Second Fill Side Story - Shattered Glass 5a/? (WashCon)

(Anonymous) 2013-02-27 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
A/N: Last chapter... and I'm really not nice to Washington in this one...

Shattered Glass
(Shattered)

“And, do you, Connor Kenway, take this Alpha to be your lawfully wedded husband?”

"I do."

"Then by the powers vested within me, I now pronounce you as husband and wife."

"Father! Father! Welcome home!"

After handing his cape and hat over to a man servant, George turned as two twin boys came barreling down the stairs towards him. He smiled, dropping to one knee and held out his arms. They nearly knocked him over onto his back as they leapt into his embrace. So strong, just like their mother.

"I missed you pups as well," he spoke fondly while stroking their reddish brown locks which they both had received from him along with many other features. However, they both had their mother's golden-brown eyes that he adored so much. It was difficult not to get lost in those warm pools as he listened to the babble with excitement about the visit over of their aunt and many uncles, until the Alpha remembered that there was one other special person waiting for him.

"You will have to tell me everything at supper," he interrupts gently. "Now, go run along and wash up."

They gave him a tight squeeze before they ran off, disappearing around the corner with the maid on their heels. Shaking his head, though still smiling with amusement, George climbed the stairs in search for his Omega.

The door to his wife's study was slightly ajar, and he could see the soft iridescent glow emanating from it. He approached as silently as possible, pushing the door open a little wider so he could peer inside. To his surprise, his wife was sitting in one of the armchairs facing the flickering fireplace, and not working at his desk as he was accustomed to doing these past few months.

It only takes a few seconds for his wife to detect his presence, as he looks up from the book he had been reading. "Welcome home, husband."

George scoffs at himself but resumes smiling as he enters, walking around the armchair and leans down to kneel down at his Omega's side. "It is good to be home, wife. How are you faring?"

Connor returns his smile as George holds his hand. "Much better now that you are here, and the knowledge that Lee is finally dead."

Nodding grimly, George has to admit that it was a huge relief knowing that newly appointed Grand Master Charles Lee could no longer pose a threat to the Assassins, and to their family. The Templar Inner Circle of old was finally broken. Gone. Now, Connor's former recruits - full fledged Assassins now - were hunting down the lower tier with little difficulty.

"I believe your second-in-command, Stephane Chapeau, attended the execution."

The Master Assassin nodded. "In case the lower ranking Templars planned to disrupt it. Clipper and Jamie had no problems removing them. Although I wish I could have been there."

George squeezed his wife's hand. "It would have been too risky, especially in the condition you are in now..."

Both men glanced down to Connor's swollen belly, where their third child waited to be born. His wife winced as the baby kicked inside him. "Someone else is excited that you are home."

Gently, George placed a hand upon his wife's round stomach and waited. Sure enough, his child kicked in silently greeting. He chuckled before looking at Connor's tired but relieved face.

"Should I have supper brought to you?"

Connor shook his head and made a move to stand with his husband's assistance. "I wanted all of us to eat together as a family on your return. Besides our boys are very eager to tell you the stories of what they have been up to these past few days. With you distracted, and without me present, I fear they will try to hide their vegetables under the seat cushions again."

George laughed as he gently supported his wife. "Shall we, Mister Washington?"

"Lead the way, Mister President."

They took a step forward, before Connor slipped through his grasp.

At that moment, time seems to slow down. George cannot move, his feet are rooted to the ground, his body unresponsive. He can only watch wide, horrified blue eyes, as his beloved falls to the ground, and shatters into hundreds of tiny pieces of multi-colored glass.

His heart stops. Time stops. Cracks break across the floor, running up the walls and ceiling of his once perfect home.

No, no, no!

George drops to his knees, ignoring the breaking world around him, as he scoops up the pile of glass that had once been his wife. He squeezes them hard, as if willing Connor's whole form back to him, uncaring as the shards bite deeply into the his flesh of his hands. Rivulets of blood run down his arms, but it is a pain he cannot feel. A pain that does not rival the agony of watching everything he had held dear, everything he had hoped to become, shatter all around him.

When George Washington opens his eyes, he stares up at the ceiling of his prison.

Time resumes, and ticks in broken clocks.

Congratulations Anon. You've made me cry.

;_;

I love this so much...the light banter, George calling Connor "Mister Washington" and Connor responding with "Mister President"...the energy and playfulness of the boys...the fact that Connor's pregnant again...

And the end! The description of the broken clocks is beautiful and jarring and absolutely poetic.

Poor George...

...also wondering, timeline-wise, is this right before Charles comes over to gloat or is this right before Washington finally dies (when Connor's roughly 4-5 months pregnant)?

This is before Charles starts gloating and way before he dies. OP/anon, was wondering how long does the war go on? Charles does not seem to be on the battlefield for long.

It's definitely ended roughly one year from the wedding (when the prologue of Master of the House starts). Charles probably drops home to check on Connor after he's been impregnated the first time (and happened to be home during the miscarriage), but he was actually gone most of that year.

I know, I'm so mean to him! It's really unfair that Charles gets the life that George envisioned for himself; but it's as Achilles always says, life is no fairy tale and there are no happy endings :(

We're both so mean to him.

//pets George and Connor//

Charles didn't quite get that life, but yeah...George would love to be in Charles's place.

I know, and apparently all the NPCs know it to. Was playing AC3 today and just strolling around New York WITH NO NOTORIETY when like 20 Red Coats stop and gawk at Connor before shouting out "GET HIM!" and start chasing poor Connor around the city...

Anyway, hope we get to read more Charles/Connor in your next installment. I think since you finished, I've been going through withdrawal and have been re-reading Master of the House.

At the part where Clipper asks Charles if he and Connor were still having 'carnal relations' and Charles gets all mortified (and mentally calls Clipper a tart - LOL). Then suddenly remembered in the Honeymoon series Charles flat out asks Connor if he's ever performed a blow job, and Connor gets all mortified. Way to avenge your mentor, Clipper.

Going to stop rambling now, and try to reread more Master of the House work on part 5b since it's going to be worse than 5a... actually all of chapter 5 is one whole angst fest.

Yay ANGST! :)

Glad you're enjoying Master of the House. lolz. :D I constantly reread your delicious angst for inspiration, too. Especially George's feelings of helplessness.

Methinks I may be somewhat masochistic in my love of angst... o.O

Oh, Anon, why? I feel like crying this is so beautifully written.

Why does it have to be so tragic? And since nobody else writes happy WashCon I'm left with my feelings.

You do a great job!
