They offer advice to Connor, at the most, in how to counter his husband's influence on little Haytham, affairs of state that they stand opposed to, but that Connor may be able to change and so on.
Ahh, it's nice to know that the they're still Assassins at heart if not it body.
Charles is paranoid about Connor disappearing though and taking Haytham with him, so he blew up the moment he saw that the two were visiting without him around.
Makes sense, Connor did scare him when he woke up and mentioned disappearing and Charles freaked out and was not afraid to start the biggest manhunt in the country in order to hunt and cage Connor if he and their child ever ran away.
