“Hey, If I said you had a nice body, would you hold it against me?”

Mary looked up with an expression of utter bewilderment at the words just spoken to her. However, instead of the drunken idiot or even a sleazy dancer she expected, it was the bartender she had been practically drooling over since she arrived. Her face changed from one of bafflement, to one of shock before finally turning away out of a mixture of shame and embarrassment. As for the bartender, she took great mirth in the situation, laughing loudly which made Mary's cheeks turn an even darker shade of red.

“I...uh...um...well you...um...”, she stuttered, grasping for words that were not there.

The bartender, grinning, extended her hand as she set down the mug of rum for Mary.

“The names Anne, whats yours?”

“ Jam...I mean Ma.. uh.. Mary.”

“Alright then, will that be all?”, Anne said through a smile.

“Yea.”

“Ok then, see ya around, Mary.”, she said, as if she was trying out her name and getting used to the sound of it. “Nice name.”, she added.

Mary reached for the mug and took a large swig from it. She watched the bartender leave, and allowed herself to grin dumbly from behind the rim of the mug. She knew that she was definitely coming back tomorrow.

So, about the same time as the day before, Mary arrived at the bar, keeping her eyes peeled for the the bartender who was there yesterday. She spotted her somewhat quickly, for Mary swore as soon as she had laid eyes on her that she might never forget her face. Anne saw her too, after a bit of time, and made her way over to her table. She opened her mouth to speak, but was cut off by Mary.

“Hey, do you like water?”, she said, hoping that her voice sounded normal.

“Um, yes?”, Anne replied, caught off guard by the oddness of the question.

“Well then, you already like about seventy-two percent of me”, Mary said, pleased with herself for coming up with that one.

They looked into each others eyes for a minute before laughing so loudly that it made even some of the more inebriated sailors glare at them. Anne sat down with Mary for a moment, and, clearing tears out of her eyes, passed her the bottle of rum she was holding. While Mary settled down and took a drink, Anne spoke to her.

“If you would ever like to stop by my place, all you have to do is ask.”, she said with a wink.

​ Mary had to clap a hand over her mouth to keep from spitting rum everywhere.

Not OP but liked it nonetheless.

Mary's akward sense of humor was too cute and I do hope she will go to Anne's place...hehehe...
