grateful smile and silently urged her to go on. She was half-way through a story of Charles catching Haytham sneak in another stray kitten, when those two Alphas arrived. The servants bowed before the King and crown-prince, before backing away as they approached the bed.

The Omega fidgeted nervously, hoping he at least looked presentable.

"Mother!"

Haytham could not restrain himself any longer as he ran over to the bed, his arms outstretched... he stopped abruptly when Charles barked at him, and whimpered.

Connor gave his husband a look of disapproval but quickly felt guilty. After all, Charles was only concerned for his wellbeing. He made a mental note to himself, to apologize for this as well as the broken plug.

With a warm smile, he reached for his son.

Those smaller hands slipped into his own, and he gave the little knuckles a gentle rub with his thumbs. The Omega could help but wonder when these hands would outgrow his, and small his own would look against them. He hoped his Haytham would grow up strong like the boy's father and grandfather.

"Mother, a-are you all right?" his son asked him, those amber-brown eyes widening when they fixated themselves on the gash upon Connor's mouth.

Remembering that he could not speak, the Omega merely nodded.

"D-Does it still hurt?"

He shook his head, before giving Haytham another reassuring smile.

Connor glanced over at his husband-to-be for a moment, wondering how he had explained things to their son. He hoped that Charles did not mention his father's sudden act of violence. The last thing Connor wanted, was to make Haytham afraid of the Grandfather he loved so very much.

His eyes then turned back to the boy who began sniffling. Oh, dear. If his son was anything like his father, he was already blaming himself for not being a strong Alpha to protect the Omega he cared for.

Wanting to divert his son's undeserved guilt and grief, his eyes strayed over to the bedside table where the quill and parchment were. Reacting quickly, Emma immediately fetched them for him. Quickly, he scribbled a question down upon the paper and showed it to his son.

Tell me about Yusuf

Haytham stared as he read it, sniffled one last time, before smiling. Patting the empty spaces of the bed around him, Connor gestured for his two Alphas to join him. Charles moved and sat down beside him, while gently weaving those large arms carefully about him.

Their son was hesitant at first, worried about hurting his mother. Charles had to assure him that it would be all right, so long as Haytham did not hug him about the waist. Seeing that it was all right and that Connor was tapping at the parchment with faux impatience, the little boy finally gave in with a laugh.

"I was wondering at what the dogs were barking at when I finally saw him, the largest bird I had ever seen in my life..." Haytham began.

Connor listened with rapt attention, hiding his smirk when Charles groaned out loud over the meeting between their son and this turkey named Yusuf. Although he could not speak and tell his son stories at bedtime like he wanted to; having his son tell him one instead, was just as wonderful.

A/N: Couldn't help but write more family fluff. Also, more manga references as Emma and Will (short for William) are characters by Kaoru Mori's "Emma" a historical romance manga and Shirley is from the same author's other mini-series (that was sadly never finished, wrrrry.)

Also, yeah brought back the Assassin!Turkey Yusuf - but named by lil!Haytham, cause not sure what happened to the people and animals on the Homestead when the Templars had attacked.

Fill: absence makes the heart grow fonder

These two really aren't that easy to write fluff for!
This fill is also available on AO3 if you prefer to read it there. (http://archiveofourown.org/works/1168659)

Hope this was sufficiently fluffy for you, OP!

He’d been gone longer than usual this time, Haytham thought, frowning as he stared idly through his window at the night sky.

Connor had embarked on another of his naval endeavours aboard The Aquila; missions that usually took no longer than a week. This time his period of absence was nearing a month.

It wasn’t that he missed the foolish boy, Haytham assured himself. It was more that he... Haytham paused, searching for an excuse that wasn’t there.  He scowled.

Fine. It was possible he was a bit worried. Connor seemed to have an aptitude for getting involved in all sorts of trouble – trouble that he was not always capable of escaping through his own abilities Haytham thought, the memory of his son with a noose around his neck flashing through his mind.

He blanched. Surely Connor wasn’t... dead?

The thought made him grit his teeth. Why should he care if the assassin was dead? By all accounts he meant to kill him himself, when the time came.

Despite his thoughts, Haytham couldn’t resist asking the harbourmaster about sailing conditions the next day when he happened to pass by.

“Aye, it’s been poor weather at that,” the weathered man replied. “Don’t envy any poor bugger trying to raise sail these past few weeks, they’re surely at the bottom of the ocean by now.”

Haytham thanked him, continuing on his way and trying not to panic. Surely Connor had more sense than to try and sail through a storm? Or if he did not, surely his first mate Faulkner did.

The thought distracted him from his work that day, and several more days beyond that. His men quickly learned to give him a wide berth those days as they found him in a foul temper whenever they gave their reports.

Another week passed, and then another and no word of the half-native assassin ever reached his ears. Anger turned to regret, then cold acceptance.

Connor was gone.

There was a collective sigh of relief from captain and crew as The Aquila glided into port at New York.

Against all odds, they’d made it home.

The exhausted crew were filled with new energy as they efficiently prepared The Aquila to be docked at the harbour. Connor smiled as Mr Faulker delightedly shook his hand and promised he’d take care of the full damage report and repairs. Thanking him, Connor disembarked, allowing himself a sigh of relief as his feet hit solid ground.

The mission had only been meant to clear one of several trade routes but a fierce storm had blown them way off course – and caused some significance damage to their beloved ship – forcing them to take shelter further south until the waters were calm again.

It was good to be home. He was eager to see his father again.

He set off in the direction of Haytham’s estate, hoping the older man would be as happy to see him. The thought made him pause. He knew he’d been away for a long time, longer than he could ever have predicted.

Connor hoped Haytham hadn’t feared the worst.

He grimaced, but began walking again. He’d have to face him eventually.

Having been let into the house by a startled member of Haytham’s house staff, Connor waited patiently as she knocked on the study door.

“Yes?” Haytham’s voice was as imperious as ever, but he sounded weary Connor thought with a stab of unexpected guilt. The servant eyed Connor, unsure of how to announce him.

“Connor,” he offered.

“Connor’s here to see you, sir,” the servant repeated obediently, opening the door wider.

Haytham laughed mirthlessly. “Very well, send him in then.”

The servant ushered Connor through, silently closing the door behind herself to give them some privacy.

Connor stood quite still by the door, hands clasped in front of himself. He was nervous, he realised, staring at the floor. So much time had passed since they had seen each other; was he still welcome here?

A shocked intake of breath surprised him into looking up. Haytham was standing behind his desk, expression disbelieving.

“Are you real?” he demanded.

Connor smiled hesitantly. “Yes,” he replied simply.

He didn’t move, rooted to the spot by Haytham’s intense gaze as he circled his desk and approached him.  Silence fell over the pair as Haytham simply stared as though trying to convince himself that Connor was really there.

Slowly he raised a hand as though he was going to stroke Connor’s cheek. Realising, his hand dropped back to his side and he scowled.

“Where have you been?”

“I am sorry, father. There was no way to send you word.” Connor began to explain what had befallen The Aquila and had just reached the part where they had docked at a southern port in the tropics when he was interrupted mid-sentence by Haytham stepping closer with a frustrated growl and kissing him.

