Fluffy AltMal [2/?]

(Anonymous) 2010-11-18 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
“He will be fine. He is young, yet.” There was no response. Malik only sighed. Altair paused for a moment. He slowly walked over to Malik and rested a hand on his shoulder, feeling the tension there. “What is wrong brother?”
“I am just tired Altair.”
“Something troubles you?” Altair’s gaze immediately darkened. Malik looked up and shook his head, resting his hand on Altair’s.
“No, nothing like that. I just miss… certain things from before. Helping out the novices that come by has its rewards, to be sure, but I cannot help but feel trapped here…” Malik’s hand moved to clutch at the empty sleeve on his left, and Altair felt the guilt twinge inside him, as painful as before.
“Malik… I…” Malik stood suddenly.
“Don’t apologize again. We’ve gone past this point,” Malik reached up to cup Altair’s cheek. “… far past. It is okay, I will get over it soon enough.” With that, the touch was gone, and Malik was getting ready to sleep. Altair was at a loss, unsure of how to comfort the other man. He looked down at his hands, then through the doorway out to the main part of the bureau, searching for an answer. Then, it hit him. Altair was so struck by the brilliant idea he could barely restrain the jerk of his body towards Malik. Instead, he coughed into his hand, trying to regain his composure.
“Malik, come with me.” Altair grasped his hand.
“What is this, Altair? It is late and I wish to sleep off my mood.” Malik grunted, tugging at his hand, but Altair held it firmly.
“Come, I have a solution. Just trust me,” Altair pleaded. Something in his voice must have reached Malik because the other man looked up and sighed.
“Very well. Lead the way, Altair,” Malik mumbled. Altair smiled, trying not to let his nerves show through.
‘Hope this works.’
They walked out of the room, making sure to tiptoe past the soundly sleeping novice. Malik looked dubiously up at the entrance, but Altair sprinted up the wall first, turning and holding his arm down for Malik. Malik sighed, and then ran up the wall, going as far as he could and reaching out his arm. Altair caught it and pulled Malik up easily. Altair blinked. The rafiq had lost some weight. He frowned, blaming it on the stress, but did not say anything. The moon shone bright in the sky, illuminating Malik’s face. He took a breath of the cooler night air and gazed at the stars. His lips twitched into the barest hint of a smile.
Altair turned and began running over the roofs towards his destination. He heard Malik follow closely behind and grinned. The wind picked at their clothes and filled their lungs. Their feet touched the ground for a beat, and then they were propelled once more through the air, only their shadows giving chase.
