Bartolomeo roared with laughter as he waded into the battle, fierce joy on his rugged face. “Come, my friends!” to called to the guards, whose stand was wavering in the face of the well-known madman of Alviano. “I am not a jealous man, I will let my Bianca carry you all to death’s sweet embrace.”

He knew that others thought him insane. Even that cold-blooded assassin had all but sneered in pushing Bianca away with his sarcastic ‘charmed, I’m sure.’ Bartolomeo cared not. Let others call him mad. Let others waste their lives chasing coin, or women, or power, or wine.

He plunged Bianca deep into an unprotected chink in a guard’s armor with a satisfied grunt. Whatever others may think, no one and nothing else could make his blood sing with savage delight the way Bianca did. She was all he needed.

Doubtful. But he's a silly old bastard who deserves some spotlight in his own right. He's pretty cool if not ungodly handsome and/or mysterious like the rest of fandom.

Not to mention crazy hilarious amusing. XDDD

Any decently written character definitely deserves exploration. And there definitely is room to explore here, even if (as you say) he's not good looking or mysterious. When you think about it, a mercenary is someone who kills for money without any discrimination or morals as to his opponents so long as someone's willing to hire him. And looking at the term 'mercenary' as an adjective, it's come to carry a context of 'ruthless' and/or 'without loyalties'. You have to wonder what made him that way. What if, say, Bianca was the name of his beloved wife or something and he took up the sword after she dies, leaving him feeling like he had nothing left in the world to be loyal to?

And yeah, when I was watching my friend play, we totally fooled around on the mission to rescue him just to listen to him ranting at the guards ^_^