Haytham made no effort to try and disguise his desperation, but instead let it consume him. Connor did not resist as his tongue invaded his mouth, taking, tasting. His arms wrapped around Connor in a possessive grip, keeping him close. The kiss became sharp and punishing, his teeth closing on Connor’s bottom lip.

They pulled away for air, Haytham taking a moment to admire Connor’s swollen lips and flushed cheeks. “Next time, send word,” he commanded harshly, pushing him towards a wall.

“I will,” Connor agreed breathlessly, gasping as his back collided with the solid surface.

“Hmm,” Haytham eyed him speculatively, then stiffened in surprise as Connor reached forward and dragged him closer, initiating a hungry kiss of his own.

That was enough to set Haytham off again and he crushed Connor against the wall with his body, wanting to feel more of him. Taking advantage of Connor’s pinned state, he took the time to ravish his mouth as if trying to consume him, to possess him and keep him close.

Eventually the fury left Haytham and he seemed content to simply hold Connor to himself, trembling slightly.

That night after they’d undressed for bed, Haytham pulled Connor down onto the mattress and hovered over him as though committing the image of him to memory.

“I must confess I feared the worst,” Haytham murmured quietly. He paused, chuckling slightly. “I never thought I would say it but I am glad to see you safe.”

Connor snorted, pushing lightly at Haytham’s shoulder. “Getting soft, father.” He sobered. “I am sorry for making you worry.”

Haytham smiled wryly, bending down to press a soft kiss to Connor’s lips. It was unusual for Connor to be kissed so tenderly – Haytham seemed to prefer rough efficiency, like with most things – and it touched him with a strange intensity that made his heart swell with unexpected affection.

Moving down a bit, Haytham began to map out the planes of Connor’s body with gentle kisses, starting at his throat and moving down his chest to his hips. He seemed to make a study of him, making note of each scar and scratch scattered across his bronze skin.

Apparently satisfied that Connor still had all his limbs intact, Haytham moved back to his side and reached down for the blankets. As his hand gripped the thick fabric, a strong arm curled around his waist and tugged him back down next to Connor, blanket and all.

Somewhat bemused, Haytham nonetheless did not resist as Connor held him close, nestling in against his chest. Instead he pulled the blanket over the top of them both before enfolding Connor within the circle of his own arms.

Connor made a small pleased noise, eyes closing of their own accord. Now that he was lying down it occurred to him how tired he was, his body wracked with exhaustion from his long journey.

Feeling warm and safe, Connor was asleep within moments, his even breaths dancing along Haytham’s bare skin.

Haytham pulled back so he could look at him, a warm smile pulling at his lips as he gazed upon the peaceful countenance of his son.

“I suppose I must hold some degree of fondness for you after all,” he whispered, pressing a kiss to the boy’s brow.

Connor barely stirred, so Haytham pulled him close again, his eyes drifting closed as he surrendered to sleep himself.

Companion Piece to Apple of Eden (33)

(Anonymous) 2014-02-05 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Fair warning. Completely drunk tonight, so not really sure how coherent I'll be.

Poisoned Apple 33

Charles left to retrieve his son as soon as he had given instructions for his Omega to be cleaned and pampered.

It would be difficult enough explaining to his son what had happened to his mother. He didn't also need to explain the dried flaky substance on his thighs or the smell of musk about him.

Nonetheless, Charles stalled as soon as he stepped before Haytham's room. His son had not been pleased with them that morning with his toothless excuse, and he doubted the boy's mood had improved. While Charles did not usually bend to the temper of his son, he was acutely aware that the fault lay with him this time.

He was the one who kept the child from his mother.

And so, it was with trepidation that Charles knocked on his son's door.

"Go away."

Charles frowned.

"You would not say so if you knew what I have to say."

"Are you planning on breaking your promise again and stealing mother away?"

Charles winced.

"I did not steal your mother away, Haytham."

Purposefully.

Really, he hadn't meant to fall asleep.

"You promised mother would tell me a story. And then I'm told that you were keeping him for something special..." Charles pinked at that. "You liar!"

"Haytham..." Charles cajoled. "It was truly an accident. Your mother was tired, and we fell asleep together. That was it."

Well, not exactly, but Haytham didn't need to know that.

Heaven knew what that boy would get up to if he had any inkling of the affairs between Alphas and Omegas, and sometimes men and women.

A frowning head peeked out of the door.

"Did mother ask for me?"

A part of Charles felt indignant that the Omega seemed to be the only person on Haytham's mind these days.

It was Charles who had raised him, and Charles who had been by him his entire life. The other part of Charles reminded himself that he was also the reason it was this way, and that it was natural that Haytham longed for his missing parent.

Really, was it any different than what Haytham himself felt for his Omega?

"Yes, Haytham," Charles nodded. "Your mother asked for you, and I thought it best. We are a family, and it was wrong of us to fall asleep without you."

To his immense relief, the small body bounded of the room and hugged him.

"Thank you, Father," the little Alpha murmured into Charles' chest. "I've only just met mother, and I want to spend as much time with the two of you as possible. Please forgive me."

Charles hugged him back.

"Haytham, there is nothing to forgive. We aren't in competition to spend time with your mother...and it would do my heart good for you two to have a close relationship to one another."

Indeed, it would. It was another tie from Connor to him, another fetter he may use to bind his pretty Omega.

"Come," he whispered. "Let us go now to see your mother."

"Yes Father."

They walked down the hallways together, but as they neared the quarters Charles had installed his Omega, his little boy broke into a sudden run.

"Mother!" the little Alpha cried.

"Haytham!" Charles reprimanded.

His little Alpha stopped immediately, eyes abashed in shame. But while Charles felt badly, he did not regret his action. His Omega was still recovering from a near fatal attack. What was a little harshness to his Connor's health?

Charles immediately felt abashed when his Omega looked at him in reproach before opening his arms to their son.

"Mother, are you all right?" his son asked his Omega. Charles felt terrible when tiny hands reached up to the gash on his Omega's mouth.

His son was probably wondering where he was when all this happened. His son was probably wondering why his father failed to protect his mother.

Charles wondered that himself.

His Omega nodded shyly, and his son continued his questions.

"Does it still hurt?"

A brief shake of the head at this, and Charles wondered if his Omega truly felt better or only felt the need to act so in front of their son.

Charles knew of his Omega's self-sacrificing nature. Charles would never have had the leverage on him to pressure him to become his bed-warmer if he didn't fear for his comrade.

If his Connor didn't return the loyalty of his subordinate, then Charles would have had to kill them both a long time ago.

Things would have been very different.

No Haytham and no Connor.

The joy of his life...would never have existed.

Lost in his thoughts, Charles only just noticed that his Omega had not answered, instead looking to him.

A sniffle, and they both turned to their son, who looked worriedly at his mother.

Ah, the boy must be scared with how hurt his mother looked.

How to soothe him and relax his fears?

While Charles was thinking, his Connor had written something. Next Charles knew, his son was smiling.

His Omega was a natural. Pity that he had managed to escape so long ago, or Charles could have tamed him to his household and his touch much earlier.

The little boy hopped next to his mother on the bed and, one hand around his mother's waist, began to speak.

"I was wondering at what the dogs were barking at when I finally saw him, the largest bird I had ever seen in my life..."

Charles blinked.

Were they speaking of that blasted turkey? The one that nearly pecked Charles' poor Pomerians to baldness?

