(Anonymous) 2010-03-01 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)“Oh. Well, that – I was just in the area, and – It's just –”
Leonardo waited patiently, but Ezio could feel a bit of tense air rise from the artist. It gave him the feeling that the other man probably wasn't as patient today as he usually was.
“I was wondering if I could... er... speak with you...?” Ezio hated how unsure he sounded. He despised the way his voice lost its usual grand impact. He loathed the way his hold on perfect enunciation had slipped. It was awful.
The tense air he had previously felt from Leonardo was quickly replaced by a softening of features, a relaxation of facial muscles. Leonardo smiled, his eyes genuine. “Ah, so you have just come for a visit?” He straightened out his crumpled hat and placed it back atop his head. He then turned to wave towards the main space of his workshop. “Please, make yourself at home.”
Ezio strained not to gape at the sight.
The entire place was completely organized – the artist's usual mess of a home now the epitome of beauty. Leonardo's sketches that had once been strewn across the stone floor were now stacked up neatly in piles on his desk. Finished paintings were lined up next to each other, and in-progress pieces of art sat in rows on the somewhat empty side of the room. There were no stray splotches of paint to be found, all of Leonardo's art tools were in their rightful places, and – mio Dio! Were those lounging chairs over in the corner?
Leonardo was positively beaming at Ezio's amazement.
“It looks great! Did you do all of this by yourself, Leonardo?”
“Si. I worked all day until late last night.” Well, that (innocently) explained the (innocent) reason why the artist looked so (innocently) exhausted. Ezio felt sort of relieved.
Leonardo smiled once again at Ezio. “You may take a seat in one of the chairs, if you wish,” he added, when he took notice of the younger man's pointed gaze.
Ezio didn't need to be told twice. He practically dove over to one of the soft, cushiony seats, reveling in the pure bliss it induced once he laid down on it. He chose to ignore Leonardo's startled chuckle – the artist just didn't know how much Ezio loved lounging chairs. Seriously. They were like his most favorite thing in the entire world. Besides his family, violence, and whores, of course.
“So, Leonardo,” Ezio began, his eyes closing in relaxation as he began to feel more comfortable in the presence of the other man. “Did you do all of this for a specific reason, or did you just decide that you wanted to clean up?”
He could hear Leonardo going through a drawer on the other side of the room. “I suppose I did have a reason. I am expecting company in a few minutes.”
Ezio's eyes snapped open and he sat up immediately, staring in horror at Leonardo who seemed to be finished with looking through the drawer, and was now staring intently at a piece of paper on his desk. “What did you say?”
The artist stopped what he was doing, and lifted his sleepy gaze from the paper to meet Ezio's shocked stare. “I said that I am expecting company in a few minutes,” he repeated, the slow drawl of his voice casting a lazy spell over the room.
Ezio quickly stood up and brushed off non-existent dust from his pants. “Apologies, mio amico. I did not mean to intrude when you are having company over in a matter of minutes.”
Leonardo blinked a few times, a confused smile crossing his face. “But I wish for you to stay, Ezio. It would be for the best.” The artist paused for a moment, and stretched his smile into something more gentle. But his eyes betrayed the smile; they seemed to be glimmering with something almost... furious?
“The man who I am expecting for company is an extremely arrogant, incompetent, ass of an artist, and I am afraid if I am left alone with him for too long, I may either wring his disgusting, putrid neck with my bare hands, or punch his crooked nose back into his face,” Leonardo explained.

(Anonymous) 2010-03-01 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)And I can so see him saying that last line with a kind of scary smile. Artists are so wonderfully eloquent in their abuse of other artists. This is so entertaining!

(Anonymous) 2010-03-02 02:34 am (UTC)(link)Quickly, Leonardo folded up the paper he had been reading in his hands. He gave a cheesy grin to a dazed Ezio before he tossed the paper back into a drawer, and then proceeded to answer the door. Ezio saw the artist stiffen a bit before he opened it, taking in a deep breath and plastering another forced smile across his face. When Leonardo finally did open the door, his voice was strained and his posture was rigid.
“Michelangelo. How nice to see you again, my friend.”
“Leonardo. I wish I could say the same,” replied a gruff voice. There was a short pause, but when Leonardo spoke again, he carried on as if he hadn't heard the other man's jab.
“Please, come inside,” As Leonardo moved to the side to let Michelangelo in, Ezio analyzed him.
Michelangelo looked to be around Ezio's age, maybe a year or two older. Leonardo hadn't been lying about that crooked nose, apparently. Other than that minor flaw, the man had sharp, angular features that made him look severe and important. His hair was dark and curly, his eyes were brown and deeply set, and he seemed to be in better physical shape than both Ezio and Leonardo combined.
Ezio's train of thought was brutally assaulted though, when Michelangelo began to speak.
“And who is this?” the man questioned with a little less venom. His mouth was drawn into an almost permanent frown which made him kind of daunting as he stared down at Ezio.
“I am Ezio Auditore. It is a pleasure to meet you,” Ezio replied, smiling a little as he did so.
“Ezio, this is Michelangelo Buonarroti,” Leonardo cut in, introducing Michelangelo with haste. If Ezio weren't so awestruck by the serious boy, he would have been impressed by Leonardo's ability so say his name so quickly.
The other artist seemed irritated. “I am no child. I can answer for myself.”
“My apologies.” Leonardo sounded more numb than apologetic. He led Michelangelo further into the room, and gestured towards the lounging seats. “Now, if you would like to take a seat? I was hoping we could get to business right away.”
“Hmph. How unlike you, Leonardo. Usually you put things off until the very last minute. I am willing to bet a thousand florins that, judging by the dark bags under your eyes, you did not even begin to organize this poor excuse of a workshop until yesterday. Even though we have been planning my visit for a full month, you still are as much of a procrastinator as you'll ever be.”
Ezio was shocked and a little disgusted. Sure, Ezio got into all sorts of trouble, but he always paid due respect to those who demanded it. But this boy had no trouble whatsoever putting Leonardo down, despite the fact that Leonardo was older and much more experienced than he was. Ezio could tell that the artist was trying his best to remain calm and polite, but he knew that not even Leonardo could keep that up forever.
Leonardo flinched, but kept on smiling. “Ahaha, Michelangelo, you have always been such a... character.”
Michelangelo did not smile back at the artist, but did take a seat in one of the seats. He then flickered his gaze over to Ezio who shifted uncomfortably. What? It wasn't like Ezio was intimidated by the boy, or anything of the sort. Of course not.
“Despite your irritating habits, I must admit that your taste in friends is most acceptable, Leonardo,” Michelangelo commented, his frightening frown twisting momentarily upwards into a tiny smirk. “You must model for me some time, Messer Auditore. You have a very handsome face.”
Ezio was caught off guard (and maybe even a little unnerved) by that statement, but he offered a charming grin anyways. It didn't matter that Ezio disliked this boy. Once a flirt, always a flirt. “Grazie, but I do not think-”
“Well, then!” Leonardo said a little too loudly, clasping his hands together as he attempted to change the subject. “Is there anything I can get for you, Michelangelo? Some tea, perhaps?”
Michelangelo seemed vaguely amused, but his coldness towards Leonardo remained. “I can do without anything you have to offer.”
