(Anonymous) 2011-03-30 09:26 am (UTC)(link)“Hm, maybe Desmond really did need some 'alone time' and Shaun decided to 'help'.”
“Becca-”
“Desmond's been talking to Shaun a lot lately...hmmmm, maybe he likes him, I swear when they get into those little fights, I keep thinkin' they look like an old married couple. You have some competition there!”
“Rebecca Crane!”
“Woah, using my full name, okay, I get it. Geez... but really, according to the tracker we have on Shaun, he's with Desmond, they're walking around-”
“To Shaun and Desmond's knowledge, he can only be outside for 10 minutes at a time-”
“He needs a little time to relax. Just make up something about how we are going to have to shut down an Abstergo satellite and make him feel guilty, he won't do it again. No big deal.”
“...I don't think he should be hanging out with Shaun this much, specially since Shaun isn't in on the plan. We cannot control what happens with him, and we need to have full control of what Desmond does.”
“...Hmmmmm, I dunno, you sound jealous!
“...”
“...Are you jealous?”
“...”
“Lucy...”
“...Of course not. I think Desmond is a nice guy, but you know I don't really like him like that. I had to get him to like me, and it was easier to get him to help us that way.”
“You keep saying that but... Lucy, you can't jeopardize the mission with this. I like Desmond too, he's a cool guy but this is more important. Not to mention how many people have worked so hard to get this going, one little screw up could mess everything up!”
“...”
“Lucy...Lucy you can't feel like this. You can't start feeling guilty, you said you could handle it.”
“...”
“...if you can't handle this Lucy, I'm going to have to contact William. I love you, you're my best friend and we've been through a lot together, but I gave up a lot for this cause, and if you mess up-”
“I know!”
“...”
“... I know...”

Shaun found himself reeling. Desmond wouldn't make something like this up... he was a fucking annoying bastard but he would never, in a million years-
“-the e-mail said that you were out of the loop so, and that they wanted to keep it that way, whoever 'they' are... Shaun....Shaun?”
His eyes snapped open when he felt Desmond's hand on his shoulders, looking at him with worry. Shit, no wonder Desmond had reacted like he did.
Shit. Shaun had no trouble believing Desmond, it wasn't something that it was unlikely to happen. The Assassins were just as insane as the Templars sometimes, and some of the things they did were just as terrible, no matter how they tried to justify it. Like hooking up 25 year olds to a machine that was slowly driving them crazy.
“Desmond... are you sure? I mean, not that I don't believe you but are you sure you didn't misunderstand it?”
“I read it a couple of times thinking I did, but... it... it said all that and...shit, Shaun... how... how much did they plan? How much of my life is lie?”
Shaun looked sadly at Desmond, feeling useless. The assassin smiled sadly at him before speaking.
“We should go back... Lucy might come looking for us.”
“Yeah... you're right.... Desmond, listen,” he paused with a grunt as he got up. “You should give me Lucy's password so I can look at that e-mail and track it down. I should be able to find out who sent it, and how far all this goes.”
“You think they can see what we look up on the computer?”
“I doubt it, they would have seen you looking at her e-mail. There's that at least, they are giving you some freedom at least... “ he smirked at the assassin before continuing, “Hm, you can go back to looking at porn on your spare time.”
“Funny.” Desmond smiled at him.
“I try.” he smirked back. “Oh, I guess I should ask... how did you get her password?” Shaun was honestly curious, Desmond did not look like someone who knew how to hack into people's e-mails, hell, he didn't even look like the type of person to invade into people's privacy like that. But then again, he had gone through Lucy's e-mail (maybe even Becca's).
“Someone sent it to me... I don't know if you know this person...Erudito or something like that. They told me to 'stay in the loop' and sent me all of your passwords. You think he is trying to help me?”
“It wouldn't be too far off... you have my password?”
“Um... yeah.”
Dogs 5/?
(Anonymous) 2011-03-30 09:28 am (UTC)(link)“Of course not, why would I want to read your e-mail, it's probably just really boring stuff. Come on, let's go.” he finished in a rush before running towards the Sanctuary.
“...”

