Fill- All Over the World

Well, this confirms it. Desmond Miles is, officially, a doofus. Okay, so Shaun had been mostly certain before this moment- but currently, the man has terrible rock blasting from Rebecca’s speakers and is lip-synching and, well, Shaun supposes that it’s supposed to be dancing, but you never know. The man could just be having some sort of seizure, the way he’s moving.

He stares at the man with a look of mild distaste as Desmond finished a crude rendition of “Sweet Child of Mine” and moves on to a dramatic lip-synching of “Jack and Diane”. He’s staring Shaun right in the eyes, and despite that fact that Desmond’s making an utter fool out of himself, Shaun can’t help but find it endearing. It probably has something to do with the fact that Desmond is smiling, a full-fledged grin that’s just a little lopsided, and so utterly genuine.

When yet another song begins, this time slower and better enunciated than the others, Desmond actually sings along, getting close to Shaun and leaning over his chair. “Oh, Mama, I’m in fear for my life from the long arm of the law-” Desmond’s voice isn’t that bad, Shaun thinks, and the proximity isn’t that bad either. Desmond keeps singing, Shaun only catching some of the words because the American is practically giving him a lap dance, until suddenly, Desmond flings himself back and yells. It takes Shaun a moment to realize that it’s part of the song, and his heart pounds in his chest for a while as Desmond continues dancing around the temple. Thank God that Rebecca and Bill are out.

(Much, much later, after several other singing-Desmond incidents, after Shaun’s self control snaps, when they are lying together, naked and sweaty in someone’s bed, Desmond will very quietly hum “Hey Jude” as they both drift off to sleep. Shaun murmurs something about Desmond finally choosing decent music, Desmond half-heartedly swats him on the head, and they both sleep soundly for the first time in months.”
