Re: Ghosts of Lives Past [2/9]
(Anonymous) 2011-02-07 07:46 am (UTC)(link)Desmond eventually found a ladder in a small back alley that led to the roofs. Only wanting to expand his horizons, he instantly crawled up it. With grace and ease he most certainly wasn't born with, he was now traveling across the buildings. He felt a grand rush from his motions. It was the thrill of doing something totally illegal on top of the grand freedom it gave him.
Just as he was starting to think his night was perfect, he stumbled off of one roof into the wide open balcony of another building.
The soft thud of his landing was over shadowed by a small shriek and a clatter.
"Dio mio! Un ladro stupida caduta in casa mia!" A deeply annoyed voice sounded close to Desmond's ear.
The American jerked and pulled himself to his feet in seconds. His side throbbed angrily. He had to pause to lean against the railing. That pause allowed him to look at just whose patio he had disturbed.
Before him a young, blond man with sharp almost elvish features was sitting amongst a pile of paints, brushes and canvases. His blue eyes were narrowed and angry. He was glowering up at Desmond. Had he been a burglar or assassin, for that matter, the man's expression most likely wouldn't have been any different. Actually, if he had to guess, he might look even more furious.
"Chi sei tu? Cosa stai facendo?" The man snapped at him from his position on the floor.
Desmond lifted his hands. "I'm sorry," he said, quickly. He glanced over his shoulder. "I was walking and..." He stopped and shook his head. This man probably didn't understand a word of what he was saying.
His gaze was yanked back to the floor and the man stood up as well. He was skinny and without a lot of muscle, but he held himself with a confidence that said he could, most certainly, kick asses to high heaven and back.
"You speak English?" The man said, with a slight catch to his words.
Desmond nodded quickly.
The blond arched an eyebrow. "Are you lost?" He asked.
Re: Ghosts of Lives Past [3/9]
(Anonymous) 2011-02-07 07:47 am (UTC)(link)"On the roofs?" The man asked. He sighed and ran a hand through his chin length blond hair.
That motion made Desmond's thoughts pull to a halt. He recognized that action. All at once, a feeling of familiarity slammed into his chest. Ezio, whom he had shoved to the back of his mind, suddenly came flooding forward. He blinked and his eyes widened.
"There's no way," he mumbled.
First New York and now Monteriggioni? There was no way. With that defiance in mind, Desmond ignored any and all possibility until he had more evidence.
"Hm? I'm sorry?" The man spoke up. He was in the process of putting his art supplies back into order.
"Uhm, this might be strange," Desmond started, looking very awkward. "But, what is your name?"
The man stared at him. Slowly, he set his supplies down neatly. He rested his hands on his hips and only continued to stare. "You ask my name? I should be calling the polizei on you," he sighed. "But, it is Cirino. Can I ask for yours, assassino?" He asked, a smirk playing about his lips.
"Desmond," he replied instantly.
Cirino nose wrinkled at that. He didn't seem to enjoy the name. "You are an American?" He asked. It seemed the man had quickly gotten over Desmond's sudden appearance. Instead, he only seemed curious. A vague interest in just who this foreigner was.
"Yea," Desmond replied. He shifted off of the railing. His side protested but he ignored it. If his ancestor could fall over a hundred feet into a hay stack, he could fall six into a balcony.
"Why are you here?"
"I fell."
Cirino blinked owlishly at him. "No, I meant here, as in Monteriggioni," he chuckled softly.
"Oh. Well, I'm visiting the Villa."
Re: Ghosts of Lives Past [4/9]
(Anonymous) 2011-02-07 07:48 am (UTC)(link)"Yea, that one," Desmond sighed, not at all happy to admit it.
"How? It is closed off," Cirino said. "I've tried to get in countlessly. But never am able to." His voice took on a tone of awe that seemed so familiar to Desmond.
Desmond smirked. "It belongs to my family."
Cirino looked floor for a second time. "Your family? You are an Auditore?"
The name from the blond man's lips made something stir in his gut. It made Ezio go bat-shit insane in the back of his head. And it made it seem like an eternity was resting on this single moment.
Desmond nodded again.
"How exciting," Cirino smiled at him. He had clapped his hands slightly. The motion made him pause and look at his own hands like he had never done it before. He looked back at Desmond with a strange expression. It was like he was seeing the man before him in a whole new light. For a long moment he was silent, then he shook himself. "Are you hurt?" He asked, voice disjointed and confused.
