Ah, so the story takes place before MotH, should have realized. Also, yay two Charles vs Charles, can so picture First-Word!Charles totally blaming and beating up... himself for what the man did his (not)wife.
This crossover invaded my dream last night - since it was the last thing I read before falling asleep - where in another First Word reality, Connor had lost his family. His father and husband were killed in a fire caused by either Church or the Assassins, and Connor who had been pregnant, miscarried his child. Once he recovers, the Inner Circle promotes him as the next Grandmaster. A year later, depressed and yet somewhat suicidal Connor finds the apple and he and his close advisers: William, John, and Hickey are transported into the MotH universe...
Except, FW!Connor wakes up in MotH!Connor's body... because his counterpart had mentally died during the miscarriage. So FW!Connor is ecstatic at firs to have his family back... except he later feels like a stranger in his own home, his father and husband do not know or really love him... and more angst ensues. Not sure why William, John, and Thomas are around... probably for emotional support.
But FW!Connor is super happy, and tries to be closer to Charles... who is just freaking out that his captive!wife has become his ideal one over night, oh and his dead friends are not so dead.
Anyway, that was the dream... and then I woke up depressed.
