My heart has shattered for Haytham about a hundred times already. (And for Ziio, and Connor, and Jenny, and even a little for Edward although he could use a few kicks in the face. Because the Kenway family is so perfectly fucked-up tragic.)

(Especially now that I've finally bought ToKW as a Consolation-For-Not-Having-a-Girlfriend-Anymore present. I've just made it through the first sky journey, and I have some really, really strong headcanons for exactly how this world differed from the regular one even before Washington picked up the Apple. Connor still doesn't get to be a big brother though. I has a sad about that.)

I only saw the first 3 seasons or so of Supernatural, but I agree. Except I don't think Connor would have the same tastes in music. And also, I think Connor's half decided he has to protect his father now, although he's not sure what from and he doesn't want to be sure.

Haytham doesn't want your heart to shatter for him! He's a tough sonofabitch and he doesn't have EMOTIONS and that kind of thing. He'd only admit to something horrible from his past to someone who already knew about it. He just freezes up instead when things remind him of it. Even if Ziio had kept him around, they could have been married 20 years and he still wouldn't have told her, because most of the time he's made himself not remember it.

Jenny figured it out, but part of the distance between them is that she wishes she didn't know, because she blames herself for not protecting her little brother better somehow. In her eyes, what happened to her is only half as bad as what happened to him, because he was so young and it's warped him a lot more than her. And she can't ask for his forgiveness because she knows he won't let himself remember. (I didn't say Kenways made sense, even inside their brains. They don't have to make sense to shatter hearts.)

Desmond only knows it because he doesn't have the filters on the memories he gets that his ancestors originally had. So he can't repress or suppress them when they show up in his brain, and he also can't edit them like he can with his own (like everyone always does with their memories). That's part of why the Bleeding Effect is so bad, because memories can't be lessened in strength. It's like having several people's worth of PTSD, because every single time Desmond remembers, say, Ezio's family being killed, it hurts 100% as bad as it did when Ezio was actually seeing it. And every single time he thinks about Ziio, he sees her burning to death as if it were happening all over again.

I think Desmond is really, really tired of people's parents getting killed horribly right in front of them.
