Chasing Revenge 3

(Anonymous) 2013-03-24 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Um...so things took a bit of a turn than what I was planning initially...

Chasing Revenge

The Last

George half expected there to be a decoy or a trap like there had been with Kenway.

Instead, he found Lee reclining in his couch waiting for him, pistol in hand, sharp eyes watching his every move.

It was unexpected, given how much Lee loved to disappear and hide.

“You can’t imagine how surprised I was when I realized that it is you who is causing us this much trouble. I can still scarce believe it, but there you stand.”

Lee stood, pistol steady and trained on George, mouth twisted into a sneer.

“Hello, old friend.”

He reached next to him and pulled up two long blades. He threw one of them to George.

“Are you still that weak Alpha who let an Omega protect him or have you actually changed?”

Lee set the safety on his pistol and then threw it into a corner. His sword came up, challenging George.

Grimly, George sheathed his hidden blade and readied the sword in return.

Lee mockingly saluted him.

“Let’s see how much you’ve learned, sir.”

And he leapt at George.

George managed to block the man’s first thrust just in time.

Lee snarled at him.

“So you’re an Assassin now. Fitting that I end that pathetic Brotherhood.”

George spat at him at that. Lee glared at him as he paused to wipe away the spittle.

“Your Order was hunted down by a single man. First Connor. Now me. If one of those is pathetic, it certainly isn’t us.”

The two swords clashed and locked momentarily.

“My wife was quite remarkable,” Lee leered. “But you? Collins was a lawyer, not a fighter. Binn may have been a soldier, but one who was old and nearing his time. Davies would have soon betrayed us for profit. I should probably thank you for doing us a favor. And Master Kenway...”

Lee took a step back, face contorted with grief and guilt.

“Do not think it is your own skill that felled Master Kenway. He knew you were coming and let you kill him.”

Lee shook with held back sobs.

“He was never the same after, after...”

Lee looked back at him suddenly, eyes wild and spitting with hate, before he jumped back with manic energy and murderous intent.

“It’s all your fault!”

It was all George could do to keep parrying the man’s mad strikes.

“Mine? I did nothing! I was you who—”

Lee kicked at him, and he dropped to his knees with the suddenness of the move. Quickly, he rolled away before he could be beheaded.

“He gave his life for you!

George backed away from the clearly crazed man.

“What are you talking about? You were the one who ripped him away from me. You raped him until he became pregnant with your spawn and then let him die giving birth to it. You clearly didn’t care about anything but that.”

Lee laughed suddenly, and George was discomfited to see the tears in his eyes.

“Is that what you think?”

He laughed some more, the sound deranged and biting.

When George took a step forward, the sword came sharply up, threatening.

“Connor would have survived the birth. He did survive it. But...”

George was taken aback by the sheer viciousness of the hate in his eyes.

“You were supposed to die. It would have been too dangerous to allow both you and Connor to be alive at the same time. There was too much of a chance that he’d find some way to free you.”

Lee licked his lips.

“He was so beautiful, my child in his arms as he nursed the babe. And I knew I’d be weak to him.”

Understanding settled into George’s heart like poison.

“You fell in love with him,” he whispered, horrified.

The broken man before him nodded.

“He still loved you. To the very end.”

Lee sounded so very tired.

“So I thought to eliminate you. I couldn’t take the chance that he’d find some way to free you. Too much had been done, and the Order was finally in a good place.”

Both men went silent, lost in thoughts and regrets.

George was the first to break the silence.

“So what happened?”

Lee growled.

“He found out. One of my men made the mistake of speaking about it when we thought he was asleep.”

George could see the tension coil in Lee’s body, ready to erupt at any moment.

“He begged me. He begged me to spare you, and when I told him that I couldn’t take the chance, when I tried to explain that it was too dangerous to have both of you alive he...”

Lee stared off to the side, eyes momentarily vague and lost in memory.

“I don’t know where he got the knife. I punished the servants for it because he shouldn’t have had it. He shouldn’t have...”

He trailed off, remembering.

George looked on in horror. He wasn’t implying, he couldn’t be implying that Connor...

Oh God, Connor...

“His last words to me were that, now that he’s gone, now that there wasn’t any more threat or danger to the Order, you can live. He made me promise not to kill you.”

