(Anonymous) 2010-12-02 02:09 am (UTC)(link)The Papal guard stiffens, hands loosening a fraction, the mere inches offering more than leaps and bounds. Leonardo rips free, clothing lopsided, face red and eyes damp as he stumbles out of the shadows and to the entryway, hair a tangled, matted mess of sweat, blood, leaves, and no few stray tears.
“C-Caterina!!”
Luciana’s quiet victory over successfully marking her target’s pouch disappears like wisps of smoke into the wind when Leonardo tumbles into sight, his ravaged, frightened features and tripping hands trying to right his shirt and pants causes a firey rage to roar within her gut.
She steps forward, eyes burning like lasers as she glares over his shoulder at the Papal guard following not too far behind the flustered engineer.
Leonardo stops her before she can cause a scene, snatching her hand in between his, offering a weak smile, “Shall we depart, my dear?” He squeezes tight to forestall her bitter words, the young woman looking ready to try and steal the guard’s very pistol and fire a bullet into his evil, poisonous heart.
Luciana’s features promise that she will not so easily push aside what has transpired outside her line of sight. With stiff formality, she bids farewell to the Papal guards who follow until they have taken to their saddles and mounted the horses. Leonardo’s black steed glares in hate at the guards, and the engineer cannot say that he wouldn’t feel a stab of pleasure if the beast were to happen to kick and injure one or two.
“Do not pass out on me, Leonardo.” Luciana hisses, her voice fading and echoing over the blackness that edges his vision. Leonardo jolts in his seat, realizing that he has been swaying forward and back at an alarming angle, Luciana bringing her horse to walk shoulder to shoulder with his.
“S…Si…”
They pass over the bridge without a scene, never mind the scant traces of blood that has dried and ruined their dressy attire. Leonardo’s mind moves in a fog as his horse instinctively follows Luciana’s ― So close, too close, promised pain and ridicule and Dio Mio it has been far too long since I have felt so alone and afraid ― the young woman’s patient and expert hand leading them far away from the district and into the tight corridors of the inner city walkways.
Luciana coos softly to her gentle giant, leading the horses into the stable. Her horse tosses its head and whickers, butting the young woman before Luciana lightly but with firm resolve pushes to horse over to a large mound of hay to feed. Leonardo’s eagerly rushes forward to dine, causing the engineer to dangerously topple from his seat in mid-drop before he manages to right himself and succeed and getting off the wily creature.
La Volpe melts out of the nighttime street, immediately glued to their sides, “What has happened?” He demands, violet eyes counting every trace of blood or injury.
“Our mission was a success.” Luciana informs him hollowly, looking to Leonardo. Here, the older man numbly shakes his head in agreement.
“I do not give a damn about the mission,” The master thief’s fury causes both man and woman to jolt, “The pieces of an unproductive mission can be swept up and glued back together. I want to know what has put such fear into your eyes!”
