Re: Connor Meets his Aunt, Jenny Kenway
(Anonymous) 2013-07-08 05:41 am (UTC)(link)Jenny was eventually sold to be a concubine at Topkapı Palace in the Istanbul. When she's in her mid-fortes, she's sent to Damascus to work under the governor as a servant/slave since she's too old to continue being a concubine. In 1757, Haytham and his best friend, Jim Holden, the same guy who drives Haytham to and from the opera in the first chapter of AC3 (http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Jim_Holden), rescue her from Damascus. However, Jim sacrifices himself so that Haytham and Jenny can escape. Getting caught, the Ottomans turn Jim into a eunuch. A few months later, Haytham and Jenny are able to rescue Jim from an old monastery in Egypt. Seeing that Jim has been castrated and tortured, Haytham goes batshit crazy, rescues Jim, kills all the monks and then burns to the place to the ground. Jenny is there and witnesses everything.
Haytham then finds out that he beloved Grandmaster of the Templars and the guy who trained him, Reginald Birch, orchestrated Jenny's initial kidnapping and the death of his father, Edward Kenway. So he, Jim and Jenny assault Birch's chateau in France. Jenny kills Birch after Haytham is nearly mortally injured. Haytham, Jim and Jenny then stay in the chateau while Haytham recovers for some months. After Haytham's recovery, Jim kills himself due to suffering from serious emotional trauma. Haytham and Jenny then return to England and Jenny moves back into her old home in Queen Anne's Square, where she grew up with Haytham and the rest of her family. Jenny and Haytham's wiki entries say, She and Haytham stayed in touch, but their correspondence was distant since neither of them knew each other very well.
I just find it interesting that despite the fact that Jenny was his half-sister, is 12 years older and she obviously doesn't know him too well (I assume due to the age difference), Haytham still goes to great lengths to rescue her down and corresponds with her afterwards. Haytham's a lot of unsavory things, but obviously, he loved his sister and/or had some serious loyalty to her. Not to mention, she'd have to be a serious badass to survive her kidnapping and for Haytham to enlist her to help rescue Jim and then kill Reginald Birth. I'd love to see how that dynamic plays out in her potential relationship with Connor. Especially assuming she was in the process of being trained to be a Assassin by Edward Kenway before he was killed and she was kidnapped. Most especially if she knew her own brother was a Templar. Otherwise, how her personality is up to you, writer!anon.
Re: Connor Meets his Aunt, Jenny Kenway
(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 07:12 am (UTC)(link)The reason for the age gap between Jenny and Haytham is that she is from Edward's FIRST marriage, and Haytham is from the second.
Jenny knew about the Assassins and Templars, though Edward refused to train her. She was actually pretty angry at Edward for that, and jealous and cold towards Haytham because he got to learn the art of fighting while she had to just sit there and look pretty. Jenny didn't hate Haytham though--she had a tendency to call him "Squirt" when they were young, which just made me go squee.
I also think Edward knew Birch was a Templar all along. I don't think the book actually came out and said as much, but that's the impression I got. Edward was trying to stop the Assassin/Templar fighting. He thought Birch wanted the same thing, so he kind of pushed for a marriage between Birch and Jenny. Which was another reason Jenny was angry at Edward.
Birch never wanted peace though. He was plotting and planning to kill Edward the whole time because he wanted Edward's book about Those Who Came Before and all the stuff they left behind.
When Birch had Edward killed and sold Jenny into slavery, he blamed it all on the Assassins. Haytham believed him and vowed to make everything right again. He was only 10, so he didn't have a clue. He relied on Birch for everything, and trusted him when he said he would help Haytham find his father's killers and track down Jenny.
Birch strung him along for years and years about finding clues to Jenny's whereabouts. The only reason Haytham ever found her is because he started disagreeing with Birch's "methods" in general. He went behind Birch's back and got Jim Holden to do some digging where Birch claimed the trail had gone cold.
As for Jenny's character... She's fiesty--she's totally pissed that Haytham is a Templar, and she not only wants to kill Birch, she wants to cut off his junk and feed it to him. XD
Forsaken is awesome and heartbreaking. You watch as Haytham goes from a carefree little boy, to a cold-hearted teen hell bent on revenge, to a wise, young man with a good heart who is hell bent on changing the world, to a bitter old man who is tired of being alive, to a bitter old man who has a spark of hope when he meets his son, and then to an even more bitter, hateful old man who has nothing left to live for.
Re: Connor Meets his Aunt, Jenny Kenway
(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)So after Edward was killed and Jenny was kidnapped (and Haytham made his first kill at age 10, and his mother went from coddling him to hating him after seeing him kill a dude who was about to kill her), Birch was all, "Hey Haytham, let me train you so we can go beat up those guys who killed your dad and kidnapped your sister, my fiancee!" But Haytham's first priority was avenging his dad, whom he loved unconditionally. So he didn't search as hard for his sister as he maybe could have. And then he wound up going to the colonies, doing all the stuff he does in the game, and one morning he's hanging out in his Love Shack (Love Tent, I guess) while Ziio gets them breakfast, when Charles Lee shows up with the message that Holden found out where Jenny is. Charles Lee also pisses off Ziio, who throws Haytham out of the tent, and then presumably returns to her village to continue gestating.
Oh, btw, Haytham and Jenny find Holden after only about a week, I think, so he's still very very sore, and I'm sure riding a horse is not his favorite thing to do for a while.
Jenny is pretty bitter about how she and Haytham have turned out, and one night she's chugging wine and she tells him that he's only good at killing and she's only good at serving men, and this is what they were trained to do from childhood, so even though they've both wound up in exactly the opposite place from what their parents wanted, they're stuck doing exactly what they were trained to do.
But she's a little happier after she kills Birch.
And Haytham wasn't injured until after Birch's death. He spares the lives of some of Birch's captives, whom he had captured several years ago, and hands one of them a sword to defend himself when he leaves, and the guy stabs him in pretty much exactly the same place the piece of wood stabs Connor in his fight with Lee. Then Haytham, of course, gets a raging infection, and once he starts to recover, Holden can't stand with being a eunuch anymore, and hangs himself.
Jenny returns to rebuild the family home (which was burned the night she was captured and Edward was killed) and boss everyone around, and Haytham moves to Virginia to grow tobacco and be depressed until the 1770s when he starts meddling in Boston and NY again.
Re: Connor Meets his Aunt, Jenny Kenway
(Anonymous) 2013-10-20 11:00 am (UTC)(link)Haytham kept on arguing with Reginald as Haytham began to suspect Reginald, Reginald had said "I merely request that you turn your stare on your own failings before you start shining light on mine"
which had meant that Reginald wanted Haytham to look at his own failures rather than Reginald's or the Templar Order's. according to me BULLSHIT Reginald birch did it and we all know that.
But I am curious to know how jenny had survived 22 years