Lee came back to himself.

“My wife’s dying words were of you. To keep you safe.”

So that was why George was let free, to do as he pleased those nine years ago.

The look in Lee’s eyes was so wrathful, so bitter, that it couldn’t even be named hate.

He struck at George, anger and grief and frustration and a litany of other emotions guiding his hand.

His slashes were powerful and filled with deadly intent. His mouth curled into a sneer.

“My wife died for you. Master Kenway was never the same after that. And I promised not to harm you while you did not threaten the Order.”

Lee parried his blade and pushed at him suddenly. Caught off balance, George tumbled to the floor, stilling as a deadly tip pressed firmly against his throat.

“I’ve been waiting many years for this, sir. Thank you for finally giving me the chance.”

And he drew his hand back, ready to slash George’s throat when his eyes caught on the beaded armband peeking out from George’s shirt. Connor used to wear it, and after he’d found it at Kenway’s place, he’d wrapped it around a chain and worn it as a necklace under his shirt. It had clearly come loose from the struggle and was now covering George’s chest protectively, a beautiful and brilliantly colored pattern of distinctive blues, reds, whites and blacks so reminiscent of the man who once wore them.

Lee stared at the beads and slowly lowered his blade.

He crept closer to look at them, to touch them, pure grief filling his face.

“Where...?”

And George leapt up and thrust his hidden blade into the man’s heart.

“He may have been your wife,” George whispered to the dying man, “but not willingly. You stole his future from him. You stole our future from us. And when you tried to end me, he protected me. Like he has always done.”

He looked down at the eyes slowly glazing over. He saw the grief and the fury in them, and he felt satisfied.

“Sleep now, Charles. Sleep with the knowledge that your Order falls with you and that Connor is finally avenged of the wrongs done to him. Sleep and know that our beautiful wolf runs free at last.”

He swiftly withdrew his blade and, stepping behind the man, slit his throat.

George set the body upon the ground, drawing the man’s eyes closed as he had done for the man’s mentor.

A small whimper drew his attention, and he looked up into the open doorway to see the terrified eyes of a small boy who looked to be no more than 8.

Amber-brown eyes. The exact same shade as Connor’s. A face with signs of Native ancestry in it.

George put two and two together and swallowed.

Connor’s son.

/whimpers/ this was way more tragic then I thought it would be, Connor committing suicide (Haytham as well), George and Lee blaming the each other for Connors death and lil Haytham seeing his father murdered ...uh oh

Me too, actually. I was writing it, and then I was going...WTF am I writing?! Guess I just can't help myself when it comes to angst...

Haytham's suicide method was a bit more creative (suicide ala George), but yeah. We all know that Haytham Kenway would never be taken down by a mere smoke bomb unless he wanted to be.

Poor Lil Haytham. He never escapes grief and tragedy with his family no matter what.

//pets lil Haytham//

Oh but I'm so glad you did write it, that angst filled sword battle was amazing, and that part with Connors beads ... Wow

Thanks! :) Glad you enjoyed it! :D

One more (short) part, I think, but haven't quite figured out what to do with lil Haytham yet. He's tricky...

Definitely ended up somewhat Kill Bill. Oh well.

Chasing Revenge

The Future

For a moment, man and boy stood staring at each other in shock.

And in that time, George noticed small details about the boy.

His hand was still clutching the doorknob, his eyes were fixed upon his father’s body and on the blade that George had used to slit the man’s throat, his body shook with small tremors and his face, open, expressive, finely boned just like Connor was twisted in fear and horror.

George imagined the boy must have wandered upon the scene just as he finished Lee.

He swallowed and remembered when Connor had told him of his mother’s death. The look on his face was much the same.

It seemed he would always be responsible for pain to those who least deserved it.

Briefly, he entertained the notion of killing the boy. It would be a mercy and an ending to the tragedy that took over all of their lives.

And it would be so, so easy.

The boy was still transfixed on his father’s corpse, and intuition told George that the boy was untrained, young and innocent.

Just like Connor had been when his mother perished.

He never got the opportunity to reveal the truth to Connor or even to make amends, but he would make sure that did not happen with Connor’s son, even if the boy was also Lee’s.

