Second Fill - The Honey Moon - Part 27a/?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-21 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
A/N: And now for something a little different...flashbacks!

"MAN-OF-WAR!"

The Captain of the Aquila cursed under his breath as he maneuvered his ship just in time to avoid enemy cannon fire. He had expected this ambush upon learning that the Randolph had abandoned the Belladonna - a French vessel that was supposed to deliver weapons and supplies to the Patriots - out in the open sea. Ignoring the impulse to return fire, the Assassin shouted to the gun deck and ordered them to switch to chain shots in order to bring down the English warship's masts. They would take her as a prize.

At both his sides, Faulkner and the French naval officer baulked. Insisting they should sink the enemy instead; but he had made up his mind. Connor assumed that the Templars had some how leaked the information regarding the Belladonna to British Command. However, there was no way for him to know unless he interrogated the enemy captain himself.

With that in mind, he maneuvered them closer. With her size and speed, his Lady of the Sea avoided everything the leviathan fired at her; the enemy, however, was not so fortunate. Once the main mast was down, the Aquila practically glided across the ocean waves; eager to tear into her wounded prey.

"Hook us in! Bring her close!" Faulkner shouted to the scurrying crew. "To arms! To arms!"

Connor left the wheel to his first mate as ran towards the incapacitated Man-of-War that was now tethered to the Aquila. In an instant, his sailors were running alongside him. The gun deck officer in their ranks, a older, taller, pale-faced man with a shaved-head, matched strides with him.

"Orders, cap'n?!"

Connor had known David Clutterbuck and his younger brother Richard ever since he had been a novice. David was one of the bravest and the best sailors aboard the Aquila... a man that, if the Master Assassin asked him to, would have followed his Captain into the belly of the Man-of-War even if it were sinking beneath the waves.

"Clear the deck! Their Captain is mine!"

"Aye aye!"

After climbing aboard, he sank his hidden blade into the nearest enemy as David relayed the order to the and they eagerly complied. Connor switched to Eagle Vision to track down the his target. He did not have to search long upon spotting a glimmer of gold weaving around the battles and through the thick smoke. The Assassin chased after his quarry, swiftly slicing down any who got in his way, as he followed the other captain below deck. It was dark...

It was dark. The servants were drawing the curtains to block out the mid-morning sunlight. For once, he was grateful. He was exhausted. His whole body ached, especially his backside. He just wanted to sleep, but large hands were moving across his chest, and began pulling him out of his remaining clothes.

No. No more, please!

Once he was fully nude, the hands thankfully left him. There was a rustle of fabric and the bed jostled a little as its second occupant sat up. His bleary eyes looked over to see the man beside him retrieve something small and metallic from one of the hidden coat pockets.

"How does the British Command know about the Belladonna?" Connor demanded as he stood above his fallen enemy who had failed to shoot him in such close quarters before he was taken down. The English Captain stared up at him, taking deep breaths while clutching his mortal wound.

"British Command knows nothing of this," the dying man admitted.

"Then how are you here?"

"We were lead here by a Patriot, Nichols Biddle."

Well that confirmed his suspicions about the Templar involvement. Finally his enemies had made their move. They had been much too quiet after the botched assassination attempt. But was all this done in an attempt to cripple the Patriots? Discredit the Commander-in-Chief?

"Who does Biddle work for?" Connor pressed as he knelt down. Although he knew the answer, Connor still wanted to hear it from another person's mouth.

"I think you know, Assassin..." The Englishman's lips twisted into a bitter smirk. Connor took hold of his hand and stared at the silver band that encircled the ring finger. Upon it bared the red cross emblem of his enemies.

"I still can't believe..." Connor lifted his gaze from the ring to the dying Templar's ashen face as he spoke his last words. "I still can't believe I lost... to an Omega."

The Assassin drew away as if his enemy had rearmed himself. How?! Was the question on his lips but his enemy had already succumbed to death before he could even ask. Frowning, Connor pocketed the silver ring before reaching down to close the dead man's eyes.

//blithers uselessly//

I hope that wasn't the "reveal the gunpowder stores" mission, 'cause that drove me freaking crazy. I had a near fully upgraded ship and always destroyed it or didn't hit it hard enough to reveal the powder stores.

Sooooo frustrating...

But now you've managed to supplant those memories with new ones! I love how you've merged that instance with a hint that, even at that stage, the Templars were already setting their plans for Connor in motion.

Was the ring that Charles took from his pocket the same ring that Connor took from the captain?

Don't think so, it's the escort mission where you couldn't let the MoW sink the belladonna and you had an annoying french guy at your side.

Heh,you guessed it. They needed to draw Connor away for awhile so they could prepare their ambush.

Was the ring that Charles took from his pocket the same ring that Connor took from the captain?

Yeap!

Clearly I have crappy memory.

And I see Charles is being smart for once. Sacrificing his pawn (no doubt) to gain a queen. I hope he held a ceremony for the poor captain at the least. He owes him for the diversion.

ROFL! Probably gave him a ceremony, he probably told that captain and maybe Biddle to try and capture the Aquila and her captain ... cause it's just one old ship against a British fleet... then Biddle later is like OH FUCK RUN AWAY! Nah, I'm sure Biddle was in on the plan being an IC member and all.

Would've been interesting if the original plan was to have Biddle and British captain capture Connor. Can just imagine the conversation now...

"So all the ships that were with you were lost."

"Yes."

"To a single ship."

"Yes."

"That's being captained by my soon-to-be wife."

"..."

"That's what I thought."

LOL I assume that's actually the conversation they had anyway. If Biddle had joined the fight, no doubt he and the Randolph would have sunk with all the others ships.