A curse on the day they met, for Charles could not think of a way to rid himself of that vile pest. If it wasn't eating him out of grain and pantry, it was chasing around his beloved dogs or causing havoc in his household.

Mary had declared the thing a menace, though Charles thought that Ronald was secretly fond of it, wretched thing that it was.

"I was afraid at first, but he seemed tame enough. He followed me around and helped me escape from trouble--"

"--only after he caused the trouble first," Charles muttered.

Both mother and son ignored him.

"And then what?" His Omega asked.

"Then, he always stuck by me. Even when Father did not approve, he helped me and ate the vegetables I didn't like--"

"--What?!"

So, in addition to creating a mess of his household, that blasted bird stole his son's food?

"Father doesn't like him," Haytham whispered loudly to his mother.

Charles twitched.

"I see your father doesn't like much," his Connor teased.

"I do not," Charles confirmed. "Only certain entrancing Omegas and little mischievous Alphas--"

"--and Grandpa!" Haytham cried.

Charles hesitated.

"Yes," he agreed. "And your Grandfather."

His Omega gave him a sad look.

"And after we went on a few adventures by the river, and Yusuf fished me out when I fell in looking for the crabs, we became best friends..."

Dear Lord. Did no one disabuse the child of that notion yet?

A human child could not be best friends with a turkey. Especially not one that grated on Charles' nerves as much as this one did.

It was...unseemly.

"You sound as if you had a lot of fun," his Omega murmured.

"We did! Yusuf loves to chase people around, and he had a mean streak of humor. Our tricks were the best, and he had the best ideas."

Fantastic. Charles was beginning to suspect that his constantly mismatched and missing socks might be due to a terrifying duo he had not conceived of.

"And that's not all! There was this one time when we borrowed some food to feed all the stray animals in Boston and--"

And listening to the story, Charles was reminded, once again, how much his family, his son, was so important to him.

----

They listened to stories all through the night. Haytham eventually fell asleep near dawn, and his Omega sprawled around his son, arms tightly wrapped around the small form he had been parted so long for.

Charles laid there next to them, awake. He simply stared at two of the most important people in the world to him and felt...

Warm.

He felt warm.

Carefully, he wrapped his arms around their sleeping forms and laid his head against his Omega's shoulder, even as one hand softly brushed the hair on his son's head.

His family was complete.

Oh, Emma! Never saw that, but have been meaning to. What's your take on it?

Your Haytham is TOO CUTE! //hugs// I just want to pinch his cheeks and hug him and never let go...

Awww fluffy goodness. I love that Yusuf still has his mischievous and protective streak, and OMG the pranks sound amusing, especially when Charles mentions his mismatched socks.

If you like slice-of-life historical romance dramas, I think you'll like Emma. I enjoyed both the anime and the manga - though haven't watched the drama yet.

NON-FW - Shattered AU - Frostbite - Apple of Eden (alt. end ) 34

With Haytham and Charles, the stories go on for hours until a few hours before dawn when the young Alpha can no longer stop himself from nodding off. Gently, Connor wraps his arms around the small body of his son. He hopes his Alpha does not mind too much about postponing their nightly activities to make up for leaving their son alone the other night. The Omega does not have a chance to apologize, without realizing it, Connor falls asleep right after.

----

He dreams of his son's birthday party. Not the previous one that he had spied on many months ago, but one that might take place in the future. It was sunny and warm outside, where Haytham and his friends played, while the adults mingled in doors. The group of Alphas are discussing business and politics, while the Omegas chatter on about stories of their children and silly gossip.

Although he is welcomed by both social circles, Connor politely excuses himself from the guests and heads outside, where he sits in a comfortable chair underneath the shade. He smiles serenely as he watches his son - who is a little older and no longer so shy - play with his friends, both human and animal alike. Their joyous laughter fills the air, and it warms him much as the son's rays do.

Connor smiles as his bright eyes lock onto his own. Immediately the little boy is running towards him, joined by a large turkey and a small Pomeranian pup on either side. His son rushes forward excitedly, says something about winning a game, while he smiles back fondly.

One of Haytham's little friends calls out to the birthday boy, and with a gentle nudge, Connor urges his son to go play. Haytham turns to go, but not before giving him a kiss on the cheek and a short caress upon his mother's swollen belly. Already, his little son was a protective older brother.

As Haytham leaves to join his friends in a game of hide and seek, Connor sighs in content as large arms slide around him. He smiles as he feels gentle kisses rain down upon him. The Omega chuckles, reminding his husband that there were children present, but Charles does not cease until he kisses him fully upon the lips.

Such a sweet dream... but one Connor hoped would be real someday.

----

It was a bit disheartening to wake up alone, but it could not be helped as it was already past mid-morning. Miss Emma had explained, as he ate his breakfast, that the King had to attend court (the Omega wondered if many were displeased with Charles' lack of attendance) while Haytham had his lessons.

Connor spent the long hours of solitude, reading in bed. He had been intrigued when Shirley had mentioned a library, and asked if she would select a few books for him. Under Achilles' tutelage, the young Omega became an avid reader and devoured books whenever he had the time. Reading provided a good distraction, especially during his heat, when he had been too inexperienced and ashamed of pleasuring himself near others.

But upon Shirley's third trip back, he suddenly felt guilty. It had taken her some time to find a text that he had asked for, as the teenage Omega girl admitted that she wasn't knowledgeable when it came to literature and could barely read herself. Connor also remembered that the young maid most likely had other duties to attend to, and he was most likely holding her up.

Perhaps it was best if he went to this library himself. There, he could read what he wanted and as much as he wanted, without being a burden to anyone. Besides... it was not as if he were confined to the bedroom, and some walking around would do his body some good.

After a light dinner, he changed into some decent attire, before heading towards the library Shirley spoke of. It took some time to get to his destination, for his legs had felt a little stiff at first, and would not carry him as fast as he wanted. Also, he did not know his way around the palace and had gotten lost (as well as a few curious looks from the servants) a few times.

Eventually, he arrived at the library which had taken him longer than he would have liked. But his annoyance with himself was short-lived, as the Omega marveled at the tall book shelves that lined the walls.

Oh, he could definitely spend a few hours or even the whole day in here. After selecting a few titles from the shelves that he had remembered reading back at the Davenport Homestead, that is exactly what he did.

----

Connor was not sure when he drifted off, but the sofa was so comfortable, and the sunlight that filtered in through the high windows were just too warm. He could have slept there for several more hours, had it not been the murmur of voices in the room. Suddenly, his Assassin training took hold of him, and Connor was immediately awake before opening his eyes.

"I must commend you and General Binns on your success, Nicholas..."

The Omega relaxed upon recognizing the familiar voice of his husband-to-be. His eyes slowly fluttered open to see a group of men standing about. They had apparently had entered from a secret passage, that was closed when one of the book-shelves swung back to its place against the wall.

How interesting... the secret door reminded Connor very much of the one back at the old manor.

"We were lucky to catch the enemy unaware," Admiral Biddle began to explain. "If it wasn't for our new recruits here, we would have lost more than just a few men in the operation."

The Templar Spy Master made a gesture towards three proud looking individuals, that suddenly made Connor sit up in interest. His eyes focused on Doctor Benjamin Franklin for a moment, then towards Fillian McCarthy and Emily Burke. It was strange seeing them wearing guard uniforms, but stranger still when all three bowed reverently to Charles before being dismissed.

