Cabin boy Connor

AU - Haytham doesn't leave Ziio behind after impregnating her. Instead, he marries her and Connor grows up with two loving parents. When Connor is 12, Haytham offers to show them the world, and the three head off on the Aquila to see the sights. It doesn't last long when the ship is attacked by pirates - the ship is sunk and almost everyone on board is dead. The sole survivor is Connor, who drifts for days before being pulled aboard the Jackdaw, captained by Edward Kenway.

Edward can't bring himself to kill a kid that's just been orphaned, so he informs Connor that they'll drop him off at the next port, and until then he's going to be their cabin boy. A few days later they drop him off, and head off on their own adventures again. Later, they run across the ones who killed Haytham and Ziio, and Edward learns that the ship was targeted because they wanted Haytham dead, due to his betrayal of the Order, but their leader feels Haytham didn't suffer enough - so they're going after his kid.

Edward puts the pieces together, and rushes back to save Connor, who is now in danger of being killed by his father's enemies.

Points if...

*Edward doesn't quite make it, and Connor is attacked, resulting in a scar (preferably somewhere on his face). He becomes quite conscious of it afterwards, always touching it or thinking people are staring at him because of it.

*Connor is traumatized by his parent's death and has regular nightmares. In order to relieve the nightmares he climbs into the crow's nest and sleeps. Edward always gets up early to put him back in his own bed before the crew wakes up.

*Edward doesn't do things like hugs and whatnot; he takes the subtle route when it comes to his relationship with Connor. Little touches, small gifts, lessons he wouldn't teach anyone else, things like that.

*Someone attempts to attack Connor either while they're at port or while in the middle of a battle with another ship; Connor screams and the entire crew basically goes apeshit on Connor's attacker because they've grown to like their little buddy.

*Edward teaches Connor how to pilot the ship, with lots of fluff and AWWWW moments resulting.

I've written like 58 pages for this already but I want to be done or almost finished with it before I post it (and I'm kinda/maybe close?). I'd hate to just leave it unfinished, you know? So yeah, hopefully soon! But if someone else wants to fill this amazing prompt, go right ahead :)
