Anon just arrived in Venice in AC2 and watched that adorable 'Would you buy my this wooden statue, I forgot my money. Pretty please?' '...ohfine. *reaches for wallet*' scene between Leo and Ezio.

I'd like a little twist on that. AU, can be modern if WriterAnon wishes it to be. Anyway, Ezio is going on a date with Leonardo, all fluffy and buying him things and being a sweet boyfriend.

Meanwhile, cousin Altair and his boyfriend Malik are not that far away and watch with Malik going 'Who in the world treats their boyfriend that mushy and spoils them rotten?'. And Altair, who watched Ezio and just bought something nice from a stall for Malik, goes '...hahaha, about that...'

I'd either like Altair to take a book out of Ezio's book and hand over his present after all or dump it on some innocent by-stander.

tl;dr Ezio and Leonardo are a mushy couple, Malik thinks that their sweetness is surreal and Altair tries to get Malik to see that having an affectionate relationship isn't that surreal after all.

the gift of giving [1/1]

I.

“Did they just get attached?” Malik asked quietly.

Altaïr thought back briefly over the past few months. He hadn’t been corresponding very much with his distant cousin once they had both started working, up until recently when he had asked if Ezio would be able to put up with Altaïr and Malik for their holiday to Italy and had received an enthusiastic avalanche of responses in return. Ezio had only recently mentioned meeting an ‘angel’ in an art museum, so… “I think it has been three weeks.”

“Tch.” Malik eyed the pair in question from the doorway of the shop.

Leonardo was trying on a red scarf, blushing as Ezio used compliments as an excuse to keep touching him, and the female shop assistants cooed over them both. Eventually, despite Leonardo’s protests and attempts to offer a credit card, Ezio managed to pay for all the purchases with the connivance of the shop assistants, and they tumbled back onto the street, Leonardo making only a halfhearted attempt to pull away as Altaïr’s cousin pressed kisses to his trim jaw.

“I think you wanted to go to Zegna?” Ezio purred, with eyes only for his lover.

“Oh no, every time we go to Zegna you buy me something, I can’t possibly,” Leonardo shook his head, even as Ezio curled an arm around his waist and propelled him forward.

“Only because you look so good in their shirts, caro mio.”

Behind their back, Malik rolled his eyes as the pair disappeared into the next shop on the Via de’ Tornabuoni. “Perhaps it is an Italian thing.”

“What is?”

“That ridiculous attitude.” Malik peered through the arched window into the store, which seemed to be selling cakes and chocolates. This time, Leonardo was having somewhat more success in preventing his boyfriend from buying him something, though Malik shot the array of chocolates a lingering stare. “Treating another man like a princess. Perhaps your cousin is better suited to courting young girls.”

“Leonardo seems to be enjoying the attention.”

“Pah. I am sure that he is only humoring your cousin,” Malik said dismissively. “Who in the world could endure such saccharine sap?”

“I do not think he is only humoring Ezio.” In the shop, Ezio looked dangerously close to stealing a kiss, perhaps much to the delight of the other customers, who were mostly women. “They are both in love. It is normal.”

Malik eyed him with some irritation. “Hardly. You don’t see us presenting such a disgusting display of public affection, do you?”

“Well,” Altaïr coughed, “About that-”

“What?” Malik glared back at the shop, then at Altaïr, who hastily schooled his expression. “It is a good thing that you are far more sensible than your cousin. I would hate to have to punch you in public.”

“For buying you things?”

“I can buy myself things.” Malik stalked away to the next store on the street, a bookshop. “Get me when those two have finished cooing over each other like idiotic pigeons.”

Altaïr sighed, fishing in his pockets and taking out the small wrapped box of chocolates from DeBondt, picking regretfully at the ribbon, then offering it to a little girl who emerged from the chocolate store. “Here you go, signorina. I think you will appreciate it more than the person I bought this for.”

The young girl stared owlishly at him, then hurried quickly away, turning back only at a safe distance to raise her voice slightly over the traffic. “Madre told me not to take sweets from strangers!”

Perhaps they should have chosen to visit Paris instead…

-fin, shortfill, hope you liked!-

I adore how Malik is still implying that they are in love too. b'aw, but Altair, maybe next time.

And thank you, writer! You've certainly made my night, though I secretly hope for a continuation where Altair does do a very tiny small display of affection for Malik, hee.

OP is so delighted and eeeeh! <33333333333333 *sends loads of love* This is even better than I hoped it would be! I think I just got cavities by reading the Ezio/Leo parts and Malik was so deliciously... Malik.

And the ending made me giggle so hard. Poor Altair, even kids don't appreciate the things he buys.

Thank you so much for filling, WriterAnon! You've made my week!

That is unbelievably cute. I adore how you wrote both pairings and I wanted to hug Altaïr at the end.

Altair leant against the wall of the little shop and checked his watch again. What was taking them so long? He looked around and finally found his cousin standing in line in front of the cashier. His longterm-boyfriend/fiancé/clingy-puppy Leonardo was right beside him, clutching a wooden doll of some sort with one hand while the other was held by Ezio. He chattered happily, his face lit up like the sun itself as he beamed at Ezio.
Ezio looked at him and a soft, sweet smile graced his lips.
Altair had never been one for overly open displays of affection and decided to go and get Malik - his boyfriend, although definetely not clingy and not very puppy-like. They were finally leaving that little hole in the wall that dared to call itself a shop for art supplies.

