Oooh, OP here, and man, I love how ominously mundane this beginning is, and the hints of what happened showing through. I love this line in particular: The sleepless nights, the endless arguing with his conspirators, the relationship breakdown with Ziio, his failing grades… and the way that Haytham doesn't mention the actual murder as part of this (and the kind of disconnect from the reality of the murder that it implies).
