The purge starts sometime shortly after the Mentor’s murder. William Miles is now giving orders, and the assassins that remain are a complete trainwreck.

It’s a wonder Hannah’s managed to survive so far, really.

As each stronghold falls, she can only ask herself “Why?”

“Why? Because we put our money on the wrong guy.” One survivor, someone who was allegedly a student and friend of the former Mentor, responds bitterly. Hannah is abruptly brought back to reality. She struggles to meet his eyes as he crushes his cigarette with a steel-toed boot and glares at her before spitting at her feet.

And then he’s gone, off to deal with the damage caused by Abstergo’s numerous raids. The brotherhood is broken, and Hannah Mueller feels responsible.

She feels oddly out of place, within a new base established by Bill. The only real friendly face for her these days is found in Rebecca Crane, who sits with her and jokes with her like they’ve known each other for years.

It still does not shake the feeling that everyone’s eyes are on her if she dares to speak up or offer her help in evacuating the assassins who have not yet been targeted by Abstergo, by the Templars, by Daniel.

“Haven’t you helped enough?” One field agent snaps, her hands balling into fists after Hannah attempts to contribute to an evacuation plan.

“Woah, easy now...” Rebecca begins, putting her hands up between the two women. “It’s not like any of us could have known he was a sleeper-”

“You’re just as fucking bad. You weren’t born into this, Crane, you don’t know what it’s like to deal with outsiders who are allowed into the order. We take a chance every. Single. Fucking. Time. With you people!” The agent’s voice is steadily rising, yet Rebecca moves to stand between her and Hannah. “Hell, you’re not even on the same page as those of us that go out into the field, risking our lives by dragging the remains of our friends - of our fucking FAMILY - out of those ruins! We gamble with our lives on a daily basis. She - “

“...Is not an ‘outsider’, or whatever you want to call it.” Rebecca and the agent stopped and turned towards Hannah.

“I would be more than happy to go and get our people out of that mess,” Hannah shoved her hands into her pockets to hide the tremors going through her body. “I hate watching this, okay? I feel responsible enough as it is! Send me out there, if it makes you feel any better.”

OP is still loving this :3 Ah, Rebecca, you are awesome, standing up for Hannah. It's good to see their friendship here, and I also like how you're showing Hannah's guilt about this (even though its not her fault).

Can't wait to see more!