He found him minutes later, already outside, drinking from a soda can.
"The lovebirds finished?"
"I guess so," Altair replied.
Ezio and Leonardo walked out of the door, holding hands and gazing into each other´s eyes. How they didn´t trip over anything or run into anybody was a mystery to Altair. Leonardo held a small bag in his hand. He stopped, faced Ezio, smiled and said something.
"Ezio, thank you so much for the mannequin! It was so stupid of me to leave my wallet at home, I will pay you back, of course."
"Absolutely not," Ezio replied, "It was a gift for my carissimo leonino."
Leonardo blushed. Altair didn´t think that people really did that outside of cheap romance novels.
"I can´t accept...you spoil me so!"
"You deserve the best, and I will do anything to give you what you deserve."
"Oh Ezio!"
Leonardo rose on tiptoes and gave Ezio a brief, fleeting kiss on the cheek. Ezio cupped Leonardo´s cheek, carefully carded his hair back with the other before he leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on Leonardo´s lips. Leonardo´s eyes fluttered close. He placed his hand over Ezio´s.
They parted, laced their fingers together and walked slowly away, whispering adoring words of love to each other.

"Can you believe that?" Malik said, "all this lovey-dovey sweetness? It´s ridiculous!"
Altair did think it a bit ridiculous and embarrassing, along with several people in the vicinity, but he couldn´t help but to admire and envy Ezio and Leonardo. Yes, they were overly affectionate - Ezio in his best moments bordering on indecency - but they looked so happy and they didn´t care at all what the other people thought.
Altair tried to picture himself and Malik in their place.
Malik didn´t thread his arm through his when they walked somewhere.
He didn´t play with Malik´s hair.
They didn´t kis in public, never bought gifts for each other just because, they always needed a reason, a birthday, etc.
He couldn´t help but to want to be just a little bit more like Ezio.

And not just Ezio, it seemed that the whole Auditore branch suffered from this ...this sweetness.
Giovanni Auditore, Ezio´s father, had presented his wife with two dozen of red roses, a smile and dinner reservations at one of the best restaurants in town - with no reason. No forgotten birthday, no forgotten anniversary, nothing to apologize for - just because he loved is wife to death.
And Ezio´s brother - he was even worse!
Apparently this ran in the family. Auditore genepool - great hair, perfect smiles and a disposition for mushiness.

"It...it works for them. They just...fit together, don´t they?"
"Oh, they do, I think they deserve each other..in every way."
"You awful, awful man."
"You love me for it."
"Yes, you know I do."
Malik grinned.
"I still need a souvenir for Kadar, you coming?"
Altair nodded and followed him. He watched Malik´s hand swing back and forth as he walked. His fingers itched to reach out and grab it.
They entered one of the souvenir shops. Malik looked at tiny replicas of the colosseum, the statue of david and the leaning tower. Altair looked bored out of the window, as he spotted Ezio and Leonardo again. They walked to a bench and sat down. Ezio immediately reached for Leonardo´s hands and clasped them within his own. He gazed into Leonardo´s eyes and said something. Altair couldn´t hear a thing, but he could imagine what was being said.

"Again?" Malik asked. He had walked up behind Altair. Altair could almost feel Malik´s body on his, as Malik peered over his shoulder. Ezio pulled out a flat box and gave it to Leonardo. Carefully, Leonardo opened it. His face lit up and he stared at Ezio. He threw his arms around his neck and buried his head against Ezio´s chest.
"Who in the world treats their boyfriend that mushy and spoils them rotten?" Malik asked disbelievingly.
"Well, Ezio does."
"Isn´t it ridiculous?"
Altair sighed and steeled himself. He turned around and hastly pressed a box into Malik´s hands. "Is this ridiculous?" he asked defiantly.
Malik looked silently at the box and then at him.
"What´s the meaning of this?"
"It´s a gift."
"Yes, but why?"
"I love you, that is reason enough."
Malik tore off the paper and a small smile stole onto his face.
"You are incorrigible."
"I know."
"I love you."
"I know."
"I still think this is ridiculous, in a way."
"But you like it?"
"Yes...yes, I do."
Altair smiled. Malik reached for his hand and held it in his.
"You...you want us to be more like them?"
"No...yes....just a tiny bit. More hand-holding would be nice."
"If I get enough persuasion I think that can be arranged."
They left the shop hand in hand.

Ezio and Leonardo still sat on the bench. Ezio kissed Leonardo´s hand gracefully and whispered "I love you"s to the fingers.
"Leonardo, what was that thing you gave Altair earlier?" he asked after some time.
Leonardo looked positively mischievous.
"Just a little something that will get them off our backs for a while."
"You evil, evil man."
"You love me for it."
"Absolutely."

I'm glad this fill turned out better for our poor Altair :3 I got to read them both in a row so I just saw it as a continuation of utter tooth rotting sugar coated fluff from E/L and Altair and Malik being... well Altair and Malik XD
