The Brave tale of Sir Ezio 1/

(Anonymous) 2011-01-23 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
There was only one reason Ezio hated walking through the streets of Venezia. Otherwise, he was perfectly fine with the famous, canal filled city. As he wound his way toward Leonardo da Vinci's workshop, however, he found that single reason to be following him. What made it worse was that there was more than one of them.

"Bravely bold, Sir Ezio road forth from Venezia!" One minstrel shrieked at the top of his voice, while three others chased after with flutes and lutes ringing at full blast. "He was not afraid to die, O brave Sir Ezio!"

Ezio hunched his shoulders and pretended to ignore them. He sincerely hoped the guards didn't take interest. Although, with as loud as the man was singing (if that's what he called the shrieks spewing from his throat), it was a tiny hope.

"He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways. Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Ezio!" The minstrel continued. He skipped around the furious assassin, his feet light and face bright with song. Behind him one of the minstrels clapped in what was supposed to be in tune but sounded more mocking than anything. "He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp."

Ezio's eyes widened slightly. He glanced at the minstrels over his shoulder. Who said anything about being mashed, he wondered. Anger only growing, he turned and walked ever faster.

"Or to have his eyes gouged out and his elbows broken!" The minstrel chirped, looking proudly at the assassin. "To have his kneecaps split and his body burned away."

A shiver rolled through Ezio's system. He most certainly didn't want anything like that. Ever. He started to move faster. "Stop it!" He shot over his shoulder.

The minstrels were not to be deterred. They only followed him, not at all put off at the increase in speed. As far as they were concerned, the assassin hadn't pushed them into the canals or kicked them into a haystack, therefore they were happy.

"And his limbs all hacked and his heart cut out," the minstrel continued, his beat picking up into a morbidly happy tune. "And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged!"

"Shut up!" Ezio snapped, trying, in vain to get away from the grim, singing demons.

"And his nostrils raped and his bottom burnt off and his penis--"

The minstrels stopped abruptly. Ezio had turned sharply around a corner and instantly halted. Three, furious looking guards stood in his way. They blinked before leaning forward.

"Who are you?" They asked, in a strange sort of unison.
"He is brave Sir Ezio, brave Sir Ezio," the minstrel pressed forward, the other's starting the instruments back up.

"Shut it!" Ezio hissed. He looked back to the guards and shook his head. "Uh, no one. No one at all," he said, waving his hands lamely.

"What do you want?" They pressed, leaning forward still.

"To fight!" The minstrel sang gloriously.

"Shut up!" Ezio snapped, motioning them to move away. He looked back to the guards, giving them an awkward smile. "Nothing really. Just passing through, good guards of Venezia."

The guards looked at each other, silent communication passing between them. They looked back at Ezio and shook their heads.

"I'm afraid not," the one on the left said.

"You see, this is our bit of Venezia. We're here to protect it," the one in the middle explained.

Ezio blinked. He wasn't quite sure why he hadn't considered just taking to the roofs. Maybe he was trying to prove to Leonardo that he could easily walk the streets of Venezia without having to seriously injure someone. Or maybe he was just trying to prove it to himself. Either way, he hadn't gone his normal route and now he was paying for it.

"But, I am on my way to see Maestro da Vinci," he said, sounding nervous.

The guards blinked, each showing an expression of shock. "You're off to see Maestro da Vinci?" They asked.

Ezio nodded. "I am."

"Shit," said the head on the right.

"Right, well, now we'll have to kill you," the left guard said.

"Shall I?" Asked the guard to the right.

"Oh, I don't think so," the middle guard whined.

"I'm not sure,"right guard said slowly.

"How about my self?" The left guard offered.
The two other guards paused and then shook their heads.

While they bickered, Ezio glanced back over his shoulder. He looked back and forth between the guards and minstrels. He was clearly weighing his options. Just one of the guard's made a particularly rude comment about the other guard's breath, Ezio made his choice. He turned and shoved through the minstrels. In a second he was around the corner and hurrying away from the three guards.

"Right, right, we'll all kill him," the guards agreed. They turned and looked back at where Ezio had been.

"Oi, where did he go?" One asked, looking upset.

"He's buggered off," another said.

"He has. Quite scampered, hasn't he?" The first one continued.

"This is all your fault," the last one sighed.

Ezio was practically running through the streets of Venezia but the minstrels were still following him. Honestly, the simple fact that they could keep up made his respect grow just slightly.

"Brave Sir Ezio ran away," the minstrel sang as the other's struggled to keep their instruments going. "Bravely ran away, away."

"No!" Ezio replied, hurrying over a bridge. "I didn't!"

The minstrel danced and skipped around him, still singing and clapping. "When danger reared it's ugly head, he bravely turned his tail and fled."

"Stop it! I did not!" Ezio shrieked while the man sang. He was not a coward! No matter what some tights-wearing, singing street fool said. "Shut up!"

"Yes, brave Sir Ezio turned about and gallantly he chickened out," the minstrel continued, following him through the crowded market. Many innocent bystanders were turning to watched. The infamous Venezia ghost was racing away from a group of cheerful minstrels.

"I didn't!" Ezio whined, skirting a particularly crowded stall. He just really wanted to get to Leonardo's.

"Bravely taking to his feet, he beat a brave retreat."

"Shut up! You need to quit!" He complained, still making his way through the streets. He wanted to get away from these people. It was a little unclear if the song was meant to mock or encourage. Either way, it followed Ezio all the way to Leonardo's workshop.

"Bravest of the brave, Sir Ezio!"
