“You were up pretty early, you should probably eat something,” Desmond said, voice perfectly reasonable as he washed his dish.
Cecil shrugged, “If you want to sleep on that weird red chair you should just do that instead of pretending on a bed,” he said right back and Desmond’s face went so totally blank it was startling.
Then suddenly he chuckled, “I don’t want to freak the others out,” he said leaning over so Cecil could hear and not Lucy who was still enjoying her coffee.
“Why would that freak them out?”
Desmond’s fake smile was so perfect Cecil had a hard time realizing it was fake. He was very good at pretending nothing was wrong obviously. Suddenly he got the reason why Erudito had gotten this cell to come get him. He’d said that he didn’t know anyone better at running and hiding then them… no not ‘them’, he’d said ‘who I sent to get you’. The others were amazingly transparent, he knew what to expect from them from the moment he saw them, they didn’t know what it meant to hide. Desmond however he didn’t know what to expect from, at all. He’d seen him be someone to not mess with, at all, but this morning he’d been perfectly charming. Cecil shivered despite himself. He didn’t know what to make of the other man and that scared him, since he knew people, he understood how they worked and how their brained worked. But here was Desmond, someone he couldn’t read, and it terrified him. What if saw through Cecil’s facade as well?
“You’ll see,” was all Desmond said with that smile.
He looked away from Desmond and went back to doing the dishes. He couldn’t panic. He needed to keep his cool. He couldn’t be found out that easily, he couldn’t, because if he was… He swallowed and tried not to think about it. Desmond left him to the rest of the dishes and he continued to scrub at the plates long after Lucy had gotten up and left for the room with the red chair in it.
