Re: OP here.
(Anonymous) 2012-12-14 12:25 am (UTC)(link)-killed Haytham's Assassin father on the day Haytham was to (sort of) become an Assassin
-sold/traded Haytham's sister Jenny into slavery
-raised Haytham to be a Templar instead
-lied to and deceived and manipulated Haytham every chance they got
And when Haytham finds out what his beloved Order has done to him and his family, what does he do? He *stays with the freaking Templars* because he believes in their ideals, (and he says so himself) he has a unique view of both sides, he thinks both sides are pretty much fighting for the same thing, and *maybe* he can bring both organizations together for the greater good.
Also, a lot of people are saying that the Templars aren't evil in AC3. I kind of disagree with that too, after reading Forsaken. I think they're just as evil and corrupt as ever. The reason they don't seem as bad in the game is because we're mostly seeing the Colonial Rite that's controlled by Haytham. Haytham who might think like a Templar, but who is really an Assassin at heart. Sure, Templars and Assassin's might be fighting for the same thing, but it's how they go about it that's different. Assassin's appreciate life. Templars don't.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-14 01:16 am (UTC)(link)Haytham was supposed to be, in the words of Ubisoft, "a dark James Bond" which is exactly what we were presented with in the game. In the book however, it was more like he was just raised that way and that's how he was going to stay no matter what because be didn't know any different.
He makes a better character going by the defecting to the Templars standard because he chose to be a Templar. He chose it because he believed more strongly in the Templar beliefs and not the Assassins which he was raised on. That way he has an idea of both sides and not just a one-sided ideal. It is also better that way because then we can infer that he obviously argued with his father about their ideals and beliefs just like Haytham does with his own son. Which in turn can be paralleled vaguely with Desmond and his father.
I do see your side, and it does make for a good AU I suppose, but it definitely shouldn't be canon...but then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