When Lucy smiled at him as he walked back in, it took everything in him to not scream at her. Instead, Desmond smiled back and apologized for taking so long, and when questioned about the headset, he tried to look embarrassed, which became semi real when Becca butted in with 'did Shaun help you out?'. Said man went straight to his work bench to work, and yelled at them to be quiet and act like adults. And as they all laughed (minus Shaun), Desmond felt sick to his stomach with the knowledge that this, all of this playful banter and teasing was fake.
–
Reading the e-mail made everything real, the fact that they lied to Desmond, and how Shaun was out of the loop in all of this, and how the Assassins could be just as terrible as the Templars was just... he really didn't know how to feel about this. Part of him was angry at being lied to all this time, and wondered how much of his planning on breaking Desmond out of Abstergo had been real, if they already had a way out, and just right out played with him. The other part was furious for Desmond, not believing that they would do that to him, letting him get captured and pretending that they couldn't break him out was just... and like Desmond had said, how much had they planned? Had his entire life been a life? Who the fuck planned this?
He was going to find out though, find out who sent out this e-mail, find out how the teams were actually doing, instead of all these fake reports he received from William.
Find out how much of his and Desmond's lives have been lie.

I felt like you should know that Lucy is been feeling a little guilty over the Desmond thing. She is still fully aware that we cannot afford to make mistakes, and she knows this. I'm sure she won't compromise the mission, but I wanted you to know. Don't go bugging her about this boss man, I'll keep her in check.

Although she wasn't proud of deceiving Desmond, Rebecca Crane understood why it had to be done. She liked him, he was fun and a cool guy to talk to. Hell, if it wasn't for this situation, she would be all over the guy! Especially now, tattoos are fucking hot! But she saw the ends justified the means, and that this was necessary for everyone's good. Desmond never had to find out, no one did. In the end, everything would work like it had to... well if they managed to save the world from blowing up.
But one thing that bugged her more than she ever thought could, was lying to Shaun. When she had rescued him, she did it because... well because he looked helpless and needed help, really. She had been the one that suggested to keep him around, especially after the amazing hack job he did. He was a ...not a fun person, but he was her friend, and she cared about him, and the fact that she had to lie to him for so long, made her feel ashamed of herself. And now being ask to watch him, like they were expecting him to betray them out of nowhere?
She was starting to see why Lucy was so conflicted. Lying to someone you cared about wasn't fun at all.