Desmond blinked. He hadn't seen an expression like that since New York. It made his heart pound. Still refusing to believe it, he shook his head at the question and at his thoughts.
"But you fell. Come, I will get you something to drink. You may rest while you wait."
Cirino turned and disappeared into the dark room beyond.
Desmond hesitated. He wasn't sure how Italian custom worked but he was pretty sure it wasn't normal to invite so-called assassin's inside at odd hours of the night. Still, he didn't want to be rude. So, he shrugged and followed the other male inside.
Minutes later, Desmond found himself in the middle of an exceedingly mess--what he assumed to be--living room. The space had a couch and coffee table in the center, but almost every surface was covered in paints, brushes, paper, models of all kinds and books of almost every subject matter. What caught his eye first was the back wall, which was to the right of the balcony door.
Re: Ghosts of Lives Past [5/9]
(Anonymous) 2011-02-07 07:49 am (UTC)(link)Cirino returned to the room. He slipped through an arch way that, presumably, led to the kitchen.
"Ah, sorry for the mess," he said awkwardly, nodding at the space around them. "I don't get many guests."
Desmond smiled, for what felt like the first time in a long time. "I can tell. Need help?" He moved across the room to take the laden tray from Cirino's arms.
"Oh, non, non, you don't have to. You are a guest." The man fretted until Desmond set the tray on the only empty space he could find, which turned out to be the floor. "Forgive me," he apologized again.
Desmond shook his head. "It's alright. You're an artist. You're allowed to do this sort of thing."
Cirino looked embarrassed as he lifted a cup from the tray and handed it to Desmond. "It is Coke. You Americans like it, yes?"
Desmond accepted the cup. "Yea, we do." He took a sip and almost choked. "Shit, that's sweet."
Cirino frowned at him. "It is not like what you have at home?" He asked, looking worried.
"No, it's totally different," he said. "It's ten times sweeter."
"Well, Europeans are sweeter than Americans, I think," Cirino smiled slyly at him.
Desmond rolled his eyes as he took another sip of the liquid. He looked back to the da Vinci sketch. "You like da Vinci?" He asked.
Cirino nodded quickly. "Very much so. I don't know why but his pieces, how do you say, speak to me?" He shrugged and lifted his own glass from the tray. Standing back up, he looked at the sketch thoughtfully. "It is strange because there are many other artists that I enjoy, but Maestro da Vinci is the only one that I cannot stop thinking about."
Re: Ghosts of Lives Past [6/9]
(Anonymous) 2011-02-07 07:49 am (UTC)(link)"Oh? Well, Maestro da Vinci was a genius," Cirino said, swallowing his drink.
"Sì, sei un genio, Leonardo." Unabidden, the Italian voice feel from his lips. His eyes widened and his shoulders tensed. Of course, he knew it was only a matter of time before Ezio had finally fought his way to the surface. He just didn't think it would be this soon.
Next to him Cirino went completely still. Swallowing thickly, he turned to look at the other man.
Cirino was staring at the design. His expression was strange again, like his thoughts were at war with each other.
"Non è bello dire cose che non sono vere, Ezio," he said finally, his voice dropping slightly and sounding deeply amused. It was the sort of amusement that came from a life time of friendship, possibly more than that.
Cirino frowned and held a hand to his forehead. His eyes squeezed shut and he shivered for a minute. "Ah, I'm sorry. I don't know what that was," he said, haltingly.
Desmond stepped closer to him. "Uhm, Cirino," he started slowly. "Do you know the name, Ezio."
Cirnio's head whipped around to stare at Desmond with wide eyes. His hand tightened around his glass. "Ezio?" He breathed, the name carrying more weight than it should. "Ezio..." He repeated.
Desmond nodded, his jaw clenched. "Ezio Auditore..."
"Da firenze," Cirino finished, looking shocked that he knew. "Ho dipinto per sua madre, Maria." He closed his eyes for a long moment. When he reopened them, they told a completely different story. It was like an entirely different man was looking back at him now. "Ezio. It isn't kind to put so much strain on this young man."
Desmond almost gasped. He knew that Cirnio had spoken Italian but he had understood every word. Suddenly, his head throbbed and he had to clutch his head to make it stop. When it passed, he was pretty sure that Ezio had taken total hold.