"That is a relief to know," Charles commented, "my Omega will be most pleased with the news once I tell him."

Connor perked at this, as he sat up upon the sofa.

"Tell me what?"

Poisoned Apple 34

When Charles awoke the next morning, he swiftly disentangled himself from his slumbering Omega and tiptoed his way to the door. Once there, he quietly called for a palace servant and ordered that strong black tea be brought to him with his breakfast.

Binns and Biddle were already waiting for him at the breakfast table, though Charles did not bid them a good morn until after he had several cups of strong and potent tea.

"Late night?" Biddle waggled his eyebrows at him.

"Shut it you insufferable man," Charles grumbled.

He wasn't quite awake yet, but he will be. Just a few more cups...

"You know, coffee is much stronger and would actually rouse you enough so that we can discuss strategy," Binns chimed in.

Charles made a face.

He was a tea man. Coffee was vile.

"I wager even coffee might not be enough. If I had an Omega as toothsome as his, you'd need to serve me barrels of the stuff before I could string a coherent sentence together."

"Do keep your lecherous thoughts to yourself, my good Alpha. Some of us would rather not have debauchery on our thoughts so early in the morning."

"Just because you are far past your prime and wouldn't know a pretty Omega if it shimmied naked onto your lap--"

"Really Nicholas! This is hardly the time for such talk. And I would mind how you refer to Charles' fiance. Just because he's not quite awake yet does not mean he won't remember this when he is."

"Quite right," Charles drawled. He licked the last drop of tea from his lips and watched in satisfaction as Biddle paled.

"Now then, today we are to eliminate the Assassin threat and, potentially, gain a few...recruits."

Charles smiled a shark's smile.

"General Binns, are your men ready?"

"They have gathered near the locations we were told, in plainclothes as ordered. They are ready for the ambush."

Good.

Charles turned to Biddle.

"Admiral," he barked. "Have you blocked off all routes of escape? I want no one from England or that wretched France to catch wind of this until it is complete. We must consolidate our power here and crush all opposition before anyone is any the wiser."

Biddle sobered immediately at the question.

"The inspectors are working double-time stalling anyone trying to leave, sir. We came up with a story about counterfeit goods to justify the extra searches and lengthened inspection time. Franklin reported that they had not been planning to leave for near another fortnight so they ought not suspect anything."

Excellent.

"And the new...recruits?"

"They have volunteered to come along. Franklin will stay in the back, of course, as the man is old and feeble. But we will need his help with a few of the gadgets he has constructed for us."

"Gadgets?" Charles asked.

"The smoke-bombs that he copied off the Assassins," Binns clarified.

"Ah of course."

"They have been tested as well as we were able to in so short a time, and they are reliable as far as we are able to discern."

"And the other two will be joining in the attack, I assume?"

Binns nodded.

"Yes, they proved very skilled, especially the Omega sharpshooter."

Binns shook his head.

"To see a female Omega so skilled in the art of warfare...I admit I am very surprised."

Charles frowned.

"You do not think she will be a liability?"

Binns shook his head.

"The opposite. I would like some of the Alpha boys to train with her after all this is over."

Charles hid a smile behind his cup.

It looked like his Omega was just as talented as ever in attracting skilled assets and helping them reach their full potential, much like his father before him.

"What of the roles they will be in?"

Binns nodded and drew ought a scroll. With a flick of his wrist, he opened the roll of paper and held it down on the table to be viewed.

It was a map of the Assassin's hideout, as drawn by their newest recruits.

"The lady sharpshooter has been outfitted with sleeping darts. She will target as many Assassins in the room as possible provided they are located here, here and here."

The Alpha pointed to several locations on the map.

"These are open to targeting from long distance, and she will take care of any Assassins that lie in those areas. The remaining Assassins will likely run until they can recoup. The boy knows all of the escape routes, and he will lead a team to block the primary one, while Admiral Biddle and I each head a team to cover the others."

The older Alpha's hand trailed along several corridors.

"Each team has three separate marksmen, outfitted with smoke-bombs and sleeping darts. We also laced all our weapons with nerve poison and the like. We should be able to capture all the Assassins, alive."

Charles nodded.

"I will be at court, as usual, but send me word as soon as you arrive back. Take a scout with you to send me word if anything goes awry. It is not so far away that I cannot come with reinforcements."

"God permitting, that will be unnecessary," Binns murmured.

"We must also have contingencies in case our plan does not work out," Charles cautioned.

"Of course."

Charles nodded.

"Then, godspeed."

They stood up to leave. Right as Biddle was about to walk out the door, Charles called out to him.

"We will need to have a talk," he said mildly, "about how your eyes continue to linger upon my bride."

He smiled when Biddle rushed out in a hurry.

----

Charles shifted uncomfortably upon his throne, waiting for news--any news--to reach him.

Had the operation gone as it ought to have? Were the backups necessary? Did any of the Assassins escape and should Charles expect a future attack on his family, on his bride?

It was all Charles could do to remain seated on the throne, and the hours felt like molasses to him, slow and sticky and nearly unmoving.

So when he saw the scout ran towards him, out of breath, he leapt off his throne and called for an early end. Ignoring the angry mumbling, he grabbed the out-of-breath Alpha and demanded the story.

"Operation success," the man gasped.

Oh thank the Lord.

Charles felt the tension leave his body, and he could have just melted into the floor.

"My Lords await you, Your Majesty," the man gasped.

"Good, my man," Charles nodded. He dropped a gold piece into the scout's hand. "For a task well done."

And then he ran off towards the holding rooms in the hidden dungeons, his hand already reaching for the Apple at his waist.

He could not wait to eliminate his threat.

Perhaps he would even allow the captives to greet their old mentor...after they were converted, of course. It would be a present to his Connor, an appreciation for how good the Omega had been to him.

He did so like delighting his bride.

----

The Assassins were awake when he walked up to their cells, and they were not happy.

"You dog," the wounded hook-handed one spat.

Charles merely lifted an eyebrow at that.

"Weak," he declared. "My bride is much better at insulting me--are you sure you are one of his students?"

The man looked as if he wanted to lunge at him, but his comrades held him back, pointing out his injury and how they were still behind bars.

Ah, pragmatism. Charles could definitely use some of that in his forces.

"And what do you know of our mentor?" another cried. "He'll never be yours!"

"Oh?" Charles murmured in nonchalance. "And why might that be?"

"He's run off already," the hook-handed Alpha declared.

Charles snorted. So it seemed they did not yet know their mentor was already in Charles' grasp. How...cute...that they were trying to bluff!

"Really?"

"Yes."

"How very odd. I was just enjoying him last night--"

Cries of outrage fill the room.

"--and he seems so taken with having me inside of him. I truly cannot fathom why he would ever consider running."

"Monster!" The hook-handed Alpha spat.

"You may think that for now," Charles mocked.

His wounded enemy stiffened.

"So it wasn't my imagination," the Alpha murmured.

Another Assassin shook her head and sobbed. "Fillian...Emily...What did you do to them?"

Charles smirked. "They are more enlightened now than they have ever been. And they are happening serving my bride, just in a different way than they used to."

"They are Assassins!" The hook-handed Alpha cried. "They serve no one, only aid and help each other as brothers ought!"