The only way Shaun and Desmond could communicate in privacy was through e-mail, but it wasn't hard to see that both of them were getting frustrated with their situation. Lucy and Becca seemed to write it off as exhausting, Desmond always being in the Animus, and Shaun... being Shaun. Becca made a joke about 'sexual tension' and winked, and Desmond rolled his eyes and said that while Shaun was good looking, he was more into someone who knew how to have fun. Becca smirked and got close to Desmond, saying that she was lots of fun, resulting in Lucy telling everyone to get back to work.
Dogs 6/?
(Anonymous) 2011-03-30 10:02 am (UTC)(link)Shaun had never felt so betrayed in his life. Becca had saved him, for fuck's sake... she got him into the Assassins, they've known each other for years, worked together, went out drinking together... they were friends... right?
It hurt. It hurt a lot.
And with Desmond, he would look at him as if asking if he had found out anything else, and watching his eyes drop every time he shook his head, was terrible. By God, Shaun was trying, and he was close, so very close, but this was a slow process, and not to mention dangerous. He didn't have a backup team just in case he messed up, if messed up, they would come and kill him. And Desmond? Who knows what they'll do to him...
At night, instead of working on the database, and if he didn't need to provide backup for anyone else, he would look around, trying to find everything about the plan they had with Desmond. He figured it would be easier, he had full access to their network, but there were things that were hidden, and it was hard to hack into, especially since Rebecca had worked on it. The woman was good at what she did, but knowing her for so long, he knew some of her tricks, and he was confident that he pass it. It worse comes to worse, he could hack her computer and look around.
In the end though, it turned out he didn't need to do that. He received an e-mail with detailed instructions on how to hack into the Assassin's network. From a person calling themselves 'Erudito'.
–
Desmond felt like someone was looking at him, he could feel eyes burning holes on his back. Turning around, he made eye contact with Shaun who nodded at him once before standing up.
“I'm going outside for a bit.”
“Wow, taking a break from work!? It's a Christmas miracle!”
“Shut it, Crane.”
Becca stuck her tongue out at Shaun, who simply rolled his eyes before looking at Desmond again, before walking out. Okay, he got the hint already, geez...
He waited a full five minutes before getting up.
“I'm going to go running if that's okay.”
“Sure.”
“Oooohhhh going after Shaun, eh?”
“Becca, please.”
–
Desmond walked around the building towards the practice ring, where Shaun was waiting for him. The moment Desmond turned off his headset, Shaun being talking.
“I found out who was behind all this.” He looked at Desmond as he said it, watching his face for a reaction. He looked scared and betrayed already, like he knew who it was already. Shaun sighed. Desmond knew... he probably had known all along.
“Just tell me Shaun.”
“It was the compound you grew up in. They had found some of Ezio's notes, about a message to someone from another time with the name 'Desmond', they kept quiet about it. And when they learned that Abstergo was making the Animus... they let a lot of people get captured, hoping they could go through Ezio's memories and see that moment. You were selected because of your name, and I guess they traced back your bloodline, and saw that your family was from Ezio's branch. It was a long shot, but they went with it. The notes said that they became extremely hard on you during training, not just to prepare you but to drive you away...Desmond, they... they planned your escape from the compound. All of it.”
Shaun waited for Desmond to freak out, to scream and yell, and maybe even cry like he did last time, but instead, he stared back at Shaun, like he had known all along. He probably had, to some degree, the thought had to be in his head for quite some time now, and thinking about it probably made it obvious. Shaun found himself wishing for a freak out, at least that would be a normal reaction, instead of the empty stare Desmond had.
Dogs 7/?
(Anonymous) 2011-03-30 10:03 am (UTC)(link)“Shaun...” he finally spoke up, his voice coming out shallow and empty, it was terrifying. “I... do you know... do you know if...”
“What Desmond, what is it?”
“If... my parents were in it? Did it say?” Shaun couldn't keep the look of despair off his face when Desmond's voice broke at the end of his question. “Shaun... I need to know.”
“I don't know... it didn't say. Desmond... don't... don't let this consume you, we need to stay focused. Need to figure out what we are going to do.”
“What can we do? We're trapped, Shaun! They're not watching now, but the could be later! I-I don't... shit!”
Desmond walked away suddenly, walked down the stairs towards the shops with Shaun running after him. The assassin leaned over one of the shops, pressing his body on the wall, a small grunt of frustration breaking out. Shaun knew how he felt, all he wanted to do was scream at someone, mainly Lucy and Becca.
“Desmond, listen to me, alright?” he placed his hand on the other man's shoulder to push him off the wall and look at him. Desmond started at his feet, lips trembling, and hugging himself, probably trying to keep it together. “There's obviously someone trying to contact us. This 'Erudito' person seems to be on our side, and I saw that not all assassins know about this plan, so there has to be others who are willing to help us. We just need to find them. But for now, we need to play nice.”
“How can I do that, Shaun? I just can't... pretend that I'm fine. Lucy is willing to fuck me up, she doesn't care about what happens to me, my parents were probably on it, I know it... they let them do this to me. Use me like this... I just... how can I do this, knowing that there's no one I can trust? No one who actually cares about what happens to me.”
“I care. And I won't let them use you...use us, anymore. Trust me.”
Desmond stared back at Shaun, feeling like his heart was going to burst out of his chest. He was fairly sure it had nothing to do with the shock of what he just found out.
They stood there, awkwardly for a few moments, before Shaun gathered enough courage to bring one of his hands up to Desmond's arm. He could feel the man shaking under his hand, could hear his breaking coming faster now. Enough time passed that Shaun started to believe that he was reading this wrong, and just as he was about to longer his hand, and apologize, Desmond suddenly wrapped his arms around him, resting his head on his shoulder. Shaun wasted no time in hugging the other man back, one of his hands gripping his hair to push his head back, to kiss his forehead before pulling back to look at him.
“I promise I'll get us out of here.”
“I-I know. I believe you.”
Shaun smiled sadly at him, before leaving forward to kiss him softly before pulling back.
“You can do this.”
Desmond smiled at him as he said, “Yeah... we can do this.”

