I vote that both scenarios happen, with Des finding out (and freaking out a bit so he keeps it hidden), and then gets changed to an eagle. :D

Crap...just got an image of Shaun taunting Des with those little bird toys (those balls with the bells inside), and Des grumbling that he's an eagle, not a parrot. Shoot me please.
