Second Fill - The Honey Moon - Part 38a/?

A/N: More speed writing, sorry if it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Really trying to rush and get as much as this chapter written before I have to leave on Tuesday.

Gently, oh so gently, Connor pressed his finger against the trigger. But just when he was about to close his eyes for the last time... a bright emerald shimmer immediately caught his attention. Immediately, he lowered the pistol aimed at his temple, and glanced down at the open desk drawer. He rubbed at his eyes, and stared at the last object that remained: a small wooden chest. Had it just glowed a second ago? Or had his mind - riddled with anxiety and dark suicidal thoughts - just imagined it?

Of course he did. Light could not emanate from an plain looking jewelry box. His eyes were playing tricks upon his already frazzled mind. He was tired. So, very tired.

The Assassin lifted the pistol once more to his forehead and...

Stopped.

From beneath the lid of the box, an eerie bright green light flickered to life. It started as a small twinkle, that grew brighter in intensity each passing second. Connor panicked as he glance at the uncovered windows in the room. If the strange glow got any brighter, it would alert the attention of the guards outside. Quickly, he moved to close drawer. But then, as if it had a life of its own, the light reached out in time. An unseen force immediately caught hold of his hand and yanked him forward.

There was a tight pressure around his wrist as it forced his hand back into the drawer. It was only when Connor relinquished his hold on the pistol, did the grip ease up, even though it did not release him completely. He reached out with his free hand to try and pull his arm away, until his normal vision caught sight of a familiar glimmer from his ring finger. Captain Kidd's treasure was glowing... was pulsing in time with the strange emerald light.

Just what in the world did Lee have in that box? A part of him did not desire to know. It would have been safer if he just locked the drawer and returned to his quarters and sleep (even if he would be doing so next to Charles). Pretend this strange dream never happened and he...

The Assassin hissed as his hand moved on it's own, fingers dragging across the bottom of the drawer until his palm lay upon the wooden box. Fear spike through his entire being as the band around his finger seemed to tighten as it shined just as brightly - a vivid gold - in time with the emerald rays emanating from beneath the lid.

"Let go, let go, please go!" he whispered desperately, afraid of raising his voice and waking the whole household. But his body refused to obey him, as numb fingers clawed at the sides of the box lid and lifted it off. For only a second, he saw the source of the strange phenomenon: a small amulet, glowing bright green and covered in the markings of his people.

Much to Connor's horror, golden (from his ring) and emerald (from the amulet) flooded the entire room. Possibly extending throughout the entire manor. Everyone would know and come running, and they would find him here.

He wanted to wrench his hand free. To seal the box, and lock the drawer once more. But his fingers would not heed his command as they dipped down...

"No ... don't!" he gasped out loud as his scooped up the piece of jewelry and curled his fingers around it.

The ominous light finally began to recede, just as Connor's slumped to the floor, and then... everything went black.
