Re: You Are A Templar
(Anonymous) 2013-01-03 08:22 am (UTC)(link)Benjamin Church
Benjamin Church had dreams. Dreams of importance, of being much admired and praised and liked. In his dreams, he would be the top physician to the most important person in the colonies. No! To King George himself! Ladies would crowd around him and beg him to lavish his attentions on them while the men would toast to his genius and success.
Pity he’s stuck here in this backwards location with these troops for company instead. Just who did that bloody commander think he was, ordering Benjamin to mix with these common soldiers? None of them even have a penny to their name or even come of good stock, save perhaps Charles, some of the higher ups and the French. And by God, Haytham has some nerve to demand he share his information with that half-breed Templar Assassin of his.
Bah! Benjamin knew what he was truly destined for, and it wasn’t to play spy with some Mohawk boy. This Connor may have bamboozled the others (Benjamin really thought John, at least, would have had more sense), but the boy wasn’t important enough for him to waste his time on.
And not to mention, the redcoats weren’t so bad. They, at least, accorded Benjamin the respect he truly deserved and, if Benjamin played his cards right, why, he could have the ear of the King himself! Pity those starving soldiers of Washington. Can’t be helped.
Although if Haytham found out he’d been double-dipping, Benjamin would be in danger. Best to destroy the evidence. Speaking of which, where are the men rerouting those supplies? Surely they haven’t gotten lost…
Benjamin gulped as a young half-Mohawk stepped into the doorway.
“Benjamin Church, for your crimes against the Order…run.”
Benjamin Church had many dreams. None of them involved becoming prey.

There are certain things a man expects when one is Grandmaster of one’s own branch of Templars. Simple things really. Respect. Having one’s orders followed and not questioned. Not having to look after impertinent brats that one’s mentor and friend in England decided to offload into one’s care.
Sadly, Haytham Kenway was feeling very much imposed upon by all three in the form of a smiling half-native Templar Assassin (and of all the epithets, must Reginald gift the child with that one?). It is clear that the child’s mission must be to disrupt all of Haytham’s carefully ordered world for during the short time since he first stepped onto these shores (mayhap returned might be a better world for he was surely born to a nearby tribe) he has managed to somewhat usurp Charles’s devotion, spook Johnson, make Hickey even more insufferable than the man usually is, capture Pitcairn’s attention and assassinate Church (much deserved though it might be).
And while Haytham appreciated the discovery of the traitor and the kill, he would have been much happier had the child sought his permission before he took action. Cheeky child. Really, the boy reminded him of himself during his youth. Intelligent if somewhat impulsive. Thoughtful yet deadly. A most singular puzzle, considering the boy’s heritage and raising.
Which led Haytham to his current predicament. Reginald had requested that he continue the boy’s education in Templar affairs. There is no one better, the man had claimed. And while Haytham agreed with the sentiment, he did not understand exactly why he agreed with the sentiment. What was it about the child that struck him as…familiar?
The child was always following about Haytham, inserting his opinions where they were not wanted and doubting Haytham’s own pronouncements. He had ignored Haytham’s warning not to enter a pub for fear of animosity towards his very obvious native-heritage (Haytham pointedly ignored the fact that the drunkards had apparently decided Haytham was a better target) just the past week and proven himself disgustingly at ease on treetops.
Why, if Haytham didn’t know better, he’d think the boy was related to Ziio (though that couldn’t possibly be true, Ziio had told him she was an only child)! He certainly took after her stubbornness and ability to both infuriate and fascinate Haytham at the same time.
Really, how Reginald could ever expect him to mentor the boy is beyond Haytham…
OP Haytham

(Anonymous) 2013-01-03 09:33 am (UTC)(link)So happy to read that comment! Unfortunately, I can't say I've read Forsaken and therefore, really can't do Reginald's voice. But I've somewhat closed the look (and might have opened a new one) with Connor's brief epilogue.
Glad you liked! :)

Revenge is a dish best served cold. And Connor has had a decade to chill and let it age. Ever since Johnson stole him away from his village that night Washington had murdered his people, he has bided his time, waiting for the time to come back to this land and destroy those who destroyed the boy he had been. But his efforts (and Master Reginald, he must never forget Master Reginald) have borne fruit, and Washington lies disgraced, removed from his high authority as commander and his precious plantation sacked and burned.
And Connor…Connor can finally let himself relax in Haytham’s, in his father’s presence. Oh, there are, of course, still the Assassins, diminished in number due to his efforts, and Connor had vowed to support his father’s Templar cause (indeed, that was the condition on which Reginald allowed him to journey across the Atlantic). But the Assassins are scarcely a threat, as weak as they are and will fall soon (though Connor hopes to recruit the master Assassin rather than kill him for Kanen'tó:kon is one of the few members of his beloved village remaining).
No, what Connor will focus on now is ...
“Father, will you allow me to join your for afternoon tea?”