"Well, now they have learned to serve. As you will."

Another one of the Assassins threw herself at the bars.

"What did you do to them? What did you do to Connor?!"

Charles smiled.

It wasn't a nice smile.

He slowly held the Apple up for them to see.

"They are mine. He is mine. And you, too, shall be mine."

With a single thought, bright golden light flared...and Charles took hold of all the rich potential his bride had trained.

Afterwards, when the former Assassins had each sworn loyalty to Charles, and Charles had assigned them tasks or, with the hook-handed Alpha, sent to the infirmary, Charles went to the back room to speak with Binns and Biddle.

He found the two Alphas with the new recruits and Franklin.

Excellent. They could all debrief.

"A most excellent performance gentleman," he congratulated the two Alphas.

"Thank you," Binns murmured.

Biddle still looked to be avoiding his gaze as much as possible.

Ah, so the Alpha could learn.

Good.

Perhaps he'd learn some decorum around Charles' Omega.

Charles nodded towards the exit to the library.

"Walk with me, gentlemen," he commanded.

"So..." Charles began as they ascended the stairs, "how many did we lose?"

"Three," Binns said sadly.

Charles raised a brow at that.

"So few?"

"Yes," the other Alpha nodded. "The Assassins managed to evade some of my men, and that made things harder than we'd anticipated. However, we did succeed in our goals, and no Assassin escaped. According to our new recruits, they are all accounted for."

Ah, good.

"I also received news from the docks," Biddle muttered. "We captured the contacts of the Assassins and felled the entire Assassin network. They are being brought in as we speak, but my men tell me that they are just merchants and seamen, for the most part."

"Network?"

This was troubling.

Biddle nodded.

"Aye, it was how the Assassins had been planning on falling back to France. One of those contacts was supposed to spirit your Omega away."

Charles' lips thinned in anger at that thought.

"But they are all captured now. My men noticed suspicious activity when they were playing out the ruse of counterfeit goods, and we have caught them all."

This was good news.

This was great news!

It was even enough for Charles to forgive Biddle his earlier statements.

Barely.

"Then I must commend you and General Binns on your success, Nicholas."

Biddle pinked.

"We were lucky to catch the enemy unaware. If it wasn't for the new recruits, we would have lost more than just a few men in the operation."

Charles turned to regard his earlier acquisitions, who stood proudly at attention.

Truly, most excellent acquisitions.

"That is a relief to know. My Omega will be most pleased with the news once I tell him."

"Tell me what?"

And Charles whirled around to see his lovely Omega lounged on the sofa right at the hidden entrance to the library.

"My dear," Charles said only just managing to hide the sheer surprise in his voice. "I was truly not expecting you here."

His Connor smiled, amber eyes molten in the orange light of the setting sun.

"Well, then," the Omega stood up and languidly wrapped his arms around Charles' shoulders. "I should surprise you more often."

And he laid a deep kiss onto Charles' lips.

"Oh yes," Charles murmured when they separated. "You should."

Oh yay, the raid! Much plotting ahead. :)

I do love that little bit at the end. Connor loves to turn up in unexpected places and keeps Charles on his toes!

WOW! Brilliant writing as always (never get tired of jealous Charles and Biddle just salivating over Connor), it looks like Charles' plan is coming together as he used his new pawns to infiltrate and help his men take down the Brotherhood unaware with few casualties. So now the Templars have dangerous new living weapons, as well as Franklin, and will soon have Connor's assets added to their treasury (and if he's anything like his Grandpa, he'll have a fleet of his own transporting goods for him)... the Templars could someday in the near future start invading and taking over other lands.

A/N: More poorly written porn ahead

Connor was not sure when he drifted off, but the sofa was so comfortable, and the sunlight that filtered in through the high windows were just too warm. He could have slept there for several more hours, had it not been the murmur of voices in the room. Suddenly, his Assassin training took hold of him, and Connor was immediately awake before opening his eyes.

----------------------------

Connor felt a little guilty as his Alpha quickly dismissed his subordinates so that they could clear the library, and give the soon to be wedded couple some privacy. But the guilt faded as Charles bolted the doors closed, before walking up and sweeping him off his feet. He chuckled softly in amusement, clinging to Charles, before hungry lips gently pressed against his in a deep kiss.

"You are in an exceptionally good mood today," he commented after catching his breath.

His husband-to-be only smiled, as he gingerly sat them down back onto the sofa. Connor leaned against a broad shoulder, his fingers playing with the buttons that line the front of Charles' coat.

"I have reason to be, my dear, for I have the most wonderful news to share with you."

"Oh?"

"You brothers, like you have seen reason at last. They no longer wish to oppose the Order, and most important, our union."

Connor shifted a little in Charles' lap, staring into the man's hesitant blue eyes.

"That is wonderful news!" he enthusiastically agreed with a wide smile. "They will no longer have to live like fugitives..."

His Alpha kissed him again.

"Not only that," Charles added, "But they have sworn their allegiances to me. From now on, they will work with the Order as well as protect our family."

Connor's heart swelled when he heard that. His friends were alive, and have been pardoned by his extremely-generous fiancé. Not only that, but they would be close by, and he would be able to speak with his brother-in-arms once more. Who knew, perhaps in the future, they would fight alongside each other again.

"Oh, my love, you spoil me so," he murmured while planting soft kisses against the Alpha's cheek. "Having my friends close by, and seeing my people and announcing our engagement, why I can think of no better wedding present."

He trailed his lips back to Charles' mouth and kissed him hard, ignoring the sting of pain from the gash upon his lips. "If there is anything you desire, that I can provide, you need only ask."

Though the Omega was not sure what else he could offer. He had already planned on giving his husband the fortune he had amassed from his many treasure hunting exploits. In a few days, they would leave for his village, and he would speak on the King's behalf to his people regarding the crystal apple.

As he tried to rack his brain, thinking of what else he could provide... Charles gently grasped his chin, tilting his head up so that they were looking into each other's eyes.

"What I desire, my dearest Connor, is having all of you. I wish for you to by my wife, and the mother of my children. I want you to be a Queen at my side, and my deadliest blade within the Templar Order."

The Omega smiled at that, as he gently took Charles' larger hand between his own. He stared at his beloved's ring finger, that was adorned by band of silver with crimson cross emblazoned upon it. It had been the mark of his mortal enemies once... but he could no longer think of his husband, father, and even their colleagues in such a way.

Connor closed his eyes, lowering his head, as he placed a gentle kiss upon the ring and felt its owner stiffen beneath him.

"Then I shall give you all of me," he murmured. "I will be your blade, to wield as you see fit. I will stand by your side and support you as your Queen. As your wife, I will give you as many children you desire... my love and loyalty, I eagerly give it all to you, my husband, my King."

Connor then opened his eyes and smiled at his beloved's stunned face. After an whole minute of awkward silence, he wondered if Charles was in his own world again. The Alpha was lost in thought, and completely forgetting that this was perhaps the very last day of Connor's heat.

Glancing at the clock nearby, they still had a few hours before meeting Haytham for supper. Plenty of time to enjoy a round or more, before they had to clean up. Then afterwards, they could retire to bed, and continue until dawn...

Connor moaned, he was getting hard thinking about it!

