Courted Part 2 (2/3)

By the time Ezio shook himself out of his reverie and free-ran back into his part of the city, Vieri was back to being an obnoxious jerk. He jumped off the roof and stomped towards Vieri, thankfully sitting alone by the fountain.

“Oi, de Pazzi!” He called, Vieri’s eyes narrowing and expression turning dark. “I need to have a word with you.”

“Well, unfortunately for you,” he growled. “You aren’t the Auditore I need to speak to. Where is your idiotic brother? I need to discuss with him, his rather hilarious joke. Please note the sarcasm here.”

“He sent me,” Ezio answered confidently with a smile. He actually had no idea what Federico had done but he needed to question the enigmatic de Pazzi about what he saw before. He gestured to an abandoned house. “We can talk in there.”

“You seriously think I would just waltz in an abandoned house with you?”

Ezio leaned in, whispering in Vieri’s ear. “Well, our topic isn’t really something you’d want to talk about out in the open, do you??”

“Cazzo,” he hissed, pushing the smirking Ezio away. “Just lead me there, bastardo.”

---

“Is Federico so much of a coward that he’d send his brother here to talk instead?” Vieri snarled, dusting the ancient bench and gingerly sitting down.

Ezio shrugged, leaning against the door to prevent de Pazzi from leaving. He had to ask quickly before Vieri realized that his brother didn’t send him here… or his brother waltz into town for his afternoon walk.

“Why did he send them to me?” Vieri inquired, his tone biting and harsh.

Shit, his lies were starting to unravel already! “I’ll ask the questions first!” Ezio retaliated, his expression twisted into a frown. “Why do you kill your guards?”

Vieri raised a thin brow. “Is that even a question?” he said with a snort. “Because they are annoying scum of the earth.”

“No,” Ezio pushed on with a shake of his head. He pointed at the shorter male sitting down. “You deliberately killed those guards that were harassing the whores! I want to know why!”

Vieri shot up, his face flushed and his eyes blazing. “Who the hell gave you the right to follow me around!?” he growled, slinking towards the other male.

“God Vieri! Why do you pretend to be vicious when you are actually nice?!”

De Pazzi slammed his hands on either side of Ezio’s face, caging him. Only it didn’t quite have the same effect as Ezio towered over him. “Listen here Auditore,” Vieri hissed, tilting his face up to meet Ezio’s eyes. “I am not “nice”; I’m just a person that got his head out his rich ass and saw the people that needed help. Also, unlike your father, my father believes that being charitable is a weakness.”

Looking at Vieri’s conflicted expression, Ezio felt pity bubbling from the pit of his stomach. “Vieri,” Auditore said, clasping his hand on a thin shoulder. “You don’t have to act that way to impress your father. He doesn’t even deserve it.”

Vieri slapped the hand away. “I don’t want your pity, bastard.”

“I’m serious; you don’t need your father’s approval to be happy!”

The shorter male snickered darkly, eyes narrowing further. “I may not need it to be happy, but I need it if I’m to inherit his wealth, his power.” He whispered. “How can I help those people if I do not have the power and influence to support my cause? Idiota!”

“I-I see your point…”

Vieri pulled back, lips drawn tight. “I’m going to assume that your brother didn’t send you.”

“…Si.”

“Well, then there’s no point in me staying here,” Vieri said as he pushed Ezio away from the door. “This……conversation we just had. Keep your mouth shut about it.”

Then the raven was gone with a flourish of his cape, leaving Ezio with nothing but his thoughts and more questions swirling around in his head.
