Driving lesson 1/1

(Anonymous) 2013-01-20 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
(So, Anon decided to continue the story I started above I'm really sorry if this isn't that great or not what OP expected, but I'm really rusty at writing fic's so please bare with me ^_^u also, this is my first time posting here so yeah >.>)

"Alright, now put it in reverse like I showed you." Haytham told his son, as he watched him from the passenger seat.

"Like this?" Connor asked slowly, applying his foot to the gas then shifting to Drive.

"No! Connor stop before you-" Haytham flinched as he heard the sickening crunch of his Camaro's bumper meeting the cement barricade in front of them.

"Oops..." Connor mumbled, unbuckling and standing up in the convertible trying to see how much damage he'd done.

"My car..." Haytham whispered to himself in a daze. "my beautiful car..."

Connor fell back into the drivers seat and turned to his father, offering him a quiet 'sorry' before buckling his seat belt and shifting into reverse, backing out of the parking spot.

Haytham sighed, rubbing his temples in irritation, “How is it you can sail my boat with ease, yet you can not drive my car?”

Connor shrugged his shoulders, gripping the steering wheel tightly and staring straight ahead. “She is a ship.”

“Yes, and?” Haytham snapped, his already patients wearing thin.

“You called her a boat.” Connor stated boredly as he turned to stare at his father blankly. “She is not, she is a ship.”

Haytham grumbled to himself for a moment before turning to glare at his son. “Would you just drive?” He snapped, then turned to look out the window. With a shrug of his shoulders Connor shifted the car into drive and made his way down the road at a turtles pace.

“Connor, the speed limit here is sixty, not thirty. Either speed up or get off the road.” Haytham told his son, sounding incredibly bored as he stared out the window.

“I- Sorry...” Connor mumbled before pressing his foot down on the accelerator. Haytham jumped in his seat upon hearing the car roar to life under him before taking off down the road like a shot from a gun.

“Sixty Connor,” Haytham shouted at his son over the wind before glancing at the speedometer. “Not one ten! Sixty!” He Yelled, holding tightly to the door, not daring to let go.

“For god's sake boy, pull over!” He cried, immediately regretting his words as his son slammed on the breaks, almost giving both of them a face full of the cars dash.

Connor watched in surprise as his father quickly got out of the car and flopped down on the shoulder of the road.

“Are you alright?” He asked slowly as he got out of the car and walked over to his father.

“Perfectly fine,” Haytham stated as he stared up at his son from where he lay in the grass. “Just need a moment to get my bearings.” Haytham stared up at the sky for a while before looking at the road. “Connor... where is the car?”

Connor stared at his father for a moment, confusion evident on his face. “What do you mean?” He asked as he turned towards the road, only to realize that the car was no longer where he had left it.

“Oh good lord!” Haytham snapped as he shot to his feet and started running down the road. Connor watched for a moment as his father chased his rolling car down the road before following after him and the car.

“How could you forget to put it in park?!” Haytham hissed in annoyance as he glared at his son. His poor car now sporting another dent, this time on it's side. Connor shrugged with a small nervous smile before he turned to his father.

“So, where to?” He asked innocently, as he shifted the car into drive.

Haytham stared distastefully at the burger he held in his hand, how was it his son could eat this garbage. “When I said lunch I meant food, not...” Haytham paused to gesture to the burger, “this.”

Connor shrugged his shoulders as he took a bite of his Big Mac. “It is not my fault you have a refined palate.”

Haytham sneered as he leaned away from his son, “Connor, don't speak with you mouth full, you're not a child.”

“Connor!” Both father and son turned quickly to see a young man waving as he walked towards them.

“Paul? What are you doing here?” Connor asked his... 'friend' as he neared their table.

“Oh, well, I was supposed to be meeting Sam here for a ride to the movie theater. They're re-releasing The Patriot in 3D, we were supposed to go see it together but he's fallen ill. I don't suppose you'd be able to give me a ride?” He asked hopefully.

“No, absolutely not. We have a driving lesson we need to get back to if you have any hope of obtaining your license.” Haytham said stubbornly as he shook his head.

Haytham grumbled from the passenger seat as Paul shouted from behind him for Connor to keep going, how they had managed to get him to agree to this he'd never know.

“Go left here Connor!” Paul shouted in Haytham's ear pointing to where he wanted Connor to go.

“Would you kindly stop yelling in my ear!” Haytham snapped at Paul as he glared at the younger man.

“Oh, sorry...” Paul mumbled sheepishly as he fell back in his seat with a quiet thud. Haytham looked around in confusion as the car slowed to a stop and watched his son hop out of the drivers seat and walk to the front of the car. “Get back in the car Connor! We must hurry!” Paul once again yelled in Haytham's ear as Connor picked up a turtle and moved it across the road.

“What did I just say?!” Haytham yelled at Paul as Connor sat back down in the drivers seat.

“I'm right here, you don't have to yell you know.” Paul grumbled as he turned to Connor. “Your father is weird.”

Haytham ran a hand over his face, letting out a frustrated groan as he slumped back in his chair. Connor smirked and patted his fathers shoulder comfortingly before resuming driving down the road.

Finally after what had seemed to be forever, in Haytham's opinion at least, they arrived at the movie theater.

“Thank you for the ride my friend, I couldn't have made it in time if not for you!” Paul said cheerfully as he stood up in the car, about to jump over the side.

“You are welcome.” Connor stated with a wave, waiting for his friend to leave the car.

“Say, if you're still in the area later, how about giving me a ride home? I'd greatly appreciate it!” Paul said hopefully. Haytham stared between Paul and Connor for a moment, surely his son wasn't actually going to say yes.

“Well, I do not know- that is to say that I am unsure if-” Connor stumbled over his words as if unsure of what to say. Haytham, however, was having none of it.

“I'm sorry, but we'll be terribly busy later.” He stated sharply, daring Paul to challenge him.

“But I-” and with that Haytham gripped the back of Paul's shirt and threw him out of the car and onto the pavement outside the movie theater.

“Father!” Connor cried in alarm, about to get out of the vehicle to check on the annoyance he called his friend.

“Drive.” Haytham snapped, glaring at his son.

“But-”

“Drive or I'm throwing you out next, am I understood?” Haytham snapped, leaving no room for argument. Connor nodded quickly, shifting to drive and leaving Paul sitting on the pavement looking gobsmacked.

Oh WriterAnon, that was lovely! Thank you so much for the fill, I was laughing my head off from beginning to end. Connor moving the turtle across the road is something I've definitely done in the past too. :3 And Paul Revere was absolutely amazing, yelling in Haytham's ear like that.

Thank you so, so much again! I shall definitely be reading this many times over. :3 *hugs*