Large hands cupped his face, and drew him close for a deep kiss. A tongue slid hungrily pass his lips and licked at the roof of his mouth, causing the Omega to moan and grind himself upon the lap he was seated upon. When they broke away, panting heavily, Charles was already unfastening the buttons upon Connor's shirt.

"Tell me why you made such an alluring sound...." his Alpha demanded breathlessly.

His breath hitched when he felt fingers lightly play at one of his nipples. Teasing the little bud, and rolling it between warm digits.

"Ah..." he breathed, before realizing he had been asked question. "I was just thinking... that we should not let my last day of heat go to waste. You could take me here and now a few times... before we had to clean up and spend time with our son, and then later tonight we could do more...or you're too tired, you could watch me play with those toys..."

The hand upon his chest fell away. Connor trailed off for a moment and saw the ravenous look in those blue eyes and the restrain upon his lover's handsome face.

"My love?"

"I would love to do all those and more," Charles admitted. "But I do not wish to hurt you or add to your injuries."

He smiled. So very caring and thoughtful, his Alpha. Connor leaned forward to kiss him again.

"Then we shall be careful. My throat is feeling better, and it does not hurt anymore when I speak, but I will be mindful not to strain it so much. Besides I am an Assassin... I was an Assassin," he quickly amended when those blue eyes narrowed. "My injuries are minor compared to what I have faced before."

Charles still looked hesitant.

With a sigh Connor gingerly climbed down from his lap. He heard his lover make a grunt of disapproval, and playfully dodged the arm that made to drag him back. He grinned over at his Alpha, while pulling off his boots, then leisurely slid his trousers off and kicked them to the side. He pretended not to hear Charles growl, as he sauntered over to a table, and hoisted himself upon it.

His beloved had already leapt to his feet, when he looked back at him. The Omega smirked playfully, and crook his index finger in a "come here" motion to beckon his now eager lover forward. But just when Charles was close enough, he crossed his legs.

"You little tease..."

Connor chuckled as he reached out with his leg, to catch hold of the discarded trousers between his toes, and lifted the garment up.

"Guilty...but at least I came prepared."

He pulled out a small bottle of oil from one of the pockets and smiled at the surprise look upon Charles' face.

"The servants you have look after me, are most thoughtful," he informed the older man while liberally coating his fingers. Oh - the oil warmed rather quickly between upon his skin when rubbing his digits together, and it smelled rather fragrant. How lovely!

With a deep breath, he slowly uncrossed his legs, and brought his hand between them. His eyes locked onto Charles' and he shivered when his fingers found their mark, and slowly rubbed at the small hole there. His muscles twitched, but as he relaxed, they eagerly swallowed his index finger up to the knuckle.

"My love, are you watching?" he moaned softly, spreading his legs further apart as he pushed the rest of his index finger inside of him. His inner walls parted reluctantly as they clamped upon the digit, but were displeased that it was not the cock they so desperately wanted to milk.

A hot mouth presses against his own, smothering his next moan. His eyes meet Charles' for a moment, before lowering themselves as the Alpha took the bottle of oil from him, and was now applying the lubricant to his rigid cock. A large slick finger, slides beneath the hand between his legs, and gently prods at his stretched and occupied hole.

"I want to put mine in as well," he hears Charles breathe huskily into his ear.

Connor feels his own hard cock, twitch in response, and readily gives his consent.

Slowly but surely, his passage is widened. Charles' index finger slides up against his own, the soft pads of their digits were sliding each other despite Connor's muscles clenching down upon them. Such arousing sensations, especially with the oil that was warming him up from the inside, and it was such torture to keep from crying out loud!

But somehow he had managed, mostly out of fear that Charles would have second thoughts and decide to end their coupling here. So Connor focused on breathing as he rocked as the digits inside him began to pick up speed, as they stretched and distributed oil within his clenching passage. Finally it became too much, and his body demanded more than just fingers.

"Husband," he whispered softly to the man who would soon be that to him. "Please... make me your right now."

It looks like this mini-series is drawing to an end soon... ):

Poisoned Apple 35

Charles had not intended to take Connor that night. He kept Davies warnings in his mind and had wanted to give his Omega a rest.

His Omega had other ideas.

"Please..."

Charles breathed heavily as the Omega swallowed his finger in one smooth glide.

His Connor was so responsive, so sensitive...

"Please..."

Charles' finger met the Omega's own within that heated channel.

It was so tempting, despite Davies' warning of pain and injury. So very, very tempting.

"Husband," his Omega begged. "Please, make me yours. Right now."

Charles swallowed thickly.

He ought to say no. He ought to push his Omega away and allow him to heal...

He had never been good at resisting temptation. And he had always been especially bad at resisting this particular temptation.

"As you wish," he murmured, drawing the Omega close.

As he pulled the man down onto him, seated him onto his cock, he could only rejoice in what a splendid turn his future had taken.

Omega, children, the annihilation of his enemy...

He had succeeded in all he sought to do.

And once they made the trip to the village of his Omega's people, his legacy would be secure.

Nothing would steal his happiness.

----

Their trip began early the next day, just he, Master Kenway, his Omega and a platoon of troops. His little Haytham had wondered where they were going, but Charles would not consider bringing his son and said only that they had business to look after.

It wasn't a complete lie. It was business, and Charles would bring the boy with them next time, after he took care of any and all risks. While both his mentor and his bride were capable of protecting themselves and the soldiers were paid to risk their lives, Haytham was different.

He was only a boy, albeit extremely talented for his age. He would be ready in a few years, but not now.

His Omega leaned into him, a silken waterfall of hair resting against Charles' shoulder, and he smiled fondly at the man.

"Tired, my sweet?"

His Omega yawned.

"I am afraid you have tired me out with last night's activities. I confess that I do not have as much stamina as when you saw me last."

Ah yes. When his bride was still young, and Charles had brought him to his first sexual experience.

"And yet," Charles whispered, "you have aged well, like a rare and fine wine. This decade apart has brought a temperance to your character and sweet inflections to your taste."

The dark head abruptly turned to regard him.

"Master," the man cried. "I am still in my childbearing years!"

"Indeed." Charles laid a hand against his Omega's belly. "And I hope to sow many a seed in your fertile womb."

The Omega blushed.

"Master..."

"Really Charles," Master Kenway coughed from behind them. "I would think that this is hardly the time to put on a show for your soldiers."

Right. They were in public.

Charles coughed and removed his hand from his Connor's body.

"My apologies, Master Kenway. I am distracted."

"So it would appear. But I hope you plan to marry my son soon. It would sooner not have another grandchild born out of wedlock. It would behoove you to set an example for the citizenry."

Charles winced and saw his Omega blush deeply in mortification.

"We will wed," Charles stated, "directly after we return. I have already set the cooks to prepare the wedding feast."

"Good."

Master Kenway hesitated then.

"And...is he?"

"Pardon?"

"Is he pregnant?"

Charles' eyes bulged, and he saw his Omega curl protectively around his belly where he sat.

"Master Kenway! I--"

"Your servants will not cease wondering at your inability to even stay away from my son for a single half day."

That was...probably true.

"The court is aflutter with gossip about how you are entranced by his beauty and charms. That his body must be like a siren because you cannot tear yourself from his side."

Master Kenway's lips thinned into a displeased frown, and Connor huddled even further into his seat.

"They do not know of his relation to me, or they would not have regaled me with such speculations. But I must say I would much rather not hear such things about my own son."

