So caught up in his fantasy of playing house, Charles failed to realize that there was no way Connor could ever be happy living in a cage. He had no friends or allies, what with the Templars guarding him and the servants practically treating him with disdain. Everything was taken away, and he had no say in his future or even his body... it's too bad Minerva did not show Charles that part with Church giving Connor a physical examination... but that probably would have been angst overkill.
Well, I do hope Charles does not give up. It would be amusing if this guilt trip Juno had planned to have distance Charles from Connor, only served to make Charles even more determined to fix things with his wife. Though, that could be her intentions.