“He says that since we are so close to the Apple, we should stick it out and help them find it. And when we do, well, then we can figure out how to take it with us.”
“...but stay here? With the people who are tracking down everything I do?” To his credit, Desmond was taking this way better than Shaun thought he would. At least he wasn't yelling or throwing a fit.
“Desmond, I know you're frustrated. I am too, I mean, bloody hell Desmond, I'm working for people who are making me do research that most likely won't even be used.”
“I know, but... this is driving me nuts, man... I want out of here.”
Shaun sighed as he got up, walking up to Desmond who was sitting on his sleeping bag. The girls went to get supplies a few minutes ago, giving them an hour to talk and plan, although they really had nothing to plan, not until Erudito or someone else contacted them.
He sat down next to Desmond, who jumped a little when he noticed that the other man was next to him now. He chuckled softly before leaning back on Shaun and making himself comfortable. Shaun rolled his eyes, but wrapped his arms around him anyway.
“Hang in there.”

Desmond wasn't sure if he was happy, upset, or even angry at the new e-mail Lucy received from this William person.
-just because of feelings you may or may not have.
Part of him was happy because this meant Lucy did care about him, but most of him was angry, furious even, that even if she cared about him, Lucy still lied to him. And this William person... who the fuck did he think he was, telling people to ignore their feelings and controlling people like that. Desmond tried to remember the people from the farm, trying to remember if he had met a 'William', but coming out blank. Not to surprising, a lot of the people used fake names around each other (paranoid bastards), even his parents had to the point that Desmond really was not sure if he really knew their real names.
The very thought was upsetting, and it had been one of the reasons why Desmond had ran away, feeling like his parents had never been to close to him. He was pained to admit that he knew nothing about them, besides the fact that his father went out on assignments (which he would sometimes forget it meant 'assassinations'), and that his mother had a problem with her leg, and did not do missions but instead, provided back up, usually for his father. It was depressing to know that this was all he knew of his own family. There was no way for him to even try to figure out if his family was in on his running away plan, and he knew he should let it go and concentrate on what was going on now, but the fact that his parents could have been planning this since he was a kid?
He should really stop thinking about it.
Dogs 9/?
(Anonymous) 2011-04-15 12:23 am (UTC)(link)Even with a whole team willing to help, Desmond couldn't help but feel like something was going to go wrong. He really hoped he was right.
-
It was insane. When she first had been assigned to this, Lucy knew, was so sure that she could do it. Pretend to be in danger, have Warren save her, play nice and when the time came, befriend Desmond, flirt a bit... she was so confident that she could do it. And now that they had found the Apple, watching Desmond jump on the platforms, remembering his smile, and the way her heart fluttered when he said her name... that was not supposed to happen. They told her not to get attached, and she had promised that she would complete this mission without a hitch. Had assured everyone that her relationship with Desmond would be a one sided thing, and that she would maintain control at all times.
It was ironic. Desmond had a little thing for her at first, but now all his attention was on Shaun. She wasn't stupid, she saw the looks they gave each other, or the way Shaun got up at night and go lay down next to the other man, hear them talking and laughing together... No, Desmond had not fallen for Lucy like they had planned.
But she had fallen for him.
And watching Desmond as he activated the stairs so they could reach the Apple, Lucy realized that this mission, all this laying and deceiving was pointless. Because she knew Desmond, knew what an amazing person he was and how he would want to help. There was no need to build him into this messiah the worked so hard to create.
No more lies.
She was going to tell him the truth. She was going to confess, tell him about the plan and the lies, and if he hated her after wards, so be it. He deserved to know the truth and want to help because he wanted to help, not because he felt obligated. Lucy would get him out of this. And no one would get in the way, not the Order, not William, not even Becca.
Her resolve was strong as she watched Desmond pick up the Apple, and then suddenly, everything went black and cold.
-
She used you. We're just getting her out of the way
No no no no no Lucy, stop it!
Do your part-
Don't make me do this! You're right, she tried me, she fucking used me but.. I... she's my friend and I don't want- don't you dare-
-without the ones who betrayed our will.
Lucy I'm sorry I'm so sorry-
…
It is done.
