Milano was a nice enough city, although Leonardo was more partial to Firenze and Venezia. At least the Duca was a patient man, and not prone to hissy fits if Leonardo's Muse bade him take extra time crafting his art. And, sadly, that is what happened with the Duca's great Cavallierre - Leonardo made sketches, was unhappy with them, and made more and more sketches. And at the same time took on further commissions to keep himself in good fortune, thus taking his creative juices and spending it where he shouldn't, thus furthering the procrastination cycle.
Leonardo was seated in his workshop, examining several sketches of horses in motion and at reat, smiling fondly at the memory of Ezio cantering around Monteriggioni with endless patience and boundless enthusiasm so that Leonardo would have plenty to work from. And yet, today, none of them were right for Leonardo's Muses.
One of his assistants came up to his worktable, and coughed hesitantly.
"Scusi, Maestro?"
"Yes, Vincenzo? What is it?"
"Maestro, a message has arrived for you. By carrier pigeon."
Leonardo raised his eyebrows. He knew of nobody that used messenger birds - except...
"What does it say? The message? Who is it from?"
"There is no name on it, Maestro..." Vincenzo hesitated, uncertain.
"But the message itself?"
"It says: Stop procrastinating! I want to hold you in my arms once more. That is all it says, Maestro, I will show you if it offends you-"
Leonardo waved away the youth's anxieties. "It is quite alright, Vincenzo. I know precisely who sent that note to me. Will the birs take a return message?"
"I think so."
"Good. Tell him: I will if you promise to be careful. I will think of you this night.

Leonardo went to bed invigourated and happy. Ezio's message had prompted his Muses to return, and he had spent some pleasant hours sketching several possible - workable - images for the Duca's giant statue.
For all his positivity, following the message, he still felt the lack of Ezio's company keenly. He knew that even when he lived in Venezia, Ezio was not a regular visitor, but even so, Leonardo saw him ore nights than he did not - and he missed that, in Milano. He ached for Ezio's touch. He was half hard with wanting. His eyes slid half-shut as he disrobed, dropping his moss and gold-brocade doublet to the floor, chuckling. Ezio would laugh to see the usually fastidious artist being as messy as he.
Leonardo savoured the feel of the luxurious fabrics trailing along his skin, picturing the Assassin's calloused palms following it as each inch of skin was revealed.
He slid between the sheets (silk at Ezio's insistance) and slid his hands down his belly, teasing the trail of hairs leading to his manhood with his nails, just the way Ezio did, picturing Ezio's eyes black with lust, his beautiful, scarred lips slack with want, as he did.
His hands found his cock, stiffening at the touch and memory of talented hands. He squeezed the base and stroked slowly, tantalizingly, the way Ezio always began their lovemaking. Leonardo and Ezio entered into a form of correspondence via Ezio's carrier birds, which was a peculiar mix of amusing and erotic, and always left Leonardo in the mood for privacy. It took many attempts each time to keep his replies short, so that the poor birds would not be over burdened with his ardent desires.
From Ezio: Cheek of you! My arms are empty and I cannot control the urge to rut with you like a beast.

A week went by, and there was no word from Ezio.
After sending enquiries to the Seta and Monterriggioni and getting no word back, Leonardo began to fret.

Leonardo had managed to create a sketch that the Milanese Duca liked, for his Gran Cavalierre statue, and Leonardo now was crafting a workable model of the intended statue, and at the same time, going out of his mind worrying about his Assassin lover, whom he had not heard from in almost a fortnight.
He worked from dawn to well after nightfall in order to make himself tired enough to sleep, however most nights he simply lay awake in his bottega worrying. Ezio often disappeared from Firenze and Venezia without warning, and came back unscathed, but Leonardo was so far away now that he feared not getting bad news until it was too late. But he suspected, if he left Milano, Duca Sforza would be very unhappy with him.
Every day he asked his assistants to put out crumbs and scraps for the birds to feed on, in the hopes that one of Ezio's carrier pigeons would be among the flock, to no avail. The antics of the sparrows did cheer Leonardo up, as did the fact that a number of songbirds he had bought and freed appeared daily to partake of the treats, but still his heart remained heavy with worry for Ezio.

This night was a night like any other in Milano for Leonardo, although he was tired enough that sleep came to him easily enough. His dreams all centred around Ezio.
Ezio was in front of him, removing his armour and robes, a smirk tilting his scarred lip upwards as each inch of flesh was made visible: the Assassin knew how his skin aroused Leonardo. Then he was moving back, away from Leonardo, bare chested, seeming not to move but simply recede. Leonardo walked to him, then jogged, then ran, all the time as Ezio grew smaller and more distant.
"No. Ezio! No," Leonardo whimpered, thrashing in bed.
"Rest, amore, I am here with you," Ezio's voice soothed Leonardo's fitful sleep. Once more settled in a dream, Leonardo found he was lying reclined in a sumptuous Eastern-looking bed, pillows, tapestries, incense and Ezio everywhere Leonardo looked. Ezio's amber eyes were almost black with want, and Leonardo could hear the possessive growl he gave when confronted with Leonardo in his delightful position in the fantasy bed.
But suddenly the dream-bed changed into a mire of quicksand, and Leonardo's limbs were weighted and unable to move, he could no longer see Ezio, he was afraid, he was sinking, he could not move his legs or arms, there was such a weight on his chest, he couldn't breathe he was going to---
Leonardo woke up panting hard, eyes suddenly wide open, sweating like he had run to Marathon. His arms and chest still felt weighted and heavy.
Looking down his body, for the first time in at least a week, Leonardo felt a true smile tugging at his lips. Ezio was with him, and the Assassin had climbed on top of his bed and fallen fast asleep on top of him. Nude, or at least without his robes. Leonardo could not see Ezio's legs to tell if he had kept his breeches on or not (although, knowing Ezio's preferences, Leonardo suspected not). No wonder Leonardo's dreams had been so heavily Ezio-centric. He tugged one hand free, and settled it in the soft hair at Ezio's nape.
Amber eyes opened slowly, and the Assassin looked blearily up from where he had pillowed his head on Leonardo's chest. Leonardo's heart soared when Ezio gave a msall still-almost-asleep smile, and dragged himself further up to sloppily kiss the artist.
"Ezio?" Leonardo said softly, questioningly.
"Leonardo, caro," Ezio replied happily. "My Leonardo."
Then Ezio fell back to sleep, still atop the covers of the bed, effectively pinning Leonardo until such a time as the Assassin chose to waken properly. Leonardo decided he was not unhappy with that turn of events. He would sleep well, now that Ezio was with him, safe and whole and happy.
He would sleep now, and wait to kill Ezio in the morning, for not writing to warn of his arrival.

Anon's Note: Not sure if this is a cop-out ending, but it was always my plan to have Ezio surprise Leo in bed. I just didn't expect the boys to be so ... sleepy. Hope it's fluffy enough for OP!