Those golden eyes fixed on him.

"Legitimize him, Charles. I would not see my son subjected to such...slander. Legitimize him and the children he will bring you. And, in the meantime, cease with these public displays. He does not need more gossip about him."

Charles nodded, chastised.

He had been selfish. It was not his reputation (or life) that would suffer.

He turned toward his Omega.

"Forgive me," he murmured. "I did not think of you."

"Do not be ridiculous, my love," his Omega chastised. "I have asked for as many couplings as you gave me. Are we not jointly at fault? I am hardly a shrinking flower giving myself up for your pleasure alone."

Charles smiled.

He was glad the Apple did not take away this part of Connor for he was greatly amused by that clever tongue and the mind behind it.

As soon as the thought hit him, Charles sobered.

He looked to the bruise still upon his Omega's face, though softened by the powders his servants provided, and he looked back to Master Kenway.

His mentor and his Omega. And he would not have both the way he did if it were not for the Apple.

What would it be like to have his Connor as he had originally been? To have the Assassin madly in love with him...

Charles scoffed at himself. What a truly bizarre notion!

He had no need of the Assassin, save for slaking his lusts. His Connor was all he needed, and he was grateful indeed that the Apple had provided him with the Omega.

"Nevertheless," he murmured, "your father is right. I will marry you and set you officially as my Queen. Your relationship to Haytham and Master Kenway will be revealed. And we will send out invitations to attend the next birth..."

"Invitations?"

Charles blinked.

"Yes. Royal births are always attended to make sure the children are born of royalty and not a cuckoo switched into the nest."

His Connor looked ill.

"Strangers will see as I..."

His Omega raised a hand to his mouth.

"It is not ideal, my love, but it cannot be helped. They will want to see that your children comes from you. They are already disappointed that Haytham was born before I was crowned, and that they were not there to witness his birth."

And thank God for that. With the way Connor had bled, with that many people in the room, Davies may have been too distracted to discover the problem.

"Master, can you not do away with this custom?" His Omega begged. "Surely you can persuade them..."

"It is to secure our children's future," Charles whispered. "I have cousins in England who would leap at a chance to steal the throne. Incompetent idiots, the lot of them, but I will not risk our children's future."

His Omega did not look happy but said no more on it.

"Come now," Charles dragged his Omega into a loose hug. "It is in the future, and you need think no more on it."

"As you wish, my King."

Charles could not stop the frisson of guilt that plagued him during the rest of the ride.

----

"What has happened?" Charles' Omega cried as they neared the settlement.

Or, more accurately, where the settlement should have been.

"I know not," Charles swallowed. "Stay by me, Connor. We do not know what caused your people to have disappeared from this place."

His Omega wrung his hands together.

"My people..."

"Charles," Master Kenway spoke urgently to him. "We must find out what's happened. We need to be on our guard if there should be an enemy hidden here."

Charles nodded.

"You!" He beckoned to one of his men.

"Majesty!" The Alpha saluted him.

"See if you find anyone. I would know what happened."

"Yessir!"

Charles turned to his panicking Omega directly after and carefully wrapped his Connor into an embrace.

"We shall find out what happened, my love, I promise. And if anyone harmed them, I will have them executed."

His Omega let out a sob.

"How could this have happened?" The trembling form in his arms questioned. "How?"

Charles didn't have an answer.

"Majesty, I found this man!"

They turned as one, he, his Omega and Master Kenway, to look at the bedraggled hunter that shuffled upon meeting the gaze of the King.

"Majesty," the man bowed with a frightened glance at the soldier who hauled him up.

"Do you know what has happened here?" His Connor blurted. "My people..."

The man shrugged.

"They went west."

Charles felt his Omega go still suddenly.

"West?" The Omega whispered, horrified. "Why?"

"Hells if I know..."

"Show the King's Mistress some respect!"

The man ducked away as if to avoid a blow when Connor stepped out of Charles' arms.

"Please," he whispered, gesturing to the soldier to leave the man be.

Charles nodded at the Alpha, and the soldier backed off.

"Please," his Omega repeated, beseeching the hunter. "If you know anything..."

"Yer a lovely and kind one. I can see why the King is so besotted with you. But I'm sorry, I just know that they went west, saying something about how their task is complete, and that they left something for someone named Rado, Rato...eh, can't pronounce it worth shit, but one of their own who left them a long time ago."

"Ratohnhakéton," Charles' Omega whispered.

"Yes, that was it! Said they left something for him, in the old central lodge."

Charles saw his Omega sway and rushed forward just in time to collapse the man as he collapsed.

"If you have said anything to hurt him--" Charles began to warn the hunter.

"No," his Connor interrupted him. "It is not his doing. I am simply...surprised. I will recover from it."

Charles looked helplessly to his Omega.

"Leave us," he barked at the hunter, who scrambled away from them.

"Left something for my son," Master Kenway wondered aloud. "Could it have something to do with what we came here for?"

The other Apple.

Charles stared at the bowed head in his arms.

Of course.

"Master, if it is indeed the Apple, then I request permission to go to it, so that I may ask of it why my people left."

Charles hesitated, but then nodded.

"I will go with you."

"And I," Master Kenway added. "We need to understand why this happened, and to secure the artifact."

"Thank you."

As Charles slowly helped his Omega up, and they made their way to the lonely central lodge, Charles wondered what he would find. Then he wondered if it mattered.

He would have answers for his Omega. That he swore.

I really like that even though it's puppet! Connor, there's still the slightest hint of agency. It really seems like puppet! Connor is developing his own thoughts and personality, so not everything is just at the whim of Charles' subconscious.

Pity the real Connor will soon die.

It looks like this mini-series is drawing to an end soon... ):

Wrryy.... but wow, look how much Charles accomplished in week with the Apple and his throne. Anyway, once again love your Haytham. I love how protective he is of his son, and chewing into Charles for not marrying him before taking pleasure in Connor's heat. So the confrontation with Juno the puppet master is coming... and just when it could not get worse for Connor's true self, it gets worse... ;_;

(and worse, considering that nobles will be invited to see Connor giving birth... hopefully it won't be as awful as it was in the prison.)

;_; Yeah the Frostbite series is really not kind to Connor at all.

A/N: Warning, insomnia writing up ahead

Connor wiped away his tears as he walked through the empty settlement that had once been his home. The Omega could not help but pause more than once, as he came across familiar sights, that brought back memories of his youth. Had it truly been almost seventeen years since he had left everything behind; in hope that he could save his people and their land?

Large hands rubbed soothingly upon his tense shoulders, and he turned to see his head to stare somberly back at his husband-to-be. Both Charles and his father looked regretful, but eager to see what his people had left behind for him. With a soft sigh, he continued on, leading them to the long house where he knew where the second Apple would be waiting for him.

"I am home..." he spoke softly upon entering.

He could only imagine his best friend, Kanen'tó:kon, rushing up towards him; the Alpha would practically lift Connor off his feet while enveloping him in a big hug. His old childhood friends - Teiowí:sonte and his brother Kahionhaténion - would join in, and together, they would laugh and reminisce over old adventures and childish pranks.

But the reunion was not to be. His people had moved on, leaving the land they had protected for hundreds of years. He would find out why, the spirit had to know.