"I only wanted to see you, Leonardo," he said, releasing his head and looking up.
Cirino's head tilted and he smiled sweetly. "But you have no more Codex pages. That is all you ever see me for," he teased.
Re: Ghosts of Lives Past [7/9]
(Anonymous) 2011-02-07 07:50 am (UTC)(link)Cirino's smile widened and he nodded sagely. "You can always see me, if you only seek me out. I've waited for you this long and I will wait until the end of all life times to see you again."
"Leonardo, I can't wait that long," he replied.
"Then stop sitting around and find me. Be safe, Ezio," he sighed. Cirino's eyes squeezed shut again.
Desmond shook his head.
As soon as the two men refocused on each other, neither had anything to say.
"I'm sorry, man," Desmond whispered, refusing to meet Cirino's eyes. "That's only happened once before."
Cirino shook his head, his hand held to his temple. "Non, non. It is okay. It's happened before. Although, that was when I was talking to a man who called himself La Volpe." The artist sighed. He shook his head and smiled weakly at Desmond. "Can you explain it?" He laughed awkwardly, like he didn't expect an answer.
"Yes." The laugh stopped instantly. "Yes, I can." Desmond frowned and quickly finished his drink. He had this conversation before, hopefully, it would go over better. "Would it be weird if I told you that you might be a descendent of Leonardo da Vinci?"
"How? Maestro da Vinci was a known homosexual," Cirnio said, suspision coloring his voice.
Desmond shrugged. He tried to remember everything Shaun had told him about the man. "Supposedly, he had, uhm, well, relations, with Isabella d'Este," he said.
Cirino's eyes widened and he gasped. "She is one of my ancestors! She is one of my grandmothers on my father's side," he said, leaning down to set his glass on the messy table. "If that is true, then what happened?" He asked, straightening up.
"Well, I am the descendent of Ezio Auditore. He was an assassin of an age old brotherhood. He worked against the Templars, specifically Cesare Borgia." He couldn't help the snicker at Cirnio's shocked expression. "Yea, the very same. And Leonardo da Vinci was constantly helping him to thwart the Borgia's plans." He paused to point at the flying machine sketch. "He made that and Ezio flew it."
Re: Ghosts of Lives Past [8/9]
(Anonymous) 2011-02-07 07:51 am (UTC)(link)"Hot air," Desmond said, instantly.
"Genio!" Cirino cheered, throwing a hand in the air. "I can't believe I never thought of that!" He smiled at Desmond and was about to continue when he recieved a look that hadn't been seen in nearly six hundred years. "Mi dispace. Continue."
"I will. Anyway, the Templars are still around and so are the Assassins. I'm one of them and that's why I'm here. I'm trying to find something called a Piece of Eden and stop them." He stopped and watched Cirino.
"You are saying, I am of Maestro da Vinci's bloodline?" He asked and when Desmond nodded, he continued. "Then, if I truly am and he worked with Messer Ezio Auditore, then I will do the same. I will help this Brotherhood." He smiled widely at Desmond. "I will make my grandfather proud."
"Great-great-great-great-great grandfather," Desmond corrected.
Cirino shook his head, still smiled. "As you American's say, whatever."
Desmond returned the smile. "I'm sure that Maestro Ezio and Leonardo would be more than happy to know that you will help."
Cirino nodded. "Then, Messer Desmond, I suggest you get back to your duties. I have a lot of research to do. Come back if you have need of anything else. I will do everything to help you."
Desmond grinned broadly at him. "Buonanotte, Leonardo," he intoned, slipping into a very familiar smooth voice.
That same centuries old smile returned to Cirino's face. "Buonanotte, Ezio."
Re: Ghosts of Lives Past [9/9]
(Anonymous) 2011-02-07 07:51 am (UTC)(link)"Yes," he breathed to himself as he took off back to Monteriggioni.
Centuries of discontent had been soothed. Altair had seen his hawk. Ezio had spoken with his genius. Both of them were more than willing to wait for a little while longer. Their peace would be granted when this was over and they all felt, all three, that the ending would be soon. Desmond breathed a sigh of relief. Things seemed to be looking up.
Now, if only Shaun didn't steal any more yogurt, then things would, truly be, perfect.
