Anon has just found the Short Change Heroes fill, and has taken a sudden liking to Hickey. While I love the thought of fem!Connor, it got me thinking, what if Hickey was a woman instead of a man?

Would she have had a relationship with Johnson/Charles? they'd make such a snarky, cute couple hehe Would she still be as big of a drunkard? Would she forever keep the mentality of a horny teenager? I imagine fem!Hickey would be feminine in a scruffy-but-slutty cheap whore kind of way.
You know, dirty frilly skirt, shirt and corset permanently half-undone showing more of her generous bosom than is in any way proper, long hair that tries to escape its ties and explore the frontier by itself, plus flintlocks in her petticoats and a a mug of beer in her hand of course (or possibly whatever the 18th century idea of a "girly drink"). i feel like there's so much sexual tension between these 2, and all those innuendos Hope drops ("you have more endurance than i expected, Shay") doesn't help!

so if any kind and willing anon!writer can rewrite that certain scene in rogue so Hope and Shay stay inside the warehouse to... hash things out, it'd be much appreciated! (it's sequence 6, memory 2, if you need the exact part ;3)

Then again maybe not, because as soon as some fans complained about Connor being boring they dropped him like a hot iron, nevermind that he's easily one of the most complex characters in the series. And now Ubi is selling us a game full of really dumb glitches while going on about how state of the art it is, with a protagonist that's more or less Ezio 2.0 right down to the hairstyle.

"Ezio 2.0" was THE first thing I noticed about Arno without the hood... however, Darby McDevitt admitted on Twitter that although AC3 had been the highest-selling AC game, the 'universal' praise that supposedly only Ezio got what was got him three games to everyone else's one-and-done. (Personally, I wonder if him being the only 'straight white male' player Assassin until Edward had anything to do with that... and I'm actually still annoyed that there was never a playable Chinese male Assassin.)

The glitches are funny because of how frequently visual they've been, but a more fundamental problem for me with Unity is the story:
#1: Arno: All the "Ezio 2.0" look, none of the "Ezio 1.0" charm, and characterization-wise... let's just say that there's a good fucking reason he ended up as he did.
#2: Both of this year's AC games basically concluded with the Templars going "neener neener i win lol"... problem is, according to Ubisoft they were well and completely right (if not morally). More broadly speaking though, Ubisoft seems to really, really prefer telling stories about Templars than Assassins... and possibly have since AC3 (if one chooses to read the difference in Connor and Haytham's writing that way).

Haha, glad to know I was not the only one who had that thought about Arno. Yeah, his personality and story are different, but not exactly in a good way? Not that I hate him or anything, but let's say that sometimes it sure seems like the writers do.

And yes, it kind of feels like they've been shoving a lot of Templar philosophy down our throats ever since Haytham. In a way it's interesting to see both sides and let the Templars make their point too, but for me they're overdoing it. Then again, saying the Templar ideology doesn't go so well with my own RL beliefs would be an understatement, so maybe it's just me.

I love Ezio as much as everyone else, but yes, I think him being this eurocentric straight white male character is a huge part of the reason why he got three games, especially when compared to the other two protagonists of the numbered games. There's Altair, a Syrian muslim, and I don't think I need to get started on islamophobia and how that might play into not wanting to revisit him. And then there's Connor/Ratonhnhaké:ton, who might technically be Metis but fully identifies as Mohawk, and not only is his in-game story the most depressing one, they also have to rub salt in the wounds of his fans by casually dropping that his (as white as possible, of course) wife and children left him, and his death was lonely and 'a mess', whatever that means. Sure I'm apparently free to reject that as Abstergo propaganda or whatever, but still. They took a story about an indigenous character, sadly a rarity in itself already, and made it almost exclusively about defeat and loss. The symbol and source of his happiness, the Homestead he tried to protect so fiercely, eventually vanishes as well, at a time that likely happens before his death, and I don't even want to know how and why anymore. What message do they think that sends? Yeah, his strength and heroic appeal is supposed to come from how he never loses hope despite all of it, but. I don't even know. His idealism touched ME, so I wish it could have touched the world around him as well, no matter how naive that is?
...and there I went on a rant again because I'm still not over AC III. I apologize, fellow anons.

I'd have loved more Chinese Assassins too, including male ones, but on a whole I think Ubi could do with more playable female characters and loved Shao Jun. But more Asian cultures in general would be great, the history and politics are so complex they could get infinite amounts of AC games out of it.

Desmond's computer-ghost (à la Clay), who is seriously cheesed off at Ubisoft for various things (never being mentioned at all in game trailers or promos or on the box art, not being made into an action figure, getting his face changed every fucking game, oh and of course the whole "yeah we're training you to be a badass Assassin but oops then you die from some precursor shit" deal) goes and fucks with their computers and is revealed to be the cause of the glitches affecting every new game they put out.

