Usually, onboard a ship in that time period, they didn't have baths all that often, and it was even rarer to have a freshwater bath. Special soap was developed that worked in salt water, and the crew would use a spare sail to hang overboard as a saltwater bathing pool. The sail stopped them from drowning (as many sailors couldn't actually swim!). Supposedly this method was shark-proof, but I think it's more that the sailors couldn't see the sharks and therefore wouldn't panic, hence not attracting the sharks closer.
Anyway, I think Haytham could easily get away with his own private sail overboard or using the captain's tub.
