They're actually Golden Eagle wings. I haven't specified, but I will soon. Malik's getting over his overreaction to the wings and he'll be interested in studying them soon enough.

The room was in chaos as the sudden awakening of Desmond caused all of the alarms on the machines around the Animus to go haywire. Desmond himself was panting and felt as if he had just been swallowed by the darkness within the temple himself. Due to the bleeding effect and his sudden extraction from the Animus he still felt the unusual sensation of fear as it coursed through the ancient assassin's body. When the feeling had finally dissipated the machines had calmed down enough for the people manning the machines to allow some worry for the man attached to them.
“What happened? Why did I desynchronize so abruptly?”
“I would assume that either Altair was killed or that is the last memory of him,” replied Rebecca from at the computer. “Either way I will investigate it further, for now why don't you practice what you learned?”
Desmond nodded in reply then headed to the training area in the warehouse. With only a few mistakes he was able to replicate what the Prince had shown Altair on his way to the temple. The new skill allowed him to traverse distances in a single jump that he would have otherwise have missed or had to take a roundabout way to get to the other side. After several more successful attempts, Desmond walked back into the room with the Animus, but it appeared that Rebecca could not determine the reason for the desynchronization. Even when trying to resynchronize with Altair at that moment or afterwards there was no success. So the team moved on to the next subject of interest, all assuming that Altair's story had ended.

It was several months of trudging through Ezio's memories that they again found a mention of the place in which the last memory of Altair ended. The source of the information was in a rumor that had once again spread through the Mediterranean. This rumor quickly reached the ears of the network of thieves and assassins that were under Ezio's control. Within days Ezio was sailing his way towards the Ottoman Empire in which these old lands were contained. The journey took several months to complete, but at the end Ezio found himself at the same plateau that his ancestor had found several hundred years before while searching for the same elusive artifact. He had read records of the disappearance of Altair after his journey to this place, but he still did not know what to expect.

(I'm going to try to make this short so that I ensure that I complete it and don't abandon it. So I'm sorry if things seem rushed.)

“And I’m beginning to think it means more to you than our relationship, Maria. Look, I know how much this means to you but we haven’t seen each other in more than three weeks—”

“If you’re concerned about the state of our relationship, I applaud you for finally caring. But seriously, Altair, how do you think I felt when you spent all that time with Malik for your stupid thesis--”

“It was not stupid. We graduated with honors because of that damned paper.”

“Okay but you were at his place for an entire month and then some—”

“You were with Rebecca and Lucy, then, too, getting drunk as hell since you three already finished your theses. We probably would’ve finished sooner if you hadn’t kept calling us, night after night, and Lucy kept looking for Desmond. You were all sex deprived girls and it was insane.”

“Yes, Altair, we were. We went for a month without sex. Oh, the terror. Did it ever factor in that we probably just missed you?”

“Not really, because the moment I stepped into your apartment after submitting the paper, I quite vividly recall you giving me the best blowjob ever.”

“Basically you’re saying that our relationship is about sex—”

“Really good sex, if it makes you feel any better—”

“It doesn’t. Listen, Altair, this conversation isn’t over. Once Rebecca and I finish—”

“Right, cause it’s totally going to finish soon.”

“Ugh, whatever, you dickhead. Talk to you later.”

Malik looked up from the kitchen counter as Altair replaced the telephone on its receiver. Squeezing mayonnaise on a sausage-covered slice of bread, he smirked.

“Ha, Maria’s totally cockblocking you.”

Altair quickly crumpled up a piece of paper next to the telephone, promptly throwing it at Malik who blocked it with his arm-stump.

“You’re getting slow, dartboard master.”

“Shut up.”

“No can do,” he said, slapping another slice of bread on top of the ham-and-mayo filling. “I have to chew this baby up. I’m fucking hungry.”

“Well I hope you never forget that cum resembles mayo, you retard.”

“Hey, don’t take out your sexual frustration on me. I haven’t boned Rebecca since last month. Can’t really bring myself to jack off, it just feels wrong.”

“Nice to know.”

A silence passed between the two as Malik brought the sandwich to his lips and bit off a chunk, chewing slowly. He swallowed after some time, and realized all this while that Altair was watching him.

“What do you want?”

“Its—nothing. Desmond invited me to a party later, said that Shaun’s finally coming out of the library to go. Wanna come with me?”

Malik flicked through his imaginary planner: he had nothing to do tonight (or for the next two months, for that matter). “Sure,” he said, trying not to sound like he was desperate for a chance to go out.

“Alright,” he said, checking his watch. “It’s four now, party starts at eight. I'll pick some stuff up from Ezio."

"See you at ten, Altair."
