, Connor knew what the Admiralty thought of his skin. If he'd been born a white man, then he would already have been made captain, possibly even post-captain. The Aquila would have been better attended to, the men could have the better wage he wanted them to have, for putting up with the ludicrous amount of impossible situations the Aquila seemed to attract.

OMG this almost made me tear up on how much Connor has to struggle being half-native and how much he cares for his crew (and vice versa)
