Re: Haytham/Connor - Listening to Eagles

"Glad you're happy!"!Anon here, hahaha, from the animal-petting Haytham + Connor pre-slash/gen fill... while this isn't a fill of this prompt, I actually came up with some paragraphs that were inspired by this prompt, as per some of the 'headcanon' comments below. If you don't mind, then here's the link (admittedly I came up with my own criticisms of it after posting):

OP here. That's wicked. :)

The "eagles" fill Author!Anon is here!

Anything in particular from that story that you took particular interest in or have constructive criticism for? Any questions that you might have about specific points in the story that you might want clarification/explanation on? :)

Personally I liked how you had it that the Eagle basically turned its back on Haytham in the end. Not sure if it was what you intended, but to ME it seemed that because he continued to turn his back on the Assassins that the Eagle finally went "to hell with it. Time to meet your fate."

Author!Anon is happy to answer!

Not quite -- or rather, not wholly -- what I intended, but certainly not an interpretation I disagree with. :) The main plot hole I'd have seen in my own story would have been why the Eagle gave Haytham decades of chances only for "throw Charles Lee to safety" to have been the final straw! (See the next paragraph for a possible explanation.)

Still, I really like your interpretation of it as the Eagle finally refusing to abet Haytham as a Templar Grand Master, and in fact I've come to think of it as the Eagle refusing to enable Haytham, due to what I said about Haytham having more recently come to rely on -- and, by this story expect/hope/wait for -- the Eagle's cry. Now I'm wondering if in fact the Eagle had a secret, final test for Haytham: namely, whether Haytham would take a true Leap of Faith, without the Eagle's cry to (by its past confirming context) undermine the "faith" part!

Alternately, might I ask what you thought of the specifics of the Eagle's dismissal/refusal of Haytham? Because I really thought I was driving it in -- evidently I didn't -- that the Eagle was digging in at more than just Haytham alone... I mean, when the Eagle's mocking Haytham by saying that Connor "rose above his station" and specifies that by "station" it means "being a Kenway"...

(For what it's worth, while the Eagle refused to cry for Haytham anymore, the idea behind the ending was that Haytham could have overheard the Eagle's talking to Connor had Haytham not been talking over them both with his monologue from the game.)

Author!Anon late thought goes here

If you like, consider the title "Commence the Haythampain!"