He owed him that much and so much more.

He sheathed his blade. The boy started, wide eyes flicking over to him.

“I know you have no reason to believe me, but I am sorry that it came to this. I know I must have hurt you, but it had to be done. Your father was not a good man.”

He paused, looking over the boy.

Long shoulder length hair dark hair, light tan to skin, resentment boiling away in his eyes...This was indeed Connor’s son.

“Your caretakers will be here momentarily. They will likely leave you with your father’s relatives for your safety.”

And there would likely be attempts on the young prince’s life. Such was the way of royalty.

George would make sure none of them succeeded and that his allies, few as they were, would watch over the boy.

They, too, had bonds to the boy’s mother.

“What is your name?” the boy asked, and George wasn’t surprised to see hate begin to mix with the fear in the boy’s eyes.

“George Washington. Why do you want to know?”

The boy glared at him.

“So I can find you and kill you one day.”

He smiled. That was what he thought.

Connor’s son, through and through.

He bowed.

“Then, I wish you luck, little prince. And I look forward to when we’ll meet again.”

It would be...fitting, that he die by this child’s hand.

His final amends to his beautiful wolf.

Wait for me, Connor.

Finis.

Another beautiful fill and so, so tragic with Washington becoming Haythams silent guardian as Haytham will grow up to avenge his father (though he might have a hard time tracking George who is dead to the world)

I do hope this isn't the last fill for the series... I don't think I'll stop crying if it was... And if you're looking for plot bunnies to adopt... I have dozens pawing at my brain but still need to finish up Honeymoon and Shattered Glass (which I will finish after these flashbacks)

Um...lol? :)

Glad you like it! :D You've really helped inspire me further with Honeymoon and Shattered Glass, and I can safely say that it wouldn't have been bigger than 1 story if it hadn't been for you. :)

Not sure about future stories for this series. Currently flirting with a modern version, where they're all reincarnated. Or maybe a rebirth and second chance version, where Charles Lee wakes up the day he meets Connor for the very first time.

Oooh modern versions are interesting to. I did have an AU plot bunny I wanted to share, and I might try and tackle if I finish Shattered and get where I need to be to end Honeymoon (I have an ending in mind... I just need to write towards before my muse starts hurling more filler scenes at me). So remember when Connor wakes up and asks "What if I did disappear?" and Lee rants about what he would do... that actually happens.

Where, what if Haytham had not known the significance of the feather. Connor wakes up but he and Clipper pretends that he is still asleep and they manage to slip away. The Aquila bombs Fort George and liberates Stephane and Deborah, and they high tail it to the seven seas.

Started writing parts at work where 5 years after giving birth, Connor gives himself up when cornered by Biddle in order to buy his crew and family time to escape. Connor makes Faulkner swear an oath to him, to tell his son that he had passed away and for the Aquila to not return to American in order to reclaim him. So Connor's son grows up being raised by the crew and recruits to become the ultimate Pirate Assassin: /drum rolls/ Edward Kenway (and just to spite Charles, his middle name might be George) who finds out on Faulkner's death bed, his mother is indeed still alive.

Sorry my brain is a plot bunny farm

:O

Very nice tie-in with the new Assassins. :D

Very, very nice. Though I can't imagine that Charles treated Connor very well since he ran off and his son disappeared off the face of the map.

Such angst potential...such adventure potential!

But yes, your brain is a plotbunny farm. I like! :)

Well, not sure what I'll do atm, but probably will take a short break. And then may dive into whatever plotbunny's nomming on my brain.

A bit hard to track down a dead guy, yes, but George'll be waiting for him, so...

It's partly why George doesn't mind so much. It's fitting, after what he did to Connor. And he has very little left at this point. Everyone thinks he's dead (his plantation would've been sold already), he lost Connor, and Connor's son is Charles Lee's.

And it's a sense of irony since, in the original series, Haytham grew up to resurrect the dead Assassins. In this AU, he grows up to resurrect the Templars. :)

This series and your writing just always guts me emotionally. It's just so sad and tragic but still kind of beautiful at the same time and I inevitably end up on the verge of tears . . .

So, basically, you're amazing at what you do. :)