It did not take him long to identify the box that his Clan Mother had shown him before his Spirit Journey. With a deep breath, he opened it and stared at the crystal replica that the King wielded. Both Templars were leaning over him, their eyes wide and hopeful.

"Is that...?" his beloved began to inquire.

The Omega nodded as he picked up the crystal sphere with both hands.

"It is the door," he replied, not even flinching as he began to glow within his palms, bathing the room in a pale gold light.

----

"W-What the devil?!"

Connor heard Charles Lee's startled voice as he slowly opened his amber-brown eyes. The Assassin calmly regarded the dark shadows, the eerie golden light that spilled from the ever changing scenery of glowing glyphs and lines that ran in all directions. His hands, now empty, reached up to touch one of glowing symbols before him, and watched as it broke apart in the glowing shapes of numbers and symbols.

"Where are we?" his father asked as both he and Lee stared bewilderedly at their surroundings.

He regarded them stoically, his amber-brown meeting the wide disbelieving blue ones of the Alpha who had enslaved him.

"Assassin!" Charles hissed, hand flying to the Apple at his side. "How did you-"

Connor ignored him and glanced at his father, deciding to answer his question at least.

"We are in what is called the 'Nexus'," the Omega explained briefly from what he was able to recall from memory. "This is where the Spirit has communicated with my people, and where she has shown probabilities as well as the proper path for those on their Spirit Journey must take."

The Templar Grandmaster looked as if he wanted to say something, but suddenly went still; his eyes focusing on something behind Connor. Seeing a similar stunned expression on Lee's face, he had a fairly good idea what they were so mesmerized by. Or rather, who...

He turned around once more, breath hitching in his throat as the Spirit he had met long ago, hovered before him. She took the form of a rather pale woman. Whose skin was as white as snow, the same color of her gown. Upon her head of long dark hair, was a silver crown veil. But what was rather striking about this apparition, was her piercing amber eyes, glowing like liquid gold.

"Ah, long have I waited for you to return, Guardian."

Her voice was clear and resonant when she spoke. The sound echoing off the unseen walls that surrounded them.

"It pleases me to see how you have grown. From a young child, into a strong and formidable protector."

Protector? Oh how he had thought himself thus.

"You are wrong!" he could not help but cry out, shaking his head with an anguish look upon his face. "I have failed my duty to my people and the Brotherhood. I could not save anyone."

Not George or Thomas, the two Alphas who could have lead this country to freedom.

Not his comrades, both old and new, who had adored him as their mentor despite being an utter failure.

"You have succeeded," The Spirit disagreed. "Had you given into your despair long ago, you would died before having the chance to give birth. Your son would have never come to exist, and your long lineage would have ended with you."

Connor could not imagine it, a world without his little Haytham. The child was the only ray of light in his dark prison. But he was so confused! And how did his son factor into all of this?

Also...

"What of my people?" he demanded. "Were they chased away? Why did they leave?"

"Your people's purpose was to protect this place. But they no longer need to fulfill this duty anymore, and have moved on."

They were not needed, therefore they had been discarded?

"I do not understand! Please, I implore you, to explain."

She regarded him patiently, like an adult would with a temperamental child.

"I told you long ago, to seek this symbol..."

The insignia of the Assassin Brotherhood glowed brightly before him.

"...Had you remained with your people, you would have been destroyed along with your village by the once Commander of men who first razed it to ground."

The light twisted into many shapes until it formed the image of George Washington. His first love.. and the man ultimately responsible for his mother's death. He had been so heartbroken to have learned of this, even many months after the Alpha's death.

"However, because of his feelings of affection and respect for you, he changed his opinion of your people. They had been spared another attack," she explained.

This he knew as well. For that reason, he had forgiven George. He had even avenged his death by killing Thomas Hickey, who had been paraded around like some hero for such a long time.

"Yet, even as a great leader to this country, this Commander could have been... he would not have been able to sire children upon you."

With a dismissive wave, Washington's face vanished.

Connor paled, his knees buckled.

He did not understand... or rather, he did not want to understand.

"Please," he could not beg while feeling sick to his stomach. "Please tell me that I did not leave my people and home behind, that I did not lead my comrades to their deaths and into slavery, as I soaked myself in blood and tears... just to be impregnated by my nemesis."

Speaking of whom, the Assassin had forgotten that Lee and his father were present and listening to their conversation. The Spirit's burning amber gaze briefly glanced at both of them, though lingering a little longer upon his father, before focusing on Connor once more.

"You are a sacrifice, but one not made in vain."

Her words stabbed into him deeply. Even though he was physically fine, Connor still felt light headed and faint. A part of him was bleeding profusely... a part of him was dying.

"I have explained to you before, child, that you are connected to many who have changed the world. Through you, your children and your descendents will change the world will continue to change world. Until in time, what once was shall be again."

The Spirit who had condemned him to such a horrid fate, fluttered past Connor to speak with his tormentor. He did not even hear their conversation, as the Omega fell to his knees, completely in shock as he stared dead ahead at nothing.

A sacrifice?

Was that all?

Was he only destined to the wife of a man who was in love with a delusion but truly despised him?

Was he really so worthless?

----

Connor was going to be married the day after tomorrow.

Lee would not be marrying him, of course, but that other version of himself that the Apple had created. He could not even refer to his other self as a "puppet" any longer. As he watched from his prison, the Omega could not help but noticed how "real" the other Connor seemed.

That Connor was happy. His son adored him. While his true self, lay like a discarded and broken toy that a child no longer loved or wished to play with.

He felt broken.

Everything he had strived for, the Spirit had told him that it did not exist. Freedom was a lie... and now he felt it, whenever the Apple's power took hold of him. Not just Lee's apple, but the crystal one that he held for the first time.

Its power had given him hope that he save people and fight oppression wherever he saw it. He had believed himself an Assassin, a warrior. But the truth was, he was just a sacrifice. Just a pig for slaughter.

"Still sulking?"

The Omega who had been staring up at the ceiling of his quarters, made no movement as Lee hovered over him. They had not spoken on the ride back, and surprisingly his tormentor did not use the Apple on him. Perhaps, he wanted to revel in the Assassin's misery a little while longer.

Strangely, he could bring himself to glare at the man. Connor was tired. He was too tired to hate Lee, or that Spirit, or even the Apple controlled Haytham Kenway who was practically pushing them to get married as soon as possible. It was for the children's sake.

Connor bit his lip, reminding himself, again, that it would not be him. He would be alone for the rest of his life, while his other self would be surrounded by friends and family.

Lee swooped down and kissed him roughly, hands groped at his arse from beneath his nightshirt. His body arched when the Alpha pulled away to retrieve that golden sphere. For his husband-to-be wanted to make love with the other Connor and not him.

"Wait..." he whispered, finally speaking for the first time since their return from his empty village.

"What, Assassin?"

Connor cringed at that title, for it no longer held any meaning for him. Just cruel reminder, of his failures.

"Before you seal me away, may I ask one thing of you?"

Lee frowned in impatience. "You may ask, but I won't promise anything."

The broken Omega nodded.

"Well?"

"I... just one time, I want you to treat me as you do your Connor." He watched those blue eyes stare at him in disbelief, as he struggled with the rest of his request. "Will you make love to me?"

It was strange, for him to feel so envious of a puppet's happiness... but the Apple had made it all possible with its poison.
