Re: Matchmaker - Part 4 of 4

Lucy rolled her eyes and laughed. “I’ve also known him for years now. Shaun cares more about finding someone who gets his little snarky sense of humor than what gender they are. And well, given that Shaun is, you know, Shaun, that’s probably a good thing.” Desmond was quiet then, staring at the wall, thinking. Or at least, she hoped he was. It was possible he had zoned out again and was seeing people that she couldn’t. It was an unpleasant reminder that, despite how their isolated existence could sometimes fool them into momentarily forgetting, the world was going to hell and the cost of saving it would likely be Desmond’s sanity, if not his life. If it wasn’t for the fact that Shaun was perfectly aware of this, she’d think this was a bad idea that was only going to end in heartbreak. But he knew just as well as the rest of them and if he was okay with it then… Well, it was a chance worth taking.

“You really think he’s interested?”

“You know how when you two talk, how he gets more snarky than usual? And then, despite that, he’ll actually humor your attempts at a conversation for a couple of minutes before telling you to go away? Which, I might add, is a couple of minutes more than he normally humors Rebecca and I. Let’s just say, his idea of flirting sucks.”

A small, sheepishly pleased smile flickered across Desmond’s face, slightly curling his scar.

Phase 2: Find Out If Desmond Is Interested In Shaun? Success.

Phase 3 however? Well, she might be stuck sharing a sleeping bag - because the one they had hidden actually had disappeared now, to God only knew where - with Rebecca, who was giggle-snorting every time one of the boys made any noise what-so-ever. And dear God, she hadn’t needed to know that apparently Shaun was “bendy.” But she supposed that, technically, no matter how traumatic it might be, the noises she was hearing? Yeah, that was proof enough of a freakin’ huge success.