Finally someone who agrees with me about 19th century Britain as "overrepresented"... and "especially if we get a male main playable of privilege"? That plus "British is trendy" will probably make Ubisoft MORE likely to go with such a player character, especially because "of privilege" screams Ezio to them, and considering how hard they tried to jam Arno into that mold without the personality which made Ezio actually liked... :/

I'd call Lucasfilm's case a mix of reboot and canonicity policy change, because instead of an EU they're going for a single canon level, no "single most canon", so for example Rebels and its prequel novel happened "as much" as the original movies did.

Unrequited Shay/Ziio and Achilles: Turns Out That Shay Inadvertently Helped the Assassins Win

So it turns out that Shay and Ziio are the same age, both born in 1731. From the way Ziio casually pops up at the Green Dragon before she and Haytham take out Braddock, she's familiar with the rest of the Templars (though she didn’t know they were Templars at the time). So what if Shay had a thing for her as well? While he finally accepts she's only into Haytham, his crush moves into a frienship/one-sided longing fo4 her, even after she breaks up with Haytham. In fact Haytham has Shay look out for her. And it's Shay who informs Haytham of her death and Connor's existence (which Ziio made Shay swear to keep a secret during her lifetime) once Haytham returns to the colonies in 1775, after rescuing Jenny.

So when Shay finds out Ziio is pregnant and having difficulty with the pregnancy, he sends her to Achilles (it's canon that Achilles and Ziio knew each other, as Achilles mentions it in passing to Connor). Though because Shay is still guilty over his betrayal of the Assassins, he makes Ziio swear to never mention him to Achilles. Basically, Shay is messy, with an unrequited love of Ziio that extends to protecting Connor, guilt from betraying the Assassins and a wariness of Haytham since he blames him for the break-up. Ironically, it's Shay's concealment of Connor and introduction of Ziio to Achilles that brings down the Templars; if he would have revealed Connor to Haytham and never put Ziio in Achilles' path, Haytham would have likely found Connor sooner and raised him as a Templar, versus Achilles raising him as an Assassin who ends up decimating the Templars.

So Haytham permanently crippled Achilles in the Artic Precursor site and made him give up being an assassin, which adds insult to injury that Shay betrayed him and the rest of the assassins. So what if Achilles' motivations for taking on Connor were driven by revenge? After all, what better way to get back at Haytham than to turn his own son against him and use Connor to utterly decimate the Templars? Basically, I want Dark!Achilles reveling in turning Connor against his father and using the boy to carry out his vengeance. Whether or not Connor is aware that he's being used and his reaction to finding out/realizing it is up to you.

I'd say this is not a "what if", but pretty much canon of AC3... Revenge may not have been the entire reason, but definitely one of deciding factors for Achilles to take on Connor.

Ive no idea how it got into my head but it did and now it wont leave. Altaïr, when not doing something that requires both hands, always has a fruit or snack that hes munching on. Haytham carefully lays his infant son down on the changing table, eases the soft blue sweatpants down, and starts unsnapping the diaper. Connor lets out a quiet sound that stills Haytham’s hands and makes a lump lodge in his throat.

Did Connor just… giggle?

Haytham gently (so gently, because Connor was so tiny and delicate) wriggles his fingers along Connor’s sides.

Connor giggle-squeals again, then wriggles and grins up at Haytham.

Haytham grins back, quickly changes the diaper, and proceeds to try and find every single ticklish spot Connor has.

Which is why, twenty minutes later, Ziio finds Haytham and their son on the floor. Connor is on his back, belly-laughing so hard he’s snorting, and Haytham is hovering over him, blowing raspberries on his stomach.

Ziio sighs and can’t find it in herself to be irritated. “I was wondering what was taking so long. Dinner’s ready.”

Haytham clears his throat, sits up, and tries to look dignified. Which is hard when you’ve blown so many raspberries on a baby belly that you’ve drooled on yourself. “Yes, sorry, we got a little distracted.”

“Mm?” Ziio raises one brow, folds her arms, and leans against the doorway.

“He started—laughing,” Haytham tries to explain. “I was just—trying to find out where he was ticklish.”

“Ah,” is Ziio’s only response.

Haytham squirms a bit under her gaze. “He likes when you blow raspberries on his belly.”

“I see.” Ziio comes further into the room and kneels down so she’s across from Haytham, with Connor between them.

Connor squirms, much like his father just had, and looks between them with a wide smile.

“He likes raspberries on his feet too,” Ziio supplies helpfully, playfully snatching up one of Connor’s feet and blowing a soft ‘thbbblllt’ to the bottom of it.

Connor grins and giggles quietly, then looks at Haytham.

“Oh my, it seems he has two feet.” Haytham catches the other, flailing leg. “One for each of us.”

And with that, Haytham and Ziio playfully attack two tiny baby feet with kisses and raspberries, much to Connor’s shrieking, giggling, delight.
