A Little (Honest) Competition [5/5]

“Only our discussions?” Lorenzo teased, stroking fingers over Leonardo’s hip and then around his lower back, even as the apprentice blinked rapidly and blushed as he was drawn closer. There was a flicker of familiar white by the window, just against the heavy curtains, swallowed by the shadows of the still darkened room, but Lorenzo kept Leonardo’s gaze arrested.

“Al… Altezza…” Leonardo breathed, as Lorenzo leant closer. “I… I do not think this is entirely advisable…”

“Forget whether it is advisable. Do you want this?” Lorenzo instructed, keeping his tone velvet and low, stroking the pad of a thumb over Leonardo’s lower lip.

“Duce…”

“Yes, or no?” His words gentle, yet inexorable; Lorenzo could see that the apprentice was wavering, on the cusp of surrender.

“Yes,” Leonardo breathed, their lips a finger’s breadth apart, “And yet no, Altezza. Forgive me… you have been kind to me, but even as I do want you, I cannot out of conscience… there, there is another whom I want just as much, and it would be unfair-”

“Another?” Lorenzo frowned.

“Your assassin, Duce… I am so sorry…” The apprentice’s voice trailed off as Lorenzo began to chuckle, and he blushed in embarrassment. “I know I do not deserve your attention-”

“Come out, Giovanni,” Lorenzo said dryly, pressing a brushing kiss over Leonardo’s forehead. “I know you are there.”

Giovanni bowed once he emerged out of the shadows in the corners of the room to the dim light afforded from the torches lit below, in the courtyard, his smile rueful. “A tie, master?”

“A tie,” Lorenzo pressed his lips against a mouth parting in puzzled surprise, and chuckled again at Leonardo’s flinch as Giovanni pressed up behind the apprentice, encircling them both with his arms, the steel spring of his bracer mechanism pushed against Lorenzo’s hip. “A pity. Watching you beg for mercy is always so compelling.”

“What do you propose in turn, master?” Giovanni stifled Leonardo’s attempted query with a quick nip over his ear that trailed down to the curve of his neck, gently nuzzling long tresses aside.

“We share. That is, if the prize has no objections.” Lorenzo turned an encouraging smile to Leonardo, followed by a sly one from his assassin.

Leonardo laughed, then, glancing between them both, his quick mind clearly connecting the dots from the scarcity of clues. “No objections, Altezza.”

“Then, let us retire to my chambers.” Lorenzo cupped Leonardo’s cheek, smirking as the apprentice nuzzled his palm, and his assassin kissed his ring. “Care for another wager, Giovanni? This time, over matters of performance?”

“I think I have learned my lesson, master,” Giovanni drawled, even as he took long fingers into his mouth and groaned as Lorenzo curled a nail over the arch of his tongue.
